100% not hardware-related. I took a day to really monitor this issue... ended up restoring my 128gb 6s to iOS 9.1 12 times:

  • Each time was exactly the same – set up as new, no backups. I changed zero settings, aside from setting up Touch ID with one finger, then spent close to an hour per restore testing for lag.

  • Results: The phone exhibited unlock lag after 8 of the 12 restores and exhibited zero lag (but still a disappearing status bar that reappears immediately) the other 4 times. For reference, the exact restores with no lag were #3, #4, #9, and #12; all others exhibited unlock lag.

This is strictly a software issue. Not sure what causes the lag, but it's definitely not hardware.

My lag has gone away. I initially disabled the motion and Siri suggestions but have them back on with no lag. Have had the phone a week but the lag went away after three or four days.

Guys, weird thing. Since last night, the lag for me is noticeably shorter, almost gone. I didn't do anything. It is still there, but not so annoying as before. Maybe it will completely disappear? Weird...

Just because the exact edge conditions needed to reproduce issue haven't been discovered doesn't mean it's not a software issue. Far too many variables to account for to be that simplistic about it. This is like returning a car to get a different tank of gas.

3 days here - unlocking lag still remains. Length of time is random.
Sold my old handset already so no going back.

Apple support said they would replace the handset, but would give me one from 'service stock'. As my handset was less then 24 hours old at the time I stated I wanted a new retail box, not a service stock. Hence Ive ordered a new handset and will return mine for a refund once it arrives.

Will set it up exactly the same. I know many are saying its a software issue, not hardware, but I just want to rule it out for myself. If I get the same with the replacement I guess I'll have to sit tight and wait [hopefully] for a possible fix.....

Haven't noticed any major freezes on my 6S+. But I've noticed many of the system level animations are terribly choppy compared to my old iPhone 6 running the same version of iOS. Multitasking view is always choppy and low in frame rate, same goes for pulling down on springboard to start spotlight search. Maybe it's because of the increased resolution so the A9 chip has to work harder? Maybe it's because iOS 9.1 is just poorly optimized on iPhone 6S Plus? Or maybe problems like this wouldn't have happened in the first place if Apple opted to use iPad-grade A9X chip in the 6+ to accommodate the higher resolution? Who knows. But one thing's for sure, it's not a pleasant experience to see a smartphone I paid such a premium for not having a premium software user experience.

It sounds like you have symptoms similar to the ones in this video. Common problems that will hopefully be worked out. I didn't start having the frame drops until 9.1.

I can confirm that 9.2 public beta fixes all of our lag problems! Everything is extremely fast and fluid again!!!

Lol, it's already been confirmed by me and many others that it doesn't and we still have all the issues that we have all reported, thanks for your post though

Are you on the public beta or developer beta, because others on the public beta which was released today also confirmed on the 9.2 public beta thread. I've had all the problems everyone on this thread has been having as well, so I was pretty excited to see them fixed after installing today

I was on the developer I restored to public and still the same issues.

Same problem here on 6s plus space grey 128gb TSMC version, here is an video of the issue, happens when I don't use the phone for some time, and not every time, sometime longer and shorter lag.

that's so weird! I have TSMC also! I can't be the only one experiencing major improvements...

I'd return that. That would drive me insane after a little while

It's ****, that's exactly the same on mine, a replacement has it also. However a friends doesn't, who has the exact same config, TSMC 128GB 6S Plus.

I've recieved an new iPhone 6S+ 128GB, exactly the same version that I've had, and the lag is not present anymore! I've restored from the same backup, so I don't understand where the problem was...

The only thing that's changed is that I've had de Samsung chip before and now I have the TSMC, but it doesn't seem to matter...

Out of four 6S+ I've had, only one exhibited the unlocking lag. You have a friend whose phone doesn't have it either, which suggests to me that this isn't a software bug. How/why would/could Apple send a fix for a problem that doesn't exist in many phones? My phone had the lag straight out of the box whilst working my way through the 'hello' initial settings.

I've read that some people's lag disappeared after a day or so but mine still had it after two full days. I would take any lagging phone back for replacement rather than hoping on a fix from Apple. Just keep swapping until you get a lag-free phone for peace of mind.

Mine (6s plus) was ok since launch, but now freezes up a lot. It's frustrating as I am a heavy power user, and rely on it for work on the run. Very in apple like. Hope they can fix it.

Exactly the same thing I had on my 6s Plus that I took to the Apple store and the stup*d "genius" said "that's only a few seconds, barely noticeable". I wanted to punch her because I kept showing the issue to her and she kept either ignoring me and looking somewhere else in the store or just kept saying, "I don't see it". Apple will never accept their faults.

My buddy switched 3D Touch off (in the Accessibility menus) and his lag disappeared. Interesting...

I'm gonna test this myself and see if there is anything to this. If it works it's going to be very unfortunate because this feature is one I was looking forward to most
