What urrrrrrkks me most???? That Mac is releasing products in bits and pieces.

I'd be happy if Apple released products like the auto industry does...Once a year...

Update the entire product line, top to bottom, no more buyer's remorse, reasonable expectations for reselling your items to people who want a deal...

I'm tired of Apple being so "Mysterious!"

Al Reis and Jack Trout... Save us!!!

I would also like to see them slow down on the mystery, but also release updated models when there is new technology to put in them, not wait. That way if we know quad core xeons are coming soon, we know the 8 core Mac Pro will be around the same time.

Updates once a year? Okay for the auto industry, not for computers though.

As for Apple releasing on Tuesdays, I'll bet this is more urban legend than actual truth. Certainly the last three OS X releases have been on Fridays or Saturdays, so no correlation there. I don't care to look up other product releases, but I recall many on non-Tuesdays, and yet the Tuesday myth persists.

mustang_dv's post is accurate with CD's and DVD's, as well as Apple products that are announced AND shipping the same day... the reason Steve does it isn't because of storing times and ship dates, but because the music biz does it and he wants to be a rock star :D

No it's not worth the wait (YMMV) .

I've got 4 hi-def commercials due for delivery by the middle of June.
I've been getting by with what I have, but time is up. I need something sooner rather than later.

If at the end of the year something is significantly better, I'll buy that.
You have to take the leap somewhere.
I've been waiting to take the leap since around August last year.
I don't throw money away, but I do try to make informed purchases.

I will not buy a new machine prior to the 8-core, though.

I hear ya ;) for me who keeps the computer MANY years - i'll wait - last one from 2002 quicksilver 733 - upgraded to dual 1.8g4

I know... you're probably right... but would it kill them to update The Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, Imacs and the Mac Mini at the same time?

So when people noticed this, did no one bother to click on the link and is if it had any more information? That would have been the first thing I would have tried to do.

Wait 'til November? You can't be serious. That's a whole 'nother life cycle. We can sell the first gen 8 core if what you predict really pans out so super much better. But there's no way any of us who need an 8 core Mac Pro now are going to wait for Rev.2.  :rolleyes:No Frickin' Way.

What I don't understand is why you don't just get 2-4 X-serve quads right now?

All ARE About To Be Almost Simultaneously Updated With Leopard On Board

Patience Grasshopper. ;)

That's what's about to happen as soon as they can all ship with Leopard and iLife '07. Few want to buy a new Mac now without them both on board. Only the uninformed and impatient would make such a leap today.

Two weeks 'til the Adobe CS3 Event in New York City March 27.
Four Weeks and 5 days until the Apple NAB Event in Las Vegas April 15.
And little more than 6 weeks until the last weekend in April when Leopard is likely to pounce on the market Friday April 27.

By then we should know most of what we crave to know now. Not much longer. If we have to wait into May it will be worth it to not face big bugs that would make our lives miserable for much longer after that were they not fixed first.

True bugs suck, but give us something, anything on Leopard and it's "new" features and any sort of speed bump of any kind would be great.

What the? mustang_dvs's post was informative, completely non-irritating, and on-topic for the subthread it was following. How could anyone possibly take offense to that? I found it interesting because I've sometimes wondered why DVD and CD releases are always on Tuesday. Seems like a plausible explanation.

Maybe you need to chill out. ;)

Thanks, that guy was out of left field -- I'm engaged, not married. ;)

Apple hardware tends to be announced/released on Tuesdays, major software tends to be rolled out on Fridays/Saturdays (notice that I did include Saturday in my original post). Weekend software introductions give customers 2-3 days, with relatively less pressure from the clock, to get their systems up and running -- which results in fewer support center calls.

Furthermore, with the introduction of Apple-operated retail stores, weekend introductions generate larger crowds, which leads to higher sales and visibility. (Some DVD and video game introductions have shifted to Saturday for similar reasons.)

people did click on the link... it went to the normal, non-updated Mac Pro page, though. it seems that a single (or few) fields in the product database got out, rather than the whole updated product page (just the field that mentions the 8 cores)

Next week then maybe ..

Since Tuesday is allmost over and nothing happend storewise.

It's funny how I forget that as soon as a new OSX comes out (e.g. 10.4.8)... the music editing programs and hardware companies (i.e. protools, audio interfaces) all need to release updates at the same time.

