Mine came, got it out the box, turned it on, saw a very noticeable dead pixel and also some sort of spec of dust making a weird bright sparkle spot, sighed at the predictability, put it back in the box and arranged a replacement. Will take it to UPS drop off tomorrow.
Exactly the same thing happened with my last iPhone. I was convinced this would happen
But at least Apple don't quibble at all. Both the Irish lads I talked to said "of course it should be perfect".
Guess it'll be Monday or Tuesday till I get to play![]()
Sorry to hear about that.
Hopefully your next one will be perfect.
Now you know why I ordered 2!
... and one of them has dust under the camera lens!! Went straight back into the box.
I decided to keep the good one, by the way. Also the Silicone Case & Smart Cover. Funny enough, being a perfect unit was one of the reasons for me keeping it (they are hard to find, believe it or not!).
I THOROUGHLY check my devices for dead pixels, as soon as I get them out of the box. I do this because they always reveal themselves at some point, and you can't ignore them once you've seen them! I'd rather know if they are there, so that I can exchange within the 14 days.
This is what I do:
1: Download Tubex (the BEST YouTube client, in my opinion!) Or you can use the client of your choice.
2: Turn Auto Rotate off on your device.
3: In YouTube search for "dead pixel test" - it should be the first video listed.
4: The video slowly cycles through the primary colours, then black then white.
5: Double tap the screen to fill it with the blank colour (don't forget you've already disabled screen rotate), and set brightness to full.
6: Pause on every colour, and carefully check your screen for dead pixels. Do this in a dark environment, for best results. I physically rotate my device (hence turning off auto rotate) so that I can check every inch of the screen!
I know this may seem a bit OTT, but dead pixels are one thing which I will not and can not suffer. Especially when the device is basically one big screen!
Anyway, it only takes about 10 minutes and that's nothing when you own a device for years.
But back to this new iPad ... I'm really glad I changed my mind and decided to keep it.
Enjoy
