I was on the fence about x or 8+. I've had my 6+ since launch and it was really showing it's age and installing iOS 11 on it basically crippled it. After comparing the X and 8+ I pulled the trigger on the 8+. I love it! While it would be nice to have the edge to edge screen I just can't get behind the design choices Apple made with that notch. Also, all the UI compromises to make that screen happen really bugs me. Maybe next year when the product has matured a little I might reconsider.

Yeah iOS 11 was noticeably laggy on my 6s+ and the 6s+ is quite a bit faster than the 6+. 11.0.1 helped a little but it still was nowhere near as fast as 10.3.3. Can't imagine what iOS 11 would be like on a 6+. :/

I didn't even attempt to update my 6s with 11. I left it on 10.3.3 because it was rock solid. While I eventually conform and upgrade, I much prefer to wait until the x.1 version give or take. I wish I'd have had the option with the 8+. Right now 11 is just a touch clunky to suit me. Good to have this feedback though as it will help determine when to upgrade the 6s that's been repurposed to a family member.

I had the beta and GM of 11 running on my 64g 6S (Not Plus) with no issues.

A few of the early beta's were a little buggy, but it really ran fine on that phone with no performance issues for me.

Handed it down to the wife when I got the 8.

I was torn between the 8+ or the X "pre-keynote" - "post keynote" there was no question - I went with the 8+ and while it will take a bit of getting use to the size - I love it!
Exactly the same. Wasn't so sure about whether to wait for the iPhone X, especially considering the iPhone 8 seemed like a disappointing upgrade over the iPhone 7. But then I've heard about the production issues with the iPhone X, and also realised that a new generation iPhone almost always come with its own issues. And add to that the higher pricing.

I just couldn't do it. But again, the iPhone 8 would've too small of an upgrade. So I went for the iPhone 8 Plus. Along with the new features over the iPhone 7 Plus I would of course get those features of the iPhone 7 Plus as well. Being particularly that dual camera system.

And I am so glad I did it. Because man, this device is amazing. Display is noticeably better, there's more screen estate of course, performance is top notch (and iOS 11.0.1 already fixed some annoying bugs and stutters as well). But it's mostly that camera that I'm in love with. Last year, the iPhone 7 already impressed me so much, especially in low-light performance. But the iPhone 8 Plus is even better. Photos look sharper, Portrait mode is great and actually something that I'll be using a lot, and there's of course 4K @ 60FPS. I mean, I'm not a camera expert by any means, but I just love how great pictures look when made with this device. Wireless charging is a bonus as well.

As for storage I did go a bit backwards: from 128 GB to 64 GB. Fortunately I don't really need 128 GB. I've had 240 apps on my iPhone 7, and actually used almost half of the storage (along with photos, videos etc.). So I was basically forced to do a clean setup. Which is good, because I got to find out which apps I actually do use. :p

Along with that it takes some getting used to the size of the iPhone. It's huge. Like... yuugee! xD

Anyway. Bottom line is that I love my iPhone 8 Plus. Glad I bought it!

Going to test using an Anker battery with the Anker Wireless charger later today :). I tried it just now but with the phone at 100% it just shuts off. Kinda nice having my wireless pad "mobile" in a way. Didn't think I'd love this wireless stuff but it is great.

I got my 8+ yesterday. It totally spanks my 6S+, I am surprised anyone would say that it is "not much of an upgrade from a 6S". Very pleased so far. I upgrade every other year, usually, and there's really nothing in the X that screams to me I need to get it. I don't mind the bezels and I like Touch ID just fine. It has everything else the X is going to have except an OLED display (zzzzzz) and FaceID, neither of which are very important to me.

I love mine.

I had a 7+ and never warmed to it because the battery life was iffy no matter what I did and I made the wrong colour choice for me on launch day impulse.

I love the space grey 8+, love the glass back, love the speed and responsiveness overall. And I now don’t appear to have a duff battery as i’m currently on 29% since taking off charge yesterday morning.

The camera is noticeably improved over the 7+ although the new portrait lighting modes are a bit naff in my opinion. I’m aware they’re still in beta though so that might change.

