My buddy switched 3D Touch off (in the Accessibility menus) and his lag disappeared. Interesting...

This didn't fix it for me. 6s+ 128GB TSMC.

Oddly, for me the delay only seems to happen when I unlock the phone to resume an app - if I unlock to the home screen then it doesn't delay.

It sounds like you have symptoms similar to the ones in this video. Common problems that will hopefully be worked out. I didn't start having the frame drops until 9.1.

I do not have those crazy frame drops anymore in iOS 9.2 public beta. The multitasking menu, for example, is now DEFINITELY 60fps. I certainly noticed it was not before 9.2 public beta.

The only one from that video that isn't QUITE up to snuff is the 3D touch apps. It's not 30fps anymore, but it's not 60fps either like on my wife's 6s (she's running 9.1, but as the video suggests - the 6s never suffered like the 6s Plus did anyway).

Someone mentioned, I'm not sure if in this thread, restoring several times until the fault goes away. I restored last night and the unlocking lag arrived on my phone when it hadn't been there previously. I restored again, twice and each time it was there. So I restored a third time and it was gone. So it's definitely a software corruption and for some inexplicable reason it can be made to disappear with a clean install. Quite why it takes several attempts is anyone's guess!

By clean restore do you mean via iTunes, or do you first log out of iCloud on the phone, then erase all settings to take it back to factory and the set up again from backup?

Interesting theory. My lag was gone when i was trying installing betas a while back.

If your phone had no lag out of the box but the lag came later after installing something or doing a backup, then erasing all data & settings (possibly multiple times) should fix it. If your phone lagged out of the box then it's possible that the original flash of iOS was corrupted and therefore you would need to do a clean DFU install through iTunes (again possibly multiple times). It seems that installation of iOS9 is extremely sensitive.

So I understand that you succeeded installing iOS fresh without any lag, while you had one before? How did you check if you still have a lag? Without loading backup and without signing with Apple ID?

No lag out of the box, but I introduced lag by restoring iOS through iTunes a day or two later.
My previous 6S+ lagged straight out of the box. There was stuttering whilst going through the initial set-up procedure on the phone and after that I only signed into iCloud, I didn't install any backups. It was set up as a new phone. Lag after unlocking the phone was the main symptom.

My 6s doesn't freeze when unlocking but the task bar at the top takes a second to appear sometimes. I guess that's a plus compared to some that have a frozen screen for longer.

What restore options, if any may correct this or could restores actually make it worse and bring on the frozen screen? I can live with it like this as I've gotten used to it but if I can correct it I definitely would like to. Did it on 9.0 and 9.1.

I don't claim to be an expert on this as it's a randomly occurring fault. Some people say that it goes away when they update to a newer version of iOS9, and for others that brings it on. All I know is that one phone had this out of the box, and with another it occurred after an update. It would appear that something goes wrong when iOS is installed and what that 'something' is I'm unsure of. However, reinstalling iOS - sometimes it takes multiple attempts - cures this fault.

With my own phone all I needed to do was erase all contents & settings but I had to do this several times. It was an experiment based upon reading someone else's trials and tribulations with lag. They claimed that if you keep on reinstalling iOS9 the lag will disappear at some point, and it did for me. Obviously installations and updates are temperamental even if you don't use a backup. Apple needs to work on this iOS fragility.

Itd weird that it happens only on the most recent devices. I'm torn between trying to restore multiple times and waiting for 9.2 :/

Just reset mine 3rd time with iTunes, and then restored iTunes backup. Now 1 1/2 day and no more 2-4 seconds lag when unlock, now max up to 1 second until the status bar is shown.

On 9.1, and have Siri an suggestions turned on, 2 fingers in touch id. Seems te be an issue in the software if a phone can be reset and then lag is gone.

My original 6s Plus 128 GB never lagged, but periodically Bluetooth and Wifi would stop working so I had it replaced. I set the new one up as new and it lagged severely for several days (I'm talking 10 second freezes when unlocking), but eventually settled down to a 1 to 2 second lag.

Later once I determined that the Bluetooth & Wifi issue was fixed, I erased the phone and restored my backup I made from the original 6s Plus (which had been set up as new when iOS 9.0.1 came out).

My phone worked great after that, no lag at all, until I restored iOS 9.1 a week ago to fix an issue with the battery usage screen never updating. Since then I get a 2 second freeze any time the screen is locked for more than 10 seconds without background audio playing. This happens whether unlocking the phone or not. For example if I open the camera without unlocking, it takes a few about three seconds for the camera to display video. Compare that to my old iPhone 5s which takes a second.

There's something obviously wrong in software somewhere and possibly hardware as well since only the 6s Plus is affected and from what I've read primarily the 128 GB one. That and the fact that my first 6s Plus never lagged. I wish Apple would fix this or at least say they are working on fixing it. It's annoying and it makes Apple Pay harder to use.

It's a software bug. You introduced it when you restored. I did too, and I got rid of it by doing several more restores. You can fix it yourself. There is something fragile within iOS9 which doesn't install quite right on a number of occasions. Sure we shouldn't have to do this but a new phone will only give you the same bother. Some have the bug from unboxing, and some people introduce it when they install a backup, update iOS, or restore to cure other faults.

So i have to reset phone or i have to restore throught itunes ??
You have to erase all contents & settings, possibly multiple times, or do a DFU restore through iTunes, again possibly multiple times. You might be lucky and catch it first time. I managed on the third occasion and have zero lag anywhere now. It throws the 'indexing' theory right out of the window.

I'm not 100% sure it's software. I restored my original iPhone 6s Plus about 4 times, sometimes from backup and sometimes as new, and never saw the lag on that one at all.

The new one I restored as new when I first got it and didn't install anything on it and ended up with this:

That went away after a few days on it's own. I'm not seeing anything nearly that bad currently, but unlike before it's been a week and it hadn't gone away.

Some phones come with the bug right out of the box, which proves to me how temperamental flashing iOS9 can be on the new phones. I'm thinking that it's something to do with Touch ID. However, in all instances this lag either goes away by itself or you can make it go away by restoring. Sadly this can take multiple attempts. My phone was lagging like crazy but is 100% fixed now.

Unless you have to do another restore like I had to do after 9.1 came out. I guess I can do another restore.

Did you set up as new after every restore or restore your backup? I really don't want to keep restoring as new over and over again every time this occurs.

Also the fact that it takes multiple restored would seem to point to a potential problem with the flash memory. Like I mentioned I restored or erase everything on my first phone many times and never had the unlock lag. My new one has had it both times I restored, though not after the one time I erased all data.

Also there are "work arounds" where you won't see lag when unlocking. For example if playing music, the phone will never lag when unlocking since it won't go to "sleep". Similarly when locking with an app displayed it rarely lags when unlocking. Locking the phone on the home screen and waiting 15 almost always lags.
