I go the blank white screen on Absinthe as well, I used the direct link to download. Guess since the site's down it's not able to work right now.

This. 70% of Jailbreakers are pirates.

Disclaimer: My iPod Touch 1G is jailbroken, But not my iPad 2.

Honestly, It makes using iOS more complicated...

Also, The percent is not accurate, it's just an estimate.

while we're making up statistics... i bet 70% of nonJailbreakers are pirates. (music? movies?) give it a rest.

jailbreaking doesn't change the ios at all, it just opens up a door to install things that do. you choose what you install and therefore you are the one that chooses to make it more complicated. it's like saying stock ios sucks cause you installed a wallpaper that makes it hard to read your app titles, or you randomly put all your apps into different folders, don't label them, and say ios makes it hard to find your apps.

I jailbreaked my iPhone so that I can have a much much much better Chinese and Japanese input method than the default one!

I jailbreaked my iPhone so that I can port my Japanese-Chinese dictionary from my Mac to iPhone, since by default Apple only include an English and a Japanese dictionary.

I'm not being arrogant, so please try to help me understand why people jailbreak?

Besides being able to tether without dealing with your cell provider, I see that as a big positive but what else?

There are HUNDREDS of apps already available, no need to jailbreak.

Customizable? Doesn't really interest me, that's mostly a cosmetic thing.

What are the real benefits? Plus I hear more stories of people go back because they had more problems having the phone jailbroken.

Thanks

listen people. Jailbreaking opens the door for anything you can imagine, if you are good with a pc and can google you can find almost anything you can think of. And if you can't, well then get into coding and make it yourself. And for all you closed minded people who are here to argue, stay out of threads that don't interest you.

I have the same problem. Sometimes I get the articles and sometimes I get nothing. Did you figure anything out?

EDIT: And other times one of the blue notification boxes that reads:

Cannot Open Absinthe
Absinthe could not open the page
because the server stopped
responding

CLOSE RETRY

No. It dawned on me that the VPN toggle option that others are talking about right in Settings is likely placed there when GP is loaded. Mine didn't have it so I am restoring and going to try again. I'll post my progress.

This is a serious question and i hope someone could answer it. I dont get why people keep jailbreaking their iPhone instead of just getting an android? Im an iPhone user and i like it the way it is. if i wanted a jailbroken one, i would simply get a (cheapier) Android..

is it because of the apps? I really just want to know.

doesn't this also allow you to remove the carrier lock?!!

I need to resist the temptation to instantly upgrade whenever something new comes out! Argh. Stupid baseband!

Yeah, me too.. I don't need an unlock except when I travel, but my wife is on T-Mobile USA and I like to pass my old phones on to her. But I keep upgrading thinking there will be an unlock. Now she is stuck on a 3G and can't use my old 3GS because I kept upgrading it.. Not going to make this same mistake with my 4S.

(we did the numbers, and family plan on AT&T is not worth it, because she's grandfathered into a cheap plan, and she needs unlimited minutes/text, I need the bare minimum)

about time. although it's been so long, I kinda forgot why I want to jailbreak.
