Tonight is the night!!! Just got the FedEX notification that my case has been delivered. Getting ready to wipe my 4S and send it back to Verizon... Tomorrow, I'll be bringing the PLUS outside for it's first debut. Good thing it will be all bundled up, it's COLD out there!!! :D

No problem like that with me,maybe you got a bad one. I'm very happy with mine. I can't even make it creak.

I think its more that since the glass is curved at the edges and the screen protector is straight and not attached to the glass screen, there is a slight gap at the edges so when you push in there is some noise (the screen protector hitting the glass screen). It's inevitable. There is decreased screen sensitivity there as well, it's kinda annoying.

Yeah, I've NEVER used the attached screen protector of the Defender. That's the first thing I do when I remove it from the packaging, is remove that pesky piece of plastic. ZAGG HDX FTW!!

Working on getting the screen protector and all the glue off. MAJOR pain in the butt... Worse than any other Defender I've had. Almost done! More pics and my initial thoughts to follow.

Yeah I might just have to get the white shell for my silver 6+ will probably look better than the black with the white front.

Lol i dnt understand whats the point of paying $70 dlls for a case when you have to work hard to modified it to get it to work correctly, but oh well to each their own.

Same reason you modify default settings on your $700 smart phone... Unless you don't of course?

For me, this is the premier solution. Seems to make perfect sense. But, oh well. As you said, to each their own.

If you take off the screen protector for the defender case for the iphone 6 plus, will the Tech Armor Ballistic Glass Screen Protector work with this case?

Screen Protectors | New Color Availability

I believe on amazon it said it was 0.33mm. So would that work with defender if I take the screen off?

Yes, at .33mm it would work without hesitation. Make sure when you're taking off the old screen protector you get some alcohol to help assist in the removal of the glue that held it on. I would avoid Goof Off as much as possible, as the chemical will begin to strip the material along with the glue. I learned this the "hard" way, but caught it quick enough I didn't end up damaging the case. Alcohol and a razor blade were my biggest asset aside from PATIENCE. Take your time, you'll be happy you did.

ALSO!!! MORE COLORS JUST BECAME AVAILABLE!!!

Black and Blaze Pink slip available.
Black and Citron Green shell available.

Gunmetal Grey Slip and White Shell still currently out of stock.

Other colors "coming soon"!!!

First Impressions | A General Review

First of all, my overall experience thus far with the case has been positive. I've been a fan of the Otterbox Defender for over three years now and have had them on three total iPhones from 4S to 5S. My experience with their product up to and including this case is that their quality standards and tolerances become more and more precise as time goes by.

I have noticed some complaints about the bottom port flaps being "backwards" on this case or not lined up properly. Not only are all my ports perfectly lined up, but I personally find their new design makes much tighter and flush seals against the phone.

Early reports of original iPhone 6 Defenders not fitting properly or having a poor build quality are most clearly due to a decision made by upper management to pump out cases based on specs from the rumor mill before Apple even officially announced the new design. This is my educated guess, and it was a gamble on their part. Over time, I'm not sure if this strategy will pay off or hurt the company. As everyone is fully aware, Otter has always stood behind their warranty and guarantee, and I assume they'll simply replace those old poorly made cases as complaints come in.

Since the 6 PLUS had far fewer (if any?) design leaks, it took the company much more time to start pumping out cases. As we saw, over a month until the black on black hit the market. Thankfully, they took this time to do it right.

Opening the padded cardboard envelope was exciting, seeing the size of the belt clip was comical and shocking! Seriously, wearing this thing on my hip would probably look incredibly ridiculous. I'm not sure anything would hide the fact that this was under my shirt. It would probably be easier to conceal a small firearm. Will I ever wear this thing on my hip? Maybe... but probably not. More than likely, I'll leave my phone to my wife's purse if we're going out for a night on the town, or on the nightstand next to the bed. If you're the kind of person who brings their phone EVERYWHERE with them, the Defender on the 6+ may not be for you. I'll post a picture later with the phone on my hip.

The feel of the case is incredible. Immediately I was assured my phone was in the best possible protection on the market. I've picked up the competition and very few come near this type of quality. The only other cases in this league would be LifeProof, Pelican and maybe Griffin. There is no doubt when you pick up this case it's made to exacting standards only the best can produce.

Make no mistake, the case is HUGE! However... so is the 6+. In fact I personally think the Defender brings back balance to the phone, that when case-less, is sorely missing. I no longer feel as if the phone is top heavy and ready to fall forward out of my grip.

Speaking of grip, this case has just the right amount. Otterbox has been working to improve their outer slip covers for years and the chemical composition is only getting better. This is the best yet.

Taking off the screen protector was a MAJOR pain the butt. I detailed in an earlier post just how difficult it was compared to other models, but seriously, bring your patience. Don't use Goof Off as I suggested earlier as well, the glue doesn't come off as easily as previous models and the Goof Off begins to dissolve the shell. Thankfully I noticed quickly enough and switched to alcohol. This worked just as well and didn't seem to have any negative impact on the plastic.

I've had the case on now for less than 24 hours, but so far I'm very impressed. If anything, I'm "second guessing" my decision to get the + over the regular, but I'm not questioning this case in the slightest. Hopefully, over time I'll get used to using this phone with one hand. Right now, it seems impossible!

Thanks everyone!! Hope you're all enjoying your cases!!

Nice review Digg! I couldn't have said it better myself and I've had my case for over two weeks. The one thing I learned with having to buy two cases (one for me and one for the wife) was screen removal wasn't as bad on the second one. I didn't use "goo gone" I used charcoal lighter which worked really well without harming the plastic. The other was to peel the screen off really slow which helped remove most of the glue before applying any solvent. Other than that I use my holster most of the time since I live in Florida and rarely dress in more than casual clothing. I'm glad you like your case.

When summer hits I'm sure the holster will come out from time to time :)

Great review dig. It is a great case, and now that I am back to using my pelican I am wondering if I made a mistake in returning my defender.

I've got a ZAGG HDX screen protector on my 6+ now. If I get a new Defender, will I have to remove the ZAGG for the case to work properly with the Defender? And I understand it is more difficult to remove the thin shield on the Defender than it used to be, if I want to take that approach. Are there any good vids available on removing the current Defender shield?

Thanks!

Thanks! Why are you re-considering your Pelican?

I've also got the ZAGG HDX, no need to remove it as it works GREAT with the Defender. You WILL want to remove the thin plastic shield on the Defender. I am unsure if anyone has made any video available, but I highly suggest getting three things to help you.

  1. Rubbing Alcohol
  2. A new razor blade
  3. PATIENCE!!!

Honestly, it took me a little more than 30 minutes to remove it and the glue completely. But it was OH SO WORTH IT!!! :D

Interestingly, I was at a Verizon store an hour ago, and no joke there was the defender, and for less than I paid with shipping at otter box's site

just finishing taking the screen out now.
