Mine came, got it out the box, turned it on, saw a very noticeable dead pixel and also some sort of spec of dust making a weird bright sparkle spot, sighed at the predictability, put it back in the box and arranged a replacement. Will take it to UPS drop off tomorrow.

Exactly the same thing happened with my last iPhone. I was convinced this would happen :(

But at least Apple don't quibble at all. Both the Irish lads I talked to said "of course it should be perfect".

Guess it'll be Monday or Tuesday till I get to play

Sorry to hear about that.

Hopefully your next one will be perfect.

Now you know why I ordered 2!

... and one of them has dust under the camera lens!! Went straight back into the box.

I decided to keep the good one, by the way. Also the Silicone Case & Smart Cover. Funny enough, being a perfect unit was one of the reasons for me keeping it (they are hard to find, believe it or not!).

I THOROUGHLY check my devices for dead pixels, as soon as I get them out of the box. I do this because they always reveal themselves at some point, and you can't ignore them once you've seen them! I'd rather know if they are there, so that I can exchange within the 14 days.

This is what I do:

1: Download Tubex (the BEST YouTube client, in my opinion!) Or you can use the client of your choice.

2: Turn Auto Rotate off on your device.

3: In YouTube search for "dead pixel test" - it should be the first video listed.

4: The video slowly cycles through the primary colours, then black then white.

5: Double tap the screen to fill it with the blank colour (don't forget you've already disabled screen rotate), and set brightness to full.

6: Pause on every colour, and carefully check your screen for dead pixels. Do this in a dark environment, for best results. I physically rotate my device (hence turning off auto rotate) so that I can check every inch of the screen!

I know this may seem a bit OTT, but dead pixels are one thing which I will not and can not suffer. Especially when the device is basically one big screen!

Anyway, it only takes about 10 minutes and that's nothing when you own a device for years.

But back to this new iPad ... I'm really glad I changed my mind and decided to keep it.

Enjoy :).

Got mine last night.

Loving it so far, the pencil is amazing! Great for annotating and highlighting PDF's at work.

Went in past the apple shop and bought a Product red Smart Cover and a midnight blue Silicon back cover. Think it looks very smart!! :)

Can't believe how bad ukmail are: the redelivery for my apple pencil has failed since tuesday and they have failed again at delivering my iPad. No one is even coming near my flat. I keep watching from outside and going outside and it is actually ridiculous.

did apple not choose a different courier for you after complaining?
i'm waiting for my replacement ipad, which is still in preparing for dispatch. i am worried that they ll use UK MAIL again and obviously they will probably mess it up again somehow. apple told me theyre not able to pick a courier......

nope apple tried to sort it again by getting ukmail to actually deliver it. i'm so annoyed with this 4 days of my life have been spent inside waiting for a delivery that i know isn't going to come. The driver is definitely not coming anywhere near because i have proof as i've watched and i'm just over this whole release already: so many phone calls, so many false promises

i'm in a very similar situation. It makes you think of not preordering in the future anymore, doesn't it?
how can they use UK mail, when surely, they get lots of complaints about them. just look at uk mails reviews on trust pilot....i've spoken to countless people (apple and uk mail) this week and no one was really able to help.

i could have my iPad right now and instead i won't have it till next week and its just ridiculous.

Exactly. My local Apple Store had the one I want in stock. I talked, again, to someone at apple and requested a delivery for tomorrow and not to use uk mail. He put it in the notes, but I doubt that it will change anything.

Thanks!

The first draft of my post had "I'm not sure if it was in this thread or another where someone said they'd ordered two in case one was duff, I thought that was a bit extreme at the time but I understand it now". So yes!

Not sure what I'll do when the next launch comes, but my last two purchases have had issues. I'm not sure how many times I'll have to get burned before I start doing that. Or maybe I should just go into the store when the iPhone 7 comes out. At the end of the day Apple shouldn't be shipping flawed products and hoping they don't get returned (is that too harsh on my part?).

It's weird, I don't get excited by pre-orders now because I have a "it'll probably have to go back" sinking feeling. I have the expectation that the next one will be duff somehow too.

In terms of my acceptance testing - this one didn't even get past the initial welcome screen (a bright white screen! hmmm!). But yeah I'll check it thoroughly across all colours before accepting it into the family. And good suggestion about the camera - didn't think of that.

HaHa ... sorry, I just had to laugh at your ending line!

I love the fact that you can muster up a bit of comedy, given the situation!

... I have the E-X-A-C-T same feeling!! Ever since the iPhone 4S (you would not believe how many I had to return!).

But these are top of the range, expensive devices so they really should be flawless.

And that's why I've now increased the probability of getting a good one, by buying two at a time!

It's nuts, but that's just the way it is (sadly).

Having said that, you should use it to your advantage. If you don't "have a moan" then these things will continue. I received two of the larger iPads with dead pixels, and because of that I am now receiving an £80 refund on the Silicone Case & Smart Cover for my 9.7" Pro.

£14 instead of £94 ... lovely jubbly.

You know it makes sense ;).

I'm really disgusted at UK Mail for letting you down again. And annoyed at Apple for messing you around... Really surprised at the pillar to post situation they are putting you in.

Not sure how close your local store is but if i worked in said store I'd be delivering it myself in person.

Funny enough my local Apple Store is 15mins from my house. Looking back I should've just gone there instead of bothering with preorder. Never again, that's for sure. I can't wait til this iPad actually ships and, more importantly, arrives. So much hassle.

It sucks you and some others have been put through this waiting game. Why don't you cancel your online order and just reserve one for pickup at your local Apple Store? Surely that'd be less hassle.

If it's any consolation Loveandterror, DPD delivered my iPad case, cover and pencil last Saturday without any special request for Saturday delivery :)

I would do it in a heartbeat, but I don't want to pay twice and waiting for the refund, you know, the money that they took from me before even shipping, is 5-7days. At this point in time I'm better off waiting til Monday.
It will be one sad weekend ;)

That actually sounds promising. Guess we ll find out at latest tonight who apple are going to ship with. They have my request to not use uk mail in the notes, but you know how it is. I'm gonna end up having trust issues with everything and everyone haha

I was chatting to our UK Mail guy this morning and he said that they took on a lot of temp drivers to cover the extra deliveries that were anticipated in line with the double Apple product launch yesterday, and this alone may have added to some people not receiving their orders.

Makes sense, but doesn't explain why they're so rude. I just wanna slap them all in the face haha

Well when you pre-order you shouldn't be expected to jump through so many hoops.

Like I said previously... You'd have thought someone at the Apple Store would be sent out to you... Maybe I expect too much, haha

Yeah, if they really were as sorry as they claim to be they could've arranged for me to pick one up in store or deliver from there. Pffft

God I'm struggling for to find a case other than Apple's. I refuse to pay £90 for a smart cover and silicone back case. Everything on Amazon are out of stock.