If they don't, more waiting... If I buy a new Mac with the launch of OSX 10.5, it would be rediculous to back-track to 10.4.9 or something...

G5 owners... sticking to your guns for now... I envy you!!!

I've been lurking the forums for a while, but this is my first actual post here.

Anyway, I am definitely going to wait for the revision for the Mac Pro before I make my purchase. Although a new version will always eventually come out and outdate your purchase, I'd rather buy when the revision first comes out, rather than buying right before the next revision. This especially holds true for me, since I plan to dump over 3k on the computer alone (and that's including an education discount and no display), and I want my money's worth.

What I think will probably happen is that the dual 2.0 GHz dual-core Xeon setup will be ditched, with the dual 2.66 GHz dual-core Xeon setup being the lower end, the dual 3.0 GHz dual-core Xeon being the midrange, and something like a dual 2.66 GHz quad-core Xeon setup filling the high-end. Depending on the price, I might get the dual quad-core setup, but if my predictions are correct, and the octo-core setup is much more expensive than the other options, I'll probably end up getting the dual 3.0 GHz dual-core setup.

What I'm mainly hoping for are other upgrades along with the processors. Sure, dual quad-cores are nice, but how about a refresh on the video card selection and dare I say it, the possible availability of a sound card option? Since the Mac Pro is used by many people for content creation with programs such as Final Cut, Logic, etc., it's beyond me how a workstation of this caliber doesn't offer the option of an internal sound card, as onboard sound from the motherboard is rather pathetic in comparison.

Also, better pricing on the RAM on the next revision would be nice too, as I can't seem to justify getting anything more than the 2 GB option from the Apple website without sourcing the RAM and heatsinks myself. A display update would be awesome too, hopefully lowering the prices and maying refreshing the lineup. The number of days since the Mac Pro refresh and display refresh are equal, so hopefully they will get updated at the same time. I know for a fact that if the displays aren't updated, I'll buy my own off of NewEgg or something, as I can easily find something better for less than half the price with Apple's current display lineup (14 ms response time? come on, Apple, get with it).

Basically, I'm just mainly waiting so my money will buy more for the same price or maybe even less. The Mac Pro revision better come by NAB at the very latest, or I'm going to be extremely disappointed, and I'm sure most of you would be as well.

As far as the possibility of Leopard coming with the Mac Pro revision, it would be cool, but doesn't matter to me a whole lot. My parents have 4 Apples at their house, and I can just persuade them to get the family pack for their Apples with Tiger and then I can use the 5th installation. I do, however, think that it would be best if Leopard comes on the new Mac Pros, because that would be less of a hassle for people.

If that's the case.. why don't you wait for the second Sayurday AFTER the release when the Refurb'd, outdated dual dual-cores hit the online store. Order one of those and then spend all the extra money you'd have spent on tons of RAM.

:)

I generally tend to only buy new computer stuff. That way, the resale value will be higher when I do decide to sell (as Apples tend to hold their value quite well). Also, I'm pretty anal and want all that cash I dump on a new setup to get me something brand new with the best warranty possible.

I can't believe the sun has come up in Oz today and still no 8-core Mac Pros. This is getting stupid!

They've been available in Dells for weeks and they're a drop-in replacement at the manufacturing stage....

The same thing happened with Core 2 Duo chips and the delay there was just as unnecessary as this is now.

The Quad Core means little for me, but what does is the *weak* offering of the current video cards. It seems they could refresh these every 3 months or so regardless of CPU upgrade. Go to the Dell website and the Dual Core have better video card offerings for nothing extra.

The Reality Distortion Field cannot be continually upheld if there is only one release date for us to argue over.

What on earth would happen to all the "waiting for leopard/santa rosa/iphone/8 core mac pro" threads?? This place would be BARREN!

You'd think that would be the case but I expect it would actually fuel even more posting on here, with people reading entrails and observing the flight of sparrows at dawn in an attempt to augur the future.

Lots of threads like:

"Chicken liver pointing east on full moon - new MacBook graphics chipset next update?"

"Step on a crack, buy your mother a new Mac?

"Dell 24 inch silver scrying bowl - worth it?"

One thing to remember....

For those of us who use these systems as production systems, we'ed much rather buy a new Mac with a proven 10.4.9, and then upgrade to Leopard once the bugs are ironed out.

Ship it now Steve!!!
