Samsung already did that with the desktop. And I believe one other manufacturer (Toshiba?) as well using the phone to operate the laptop. It's already here.

Yeah but they’re rubbish PCs because they use ARM chips which aren’t compatible with most of your software. Apple would face the same problem. I think the best version of this tech I saw basically just gave you a bigger interface to the same Android apps.

I’m not sure Apple will ever release an ARM MacBook, because it would confuse the product line. How much difference would there be between an ARM MacBook and an iPad with a keyboard?

In other words: if your application engine can run on one of Apple’s ARM chips with good performance for typical workloads, why not just create a touch & pencil UI and make it an iPad app?

Looks like Apple will stay ahead of the competition for years to come. I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon and the next best competitor can’t beat out the 7 and most are still beat by the 6s. Pretty impressive what they have been able to do. I anticipate they are working on an entire different desktop like platform based on what these chips can do.

Yeah but unlike the iPhone, the MacBook can actually be used to get work done.

Ah, here we go again.

The iPhone can't do everything a MacBook can, and it can't fit my needs 100% for business? Must mean nobody could use it for business.

I own a couple small businesses. If necessary, I could quite easily run my businesses exclusively from the iPhone X. I have a MacBook Pro and iPad mini because they are better for my needs, but mostly because of the bigger screens. I'm obviously doing things that the iPhone can already do well, but are you really that short-sighted to think that NOBODY can do "real work" on the iPhone, or are you just trying to be provocative?

I await your list of tasks the iPhone can't do, while you attempt to classify those things as "real work" and anything else the iPhone can do is not real work. Using the word "toy" is common in these arguments, but it's up to you.

So it really smoked all android devices out there, poor Samsung

But... but... I always hear it's not about the specs. I suppose that's only when it's not in Apple's favor, then it's the "experience". I'm just sick of this double standard that many folks have here.

All that power and the home screen is still a grid of Apps..there are innovative ways to use power and Apple fails to realize that.

I think the failure might be on your end. It's like you're saying a 16 core Xeon must be wasted because it's running a Linux server with only a command line interface.

At least the Samsung S8 is shipping. Why is Apple always so late to the game? Always behind

I wanted to upgrade my iPhone 4, but there is no way I will wait until November. Screw that. I may use this delay to switch to Android

I'm trying to figure out if you're being sarcastic or not... Apple always releases in the fall, and the iPhone 8 isn't delayed until November... Only the iPhone X... And you've skipped upgrading over at least 5 versions of the phone and now because the X isn't coming until November you're jumping ship?

If you're being sarcastic, great joke.

If you're being serious, I'm speechless... Or at least I will pretend to be.

Really isn't like saying that tbh.

The performance of these chips is great, I'm not questioning that but it really is like putting a V8 on a skateboard.

This story perfectly sums up why I need a $1000 Mac Pro Mini-Tower and not a $1000 phone that I have to play the staring game with daily.

I'm not surprised the all the iPhone fanboys want an A11 or A12 Mac. Clearly all of them are infected with Animoji Derangement and not thinking clearly. Switching to A series chips would be the nail in the coffin for the Mac Pro user and possibly the end of the Mac platform as we know it. Apple isn't going to beat Intel on this front anymore than IBM could. It's silly to think otherwise.

I just cant get over the name f this chip... It is something a 12 year old would come up with for their comic or something from some random SyFy channel show.

Anyway, it is tied to iOS... So as useless for anything real as the iPad Pro has been.
Video and photo processing, audio programs/ synths ,AR..useless?

I think the fanboys want apple to have more control over what comes out when Apple releases a mac?
Im all for that!
Back in the day Apple used Motorola and Ibm power pc...who knows where it will all end up?
Hopefully with Apple still making a Mac Pro!! And one that kicks @ss!

Well we know the iPhone X isn't released yet and they're still working on the software- but hopefully that glitch something to make you feel a bit better, what with the 2017 devices in your sig laggy & barely as fast as an iPhone 6s.

Nothing laggy....for me. Thanks, if I wanted any iPhone I would have one.

The problem with these stats is that most don't know what they mean, and they don't know how it compares to a competitors phone.

What can it do faster than brand X?
How many apps can it have open compared to brand X?
What apps have features either not available or that work poorly on brand X?

If you want to then explain what the numbers mean in relation to usage then people would at least have some reference point. Most people aren't technically knowledgable.

Software is obviuosly on first spot but that is a given when comparing ios vs samsung...I mean this is why android users spend their time on MacRumors right? I think it's call envy....try to see how many Apple trolls are on samsung rumors site if anyone care

the fact that 90% of apps on android are porting of the ios version has nothing to do with hardware spec, yes you need bigger battery on android, yes most game run slower, but who cares, this is not android vs ios rumors, if I want to read something about other platforms I just go in their specialized sites....this is not a school, if you don't know how to translate them into reality tough...

THESE chips perhaps, but you cannot summarily reject ARM chips in laptops...with over 35 years in the business I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about.

Agree, also this are ultra low power chips...who knows what they will be able to do in 3-4 years time with no power constrain
