What abut the stck levels of the 16 Gig version

So far all I heard is they are out of stock in Europe of the 8Gig model and will not be getting more.

Do they still have 16 Gig version and if so how many?

Last I heard USA has them but constanly runnoing out of both models.

Someone please jump in with info on the 16 Gig version.

Sunds like the May 12 rumor was correct and that the phones will be available for sale by May 12 and not June.

I do not think Apple will sit tight selling zero phones until June or Sept as some has suggested. Factories for the new model must be cranking them 7/24.

This is likely huge.

I agree. To leave customers hanging at that price point for months would be a poor move on Apples part. If they truly aren't shipping anymore 8GB phones, an upgraded phone must be imminent.

Are you sure? They should have done.. it's part of the deal... the employee who did that probably got into trouble. The only place to get them without signing up is the apple store.

CPW seem to make all their money on contracts - hence the reason you can't get out of one without the 10 minute 'talktalk is great' speech. These days I cross the street if I see one... It's not the employees fault (I've know people who've worked there for a time, and they get as much **** as they give) but I'd certainly blame the one that signed me up for an expensive talktalk contract by slipping it in the middle of a bunch of vodafone ones, especially after I'd explicitly told him I wasn't interested. Sore point that...

in the past week or so i have bought three. two from cpw and one from 02. no-one said anything to me about the contract.

and since sign up is via itunes, i don't see what they could have done to get me to sign up in store.

I'm just not sure it's an apple move, more an O2 one. When we hear of apple stores having shortages and not replenishing stocks, that's the time to watch.. otherwise it's just resellers maximising profits.. if the 8gb doesn't do it for them, they stop selling. Happens all the time.

That's just activation, you still have to sign the contract, direct debit forms, insurance, etc. I believe you can do that online but it's by no means the only way to do it.

O2 employees I know are under *very* strict instructions on this. If they let an iphone out of the door without signing up it's a net loss to O2 if you jailbreak it.

Apple doesn't restric carrier offers

maybe Apple has pulled the plug on O2 because of their price reduction stunt?

During their conference call in the Q&A section Tim Cook (apple's COO) mentioned that the offers currently being made by O2 and T-Mobile were up to he carriers. The discounts were being absorbed byt the carriers themselves so Apple still gets the same profit from the sale. that's is also why Apple Uk has not lowered the prices on the 8GB iPhone

But we may see something like this over here during May to clear out the inventory here. This may probably happen once the 3G iPhone is formally announced though

Thanks to the most phenomenal response to the promotion, The Carphone Warehouse is now out of stock on the Apple iPhone.

Please can you remove all reference to the iphone promotion in your copy.

We apologise for the short notice but would like to thank everyone who participated in the campaign. Carphone do not expect to receive any additional stock at this time.

Is this a real memo? It seems as if Carphone Warehouse is more concerned about sales than with standard American grammar and punctuation.

Me Neither

I picked one up from an O2 store on Sunday. They did ask me if I wanted insurance or accessories - I didn't, but they made no attempt to make me sign a contract...

Grant.

Wow, consider yourself lucky. I have taken an alternative approach to movies on the iPhone. I rip movies in full quality and use for both iPhone and ATV (see sticky under Apple TV forum). My movies are 2.5GB to 4GB depending on amount of action in the movie. I can get one movie and my music on my old 8GB iPhone that I sold. I can't wait for a 32 GB iPhone. If they don't do it now I will buy the 16GB 3G iPhone.

My movie/TV solution:

All movies go on the Archos 504 160GB ;)

Any odd music vids/missed TV shows I want to catch up on or classic tv episodes go on the touch/iphone and get deleted after i watched em.

hehehe :_

In the UK "apologize" is spelt apologise.

Didn't spot anything else although I'm tired as hell.

I think its great how so many people who already have an iphone are going to "upgrade" to the newer model when it comes out. Should be easy for apple to reach the 10M mark when 20% (just a guess) of current users will be buying new ones :p

Yeah, excellent point, I realized that recently, too. Apple should have no trouble meeting that goal. And I will definitely be one of the upgraders!

When my mate bought me one online from CPW site he had to fill in a direct debit. He was worried about being charged on the contract so he called them up and said he wanted to return it . To cut a long story short they said that the DD forms are only for the credit check and the contract is via iTunes.

I bought mine yesterday from Loughborough o2 store, they said they had plenty and today they are sold out.

My friend ran in to Derby at 4.30PM and managed to get 8GB. If you want one, ring around nearby O2 stores, there may still be some available.

Bring on 3G, even though that will out-date me FAST. SJ should have known EDGE was already old news when it was released, I'm surprised they aren't being as cutting edge like they are with 802.11n.

I guess it was the lack of support in the US.

I got one today and 3G confirmed!!

I bought one today from O2 in Didcot.

I do want the 3G one when it comes out but I couldn't wait. The cost of the 8Gb one was covered by selling my Touch to someone.

Anyway, I was served by the Manager and I was asking him about the 18-month contract and whether that would have to be extended when I bought a 3G one.

He chirps up and says (about the question), "I do know the 3G one is coming out in TWO months and I assume you won't have to extend your contract".

Of course usual (Mac)Rumors apply but I thought it was funny/strange he just said it, no skirting round the question!

As for the 8Gb one, love it. I do have one question about it but that's for the forum!
