Worked for me. All other solutions did not work for me. Your did.

Thanks

**White Screen Solved!!!**
I had tried for an hour and kept getting the white screen. The VPN thing never rebooted my iPad2.
But finally I sorted it:
Made sure all pass codes and locks were set to OFF
Ran the jailbreak again from the start
Then DO NOT RUN ABSINTHE FROM YOUR IPAD2 OR IPHONE 4S - just do the VPN trick again. Mine said something like IPSec in the VPN config, but this time when I got the VPN error IT DID REBOOT!
Then HURRAH! my Cydia icon was there! You don't actually need to run the Absinthe icon from your device! Hope this helps people!

Just jb'd my i4 yesterday and it breathed new life into the phone. Lots of great tweaks if you know where to look.

BiteSMS
Call Bar
sbsettings
activator
CameraLocker
GrooveShark
Pull to Refresh Safari
3G Unrestrictor 5
iFile
Safari DL Manager

just to name a few :)

Ow I am being taken to their website. I guess, better, than the,Can't connect to server error. But the Cydia download icon is not there :(

Yeah, me too. I get the database error, white screen, but no joy. When I turn VPN on, I get the error but it doesn't reboot. I have tried manually rebooting but no Cydia. Frustrating.

So jealous as I sit and wait for the windows version :(

You COULD just go to a friend with a mac and run it there. Just saying...

confirming this also worked for me!
64gb iphone 4s black
5.0.0 uk vodafone

Whats the second notification app you have there?

Why do I jailbreak:

So that if I feel like test driving another mobile OS theme, I can while staying within the iOS ecosystem and being able to revert at anytime..

So that I can control wi-fi, bluetooth, airplane mode and many other settings right from any screen without having to dig through the settings menu

Image

So that I can compose a text message, or view and reply to a text message from any screen including the lock screen without having to go into my SMS app..

I can go on and on with tweaks, themes and other reasons that make jailbreaking awesome, convenient and cool....... I have never pirated an app or any other software for that matter. I have a total of 17 apps on my phone not including the stock apple apps. I only download things that I need and will use and I happily pay for apps that are useful to me. I respect the work of developers and feel they should be compensated and jailbreaking does not change that.

Just performed successfully on my iPad 2.

Got some errors the first round: I backed up the content and restored to blank.

Got white screen the second time, opened settings, tapped on VPN "ON" and waited. The iPad rebooted and yes: it worked!

:) great stuff!

sometimes I surpass the white screen and I get a website, end of process. No Cydia, no reboot no nothing. Can anyone describe the successful process step by step?

I'm not unfriendly to it

But just don't tell me this is "freedom." This is a fun game, if you're into that kind of thing.

I'm not being arrogant, so please try to help me understand why people jailbreak?

Besides being able to tether without dealing with your cell provider, I see that as a big positive but what else?

There are HUNDREDS of apps already available, no need to jailbreak.

Customizable? Doesn't really interest me, that's mostly a cosmetic thing.

What are the real benefits? Plus I hear more stories of people go back because they had more problems having the phone jailbroken.

Thanks

There are some apps that Apple will probably never allow. Like a 3G or Wifi toggle sitting on your home screen.

This is so annoying VPN trick does not work. Getting a configuration error occured and nothing happens and just getting white screen on Absinthe app.

BINGO!!!!

Thanks man!

I also backed up my iPhone , restored BUT I did NOT restore from my last backup. I just kept it out of box like.

I closed iTunes and ran GP until it was done, left it plugged in, and clicked on the Absinthe icon. WHITE SCREEN. I closed it, opened settings and clicked on VPN, got error, but DID NOT close it. I waited about a minute and it rebooted with Cydia installed! YEA!!!!

This is a serious question and i hope someone could answer it. I dont get why people keep jailbreaking their iPhone instead of just getting an android? Im an iPhone user and i like it the way it is. if i wanted a jailbroken one, i would simply get a (cheapier) Android..

is it because of the apps? I really just want to know.

1. On most Android devices, you have to "root" it (the same thing as Jailbreaking, just a different term,) to gain full access. Some people just like to have root/administrator level access to their devices because it means they then control the security of the device.

2. Many perfectly legitimate applications are distributed on the Cydia app store, because they use OS APIs that Apple does not allow registered developers to use. (Things like customization of the home screen.)

3. Developers who don't want to/can't afford to join Apple's developer program may want to develop and test apps. Including cross-platform or open source apps, which can't be easily developed with Apple's official tools.

No Service?

I successfully Jailbroke my iPhone4s on 5.0.1.

After doing so I installed SBSettings and played with the 3G switches, etc.

Then I got "No Service". Stayed like that after every restart, network restart, etc.

Any ideas? I am restoring back now and plan on re-jailbreaking.

Finally got a message on the Absinthe Window itself (on the mac) to turn off my passcode lock.

So far still can't get to the server though...

I clicked that Jailbreak button again and it said something like...Looks like you already tried to JB this iPad and it failed. We Will now try to fix that for you.

Then it says Recovery Completed.

But still can't get to the server...
Same thing happened to me. Would have been nice to be told before running it how critical it is to not have a passcode lock. :)

In any case I removed the passcode lock but the second run of Absinthe flew by and ended in the recovery completed message.

So I ran Absinthe a third time and then it worked. Still got the database connect error but this time turning VPN on did cause a reboot--and after the reboot there was Cydia!