Pretty much this. Wasn't going to upgrade at one point but now know I made the right decision. X for me personally was a disappointment. Perhaps without the notch I'd have grabbed it. Now we have 12 months of consumer feedback (beta testing lol) and perhaps a revision this time next year. A X Plus even with a notch (and improvements elsewhere) might just grab me. But also, by the time it comes around app devs will have had a year of crafting their code for the X meaning second generation will be easier to jump on. Hashtag tactics.

Ended up switching to T-Mobile from AT&T. Could’ve kept my 7, but I’d really been itching for a larger screen.

Thought about going Galaxy Note, and was SO CLOSE, but I’m too invested in the ecosystem to change. (AirPods, Watch, Mac, etc).

Got the 256GB 8 Plus in gold. Loving every minute of it. So nice to finally have a larger phone. Took me a few years to want it :)
I am thinking of doing exactly the same thing. Was at t-Mobile yesterday and checked out the Gold 8+. Will save almost $30 per month and get an even better plan than I had with att. they told me $60 for phone and talk plan. SWEET!

I love my 8+ I know I am getting a well tested design and the better triangulation has made it a worthwhile upgrade for me. Ill get the X+ or whatever its named fall of 2019 once the new design is tested a bit along with faceid.

This is exactly my thinking! This design is tried and tested, it's pretty much perfected and I really love it. I'll let the real hardcore Apple fans try out the X and whatever next years models are gonna be before I jump in with those ones!

I love my 8+ it's incredible.

Got my 8+ space gray today(upgrade from 6+) and so far happy pictures look great and video as well,
which is the main selling point for me and wanted the dual cameras,
I saw someone in a other post saying it was to heavy now, My 6+ had a glass screen protector and case and holding the two the 8+ feels lighter, I don't plan to use the glass protector this time but may just go with the film type this time
I did pick up a clear case for it, it was on sale for 20, but really like the feel bare now, like others have said the old one felt
slippery bare.
I don't mind the bezels and like the color and design is fine, I'm sure Apple is kicking around new designs and will update
when they feel its ready.
Also only got the 64 because sense having the 6+ (when released) I have only never used 32gb of storage and a good amount of the apps I really don't use, so I deleted some off and may turn on the offload apps function.
The only thing I need to adjust to is the new haptic home button.

Why are you opting for a film protector over glass this time? Just out of curiosity. I've never had a screen protector but chose a glass one because the film ones feel weird to the touch...

.. second full day with the 8+..

FWIW.. no interest in X due to Notch and FaceID

Came from 6S+
Tried SE, 7+ and 7

I do want the crackling on calls fixed but that hit the news so good chance Apple resolving soon.

Outside of that, the 8+ may be my new favorite iPhone ever. 6S+ was prior. The 6S+ was a machine.. stable, fast, amazing camera (better than 7 in many areas IMO), great battery life, great design... LOVED it.

I keep seeing angst over no change in design. Many of us are not looking for drastic changes. I know I thought the Notch/Unibrow was a joke when MKBHD showed off the mockup.

I love the 8+. I love the glass back even though I cover it up most of the time. It will go streaking occasionally... it begs to streak.
It’s crazy fast.. the camera, from what I can tell.. is very, very good. I am concerned with how the two lenses play together.. we will see.
.. it just feels like a more solid and faster 6S+ with possibly a better camera.. that is everything I was looking for.

..also.. I know it takes several cycles for real battery life but today I came off charge at about 7:30 and have 4:14 of usage - 8:34 of standby and have 65% battery remaining.

Just finally set up my 8+. Loaded the iCloud back up from my 6s Plus and so far very impressed with this device! Screen is way sharper and better colours, camera is awesome and it’s stupid fast! Can only imagine how it will be in a day or two once things settle in!

It’s a nice design. I’m not upgrading since I have a 7 Plus. Probably upgrade next year and I hope they do a 9 Plus with Touch ID.

I was thinking of the wt. and thickness it adds to the phone, I have not decided yet, it will be a later date that I add either, but the glass ones do hold up over time a lot better, as the old one was still in great shape
if I see a good deal on the glass I'll most likely end up going that way, now that you got me thinking it over.

