Got it done for my ipad2 now 4s is next. worked fine. Just turn on VPN and let it do its thing. Also make sure there are no custom VPNs in there. I had one i used and it wouldn't work. after I deleted it and enabled vpn toggle it worked perfectly

anyone Issues after the Jailbreak with the iPod-Function?! My iPod does not work after the Jailbreak!

iPhone4S 5.0.1 (6-Version), iTunes Match.

The Podcast-Function ist working... only the iPod-Function has issues.

Thx.

Turn VPN on in the settings. You may have to do it two times. Then the phone will auto restart and then cydia will be on the the sec screen. This currently works for the "white screen" issue.

Just did it!

Awesome news!

Been waiting for this for over a year. Wonder just how many ppl are on their site at the moment, they must be slammed. Not sure how the jailbreak works but, I've got a server; anyway I could host a copy?

Google "absinthe-mac-0.1.2-1.zip" that's the offical file name. You can download it from a ton of places online.

I don't want to link to those sites here.

If I jailbreak and I need to go to the genius bar can I just go into DFU and set it up as a new iPhone? Will the genius still be able to tell?

You can always restore a jailbreak in iTunes to a factory condition. The genius bar won't know at that point. There is no jailbreak history in the phone with a clean restore

I gave my sister my 4 with iOS5 installed and she lives outside of the US. She can't unlock the phone because it was used as an AT&T phone now with iOS5. I don't know the baseband. Would she be able to use this software to jailbreak and then unlock? Sorry if I'm not able to provide the baseband info. I don't even know what it is.

The baseband is the key to knowing if she'll be able to unlock it using ultrasn0w after jailbreaking. Get her to find out what it is and then we might be able to give you an answer.

http://www.iphoneheat.com/2009/03/how-to-check-firmware-version-and-baseband-version-of-iphone/

But if she's still on iOS 5.0 then chances are that she can unlock it after jailbreaking.

Finally got a message on the Absinthe Window itself (on the mac) to turn off my passcode lock.

So far still can't get to the server though...

I clicked that Jailbreak button again and it said something like...Looks like you already tried to JB this iPad and it failed. We Will now try to fix that for you.

Then it says Recovery Completed.

But still can't get to the server...

I am having this same issue on my iPad 2. Are we going to have to do a restore to make this work?

This is a serious question and i hope someone could answer it. I dont get why people keep jailbreaking their iPhone instead of just getting an android? Im an iPhone user and i like it the way it is. if i wanted a jailbroken one, i would simply get a (cheapier) Android..

is it because of the apps? I really just want to know.

You would still need to root your Android in order to install unauthorized apps to your device.

Rooting Android is the same deal as jailbreaking an iPhone.

confused...

OK - got this on a 4s - got the absinthe icon on the phone. run it and just get the white screen.

Videos say to turn on VPN once or twice and then the phone will reboot and you'll have a cydia icon. That part isn't working for me. 'VPN on' 9 times so far - it doesn't reboot. Rebooting manually after the vpn "connection error" message does nothing.

Reloading the absinthe icon a few dozen times and I "got through" to the website, but it's ... just the website. It didn't magically install anything when it loaded.

What am I missing here?

"Jailbreakers are pirates" is a really poor assumption. Makes about as much sense as "Rock music leads you to the devil," or "Sailing too far out into the ocean will cause you to fall off the edge of the Earth."

indeed, it makes even less sense considering that the jailbreak alone doesn't even enable you to download and install cracked apps. u need to add a repo and they even warn u that its illegal and if u still click ur to blame and not the devs of the jailbreak

Crash Test Dummy AA5

I did my iCloud backup and reset my network settings & home screen <-- more for my own peace of mind.

Well, the first run went smoothly (about 10 minutes) but I couldn't find any sign of the Jailbreak (JB). Absinthe A5 (AA5) messaged for turning off my passcode, with handy instructions where to do it; duh! but thanks  Also, I had too many apps since my folders were gone after I restored my home page (yeah, 11 pages). Did a little organizing of my apps to make room ;)

So, second time around:
  • Plugged in and ran AA5. ~ 15 minutes
  • A5 device restarted on it's own
[*]I unlocked SIM then saw message on AA5 GUI (Mac) to not touch device. :(
  • I unplugged and replugged A5 device:rolleyes:
  • AA5 GUI on Mac recognized a failed attempt on A5 device, recovered in seconds.
  • Still no "Jailbreak" icon anywhere to be found

    THIRD
  • Unplugged A5 device
  • Restarted A5 device
  • Plugged in A5 device
  • Poured me a MackMyra
  • 20 minutes later, all done.

Can't find "Jailbroken" icon in any home screen. All settings are on my phone and no lost data of any kind what-so-ever.

No Jailbreak either.... What gives?

Hrm... Tried absinthe install from the mac a second time - it'll detect that you tried to install before and say 'i'll try to fix it'. But you'll need to unplug and replug after that 'fix' to get the process running again.

Hitting the 'absinthe' icon on the phone again brought up the site, then about 30 seconds later it reboot, 2 or 3 times, and now cydia is on there.

Hope this helps someone.

**White Screen Solved!!!**
I had tried for an hour and kept getting the white screen. The VPN thing never rebooted my iPad2.
But finally I sorted it:
Made sure all pass codes and locks were set to OFF
Ran the jailbreak again from the start
Then DO NOT RUN ABSINTHE FROM YOUR IPAD2 OR IPHONE 4S - just do the VPN trick again. Mine said something like IPSec in the VPN config, but this time when I got the VPN error IT DID REBOOT!
Then HURRAH! my Cydia icon was there! You don't actually need to run the Absinthe icon from your device! Hope this helps people!

Ow I am being taken to their website. I guess, better, than the,Can't connect to server error. But the Cydia download icon is not there :(

OH MY GOD...what is this Cydia thing on my screen! Wooohoooo! Jailbreak went very smooth...I did get the database error but the VPN trick worked! Donations heading over to dev-team in a few minutes! Thank you! Thank you!

Alright, now on to customizing and tweaking! :)