This sounds really sad...but I'm over the moon with my 8 Plus 64GB Space Grey!

I came from a 6S Space Grey 32GB, so quite an upgrade for me

Thing I'm impressed with:
  • Better camera - which I've not had much chance to use yet
  • Bigger phone display - love watching things on this already, browsing the internet etc
  • Bigger battery - it's insane! most I've got up to now with it is 20 hours and it still had 12% then too. I can easily get through a full day at work using the phone and have over 50% left!
  • Wireless charging - Love just dropping the phone on the charger, when it goes off picking it up without messing about with cables
  • Fast charging - I'm not bothered if it'll still take 2 hours or whatever to fast charge to 100%, I want fast charging because when my phone is on 20% after using it nearly all day, I wanna be able to get it topped up to see me through a night out whilst I'm getting ready, this easily happens and can boost it up for 70% before I go out
  • The colour/design - much much sexier and slicker! Looks spot on now, I was always confused before that space grey on the 6/6s was more of a silver on the back, this year it actually is grey, and i love the finishing around the side too

Only thing's I've not been impressed with:
  • Got the cracking interference, holding off returning it yet in the hope an iOS update resolves this
  • TrueTone - When turned on I felt it made colours warmer, but I didn't like it, white's felt more like a yellow and just not natural, so I've opted to turn this feature off

Unfortunately I have the clicking noise in the earpiece during some calls. Other than that I love this phone

Bit the bullet today and got the 8+ in gold. Other than its beauty my main reasoning was the camera, I’m an avid mobile photographer so I just had to have the latest and greatest Apple had to offer after seeing comparisons since launch.
Looking forward to utilising it this weekend!

And, did I say how beautiful is is???

I'm very happy with my Space Gray 8 Plus 256gb coming from a Jet Black 7 Plus 256gb scratch magnet. My feelings on the 8 Plus pretty much echo everyone else's on here regarding looks/design, performance and the camera so it seems this device provides a great user experience across the board.

Main reason I went for the 8 plus was that the X just wasn't calling out to me "BUY ME" considering the hardware is almost identical to the 8 Plus. I really can care less about Face ID however the 5.8" screen in a smaller form factor was intriguing, it just wan't enough to persuade me to spend the extra money on the X when the rest of the internal hardware is basically the same as what's in the 8 Plus but in a bigger frame and an almost as good rear camera.

The other reason I decided to sit out on the X was the supply chain issues that Apple is having with the manufacturing, I didn't feel the phone was worth a potential long wait just to be "perceived" as one of the "cool kids" to have the new phone. I'm already getting crap from people at my work that I should've waited for the X, it's the better phone. This isn't High School, I don't need to have the "new hotness", I'm not trying to impress people with my phone and I don't honestly see how the X is that much better so I'd rather save a few hundred bucks and let Apple work out the kinks for the next release in 2018.

I'm also on the Apple IUP program and I like to keep my annual upgrade cycles in September and if I held out for the X, that would mess up my cycle even if I was able to get the X in my hands in early November which in reality would most likely be December or January.

My only complaint so far, and I don't know if this is an iPhone 8/8+ issue or iOS 11 issue, but my bluetooth won't stay connected to devices such as my car, portable speakers or my headphones. The bluetooth keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every 1-3 minutes over and over and over. That is kind of annoying, especially when I'm trying to take a call in my car and the call keeps transferring from my car speakers and mic back to my handset back and forth endlessly. Other than that "minor" super annoying issue, the device is great and I have no regrets no waiting for the X.

Wow how unfortunate. Funny enough, my 6s+ did this very thing with anything bluetooth. Headsets would randomly disconnect, bluetooth keyboards would disconnect, speakers... My 8+ keeps the connection which is why I thought it originally had a stronger bluetooth. :/ I lived with my 6s+ for 1.7 years just thinking it was normal and avoided bluetooth. Now, my 8+ can stream music, do a bluetooth keyboard, and update stats from my Fitbit.

I had planned to keep my 6+ for another year. But my storage was almost full and I got $300 for trading it in so it seems like a no-brainer for the 8+. I absolutely love this phone and have zero interest in the X
