Stop crying adobe. If your platform ran better on the mac and the ipad apple wouldn't exclude it. It's your fault.

I have an adobe jacket that I wear alot and I walked into the Apple store to check out the new Macbook Pros. They were looking at me like I had a giant sign that said "Go screw yourself Apple".

Now I know why.

and what the hell can they sue for? apple can stipulate what ever they want on there own platform, its a closed ecosystem and if people want to be part of it they must abide by apples rules.
Well for starters, I would assume defamation could be a possibility. But it is an open market and free enterprise. Just like any business, they can refuse to sell to whoever they want, for whatever they want. Any they can refuse to cater to Adobe.

Sue? Sue for what?

Apple is nowhere near a monopoly position with the iPhone. The iPad *just* went on sale, etc. Even with the iPod Touch Apple has 70% of the market, not much more.

Adobe doesn't seem to know what they're getting into here.

"Blow up in Apple's face"? How? Why? Why shouldn't it blow up in Adobe's face, which is very much how it's looking now?

WTF is going on with Adobe? LOL

Understandable that they will sue, but I don't know how they can win this.

Any laywers out there - thoughts?

and they SHOULD sue.

Why should Adobe sue Apple?

Apple designed and created the products. They should not be forced to support Adobe. If Adobe wants their products on a device like an iPhone or an iPad then Adobe should build their own devices.

Good!! :D

I love my Apple products, but I think Mr. Jobs is acting childish when it comes to Adobe...

Even though they're (Adobe) going to lose in the end! It's worth a try!!

I know what Adobe is going to sue apple for, they're going to sue for emotional distress. Adobe is upset because the main reason they bought macromedia is going down in flames, and Apple is leading the charge, so naturally Adobe wants to take down the leader. Good luck Adobe, you're going to need it.

Don

And just what is Adobe going to sue Apple for ?

Exactly what I was thinking!

It’s their system, they’re not forcing anyone to buy their products and their software is not available for other platforms, so it’s nothing like Windows.

Adobe could exert pressure by stopping CS development, but that’d probably upset too many customers to be worth it. I’ll wait and see if there is a substantial difference for multitasking with a native app compared to a Flash-ported app, but what Apple has said on the issue so far seems plausible.

Besides all that, Flash crashes on my mac all the time, as if I want that happening on my iPhone. Maybe when they release something that doesn’t make my computer go nuts I’d reconsider their stance.

Its just not that easy. They have to have some legal rights in order to sue Apple. What are they going to sue Apple for?

The smell of death is in the air, the adobe shareholders really need to sack the board before its to late, fighting this is madness, as i said apple are quite entitles to make what ever terms and conditions they want on there own product, Adobe have attached them selves to apple like a leach and now apple have had enough they dont like it, relationships between companies change, get over it, they blew it years ago let alone publicly slating apple regarding flash and the iPhone, we all know how Steve loves that .

If Adobe are to survive they either need to stop moaning and move on or a change in leadership is needed to repair the relationship with Apple.

I'm confused... what are they suing for exactly?

Exactly. Would they sue Apple for being mean to them? They can't claim Apple is a monopoly becasue they (Adobe) have total access to 95% of the rest of the PC world. The anti-competitive argument won't fly either. It's one thing to sue a company because they ARE using your patented technology without a license. It's another thing all together to sue someone in an effort to FORCE them to use your technology. If that were the case then Apple should be able to sue any software vendor that doesn't produce a Mac version of their products, like Intuit for example;) Couldn't Apple sue Adobe for producing a sub-par version of Flash using the same reasoning?

I have trouble believing this rumor has any basis. It's just stupid.

Anyone know exactly what Adobe would sue Apple over?

The article doesn't say, and you can't just sue someone because you are mad at them, there has to be a legitimate legal dispute. I'll be very curious to what exactly the law suit is based on.

This seems open and shut. The App Store is Apple's platform, not Adobe's. Apple can choose to control its content as it sees fit.

This Adobe quote back in 2008 seems to contradict their current position.
Now let me be very clear about something: It’s entirely Apple’s call about what’s best for the Mac OS and how to spend their engineering cycles. Like any development team, they have finite resources & need to spend them judiciously. They’ve decided that Carbon 64 doesn’t belong on their roadmap, and we respect their decision. It’s up to Adobe to adapt to the new plan.

Seems to be the same idea now in 2010. It is entirely Apple's call about what is best for the iPhone OS and the App Store. They have decided that Flash cross-platform application tools don't belong on their roadmap. It's up to Adobe to adapt to their plan.

I predicted that Apple should countersue Adobe for making horrible buggy bloated flash player on mac platform for many many years while it was running smoothly on PeeCee world. So it wasn't fair to us mac users though. I'm on Apple's side for this.

Childish or not, it is well within Jobs right to say he doesn't want Flash on the iPhone, etc.

If you can't innovate then litigate.

HTC and Nokia know that one too well. :(

Here's to innovation!

H-larious.

Apple can do what it wants with it's software packages and terms. People really need to get over it. Flash sucks. For years Apple was THE preferred platform for any serious graphic design and Adobe put Apple first. Then Adobe decided to start releasing Photoshop and other CS software for the PC first. Sorry but the Mac was your bread and butter. All film, video, and print publishing is done on the Mac. Adobe should pull its head out of its derriere and get with the program. Flash is outdated technology slowing the web down. Find another way to make Adobe relevant again.

True

I can't imagine what they are going to sue for either...I'm not a lawyer, but I have worked with and for legal depts before. You can ALWAYS find some reason to sue. But I can't see an upside/ win for Adobe. But - perhaps this is part of a negotiating tactic. That behind the scenes you can imagine that Apple and Adobe are talking about this stuff. It's not just happening on blog posts. So perhaps Adobe brought the issue up, seeking Apple to cave on some point of contention. Perhaps Apple doesn't want another legal broo-ha-ha right now and they will find a path. Perhaps a stand along Flash App player. Boy, I can't wait to have Flash developers develop their high quality, well thought out, amazing games/marketing pieces for Kellogg's cereal to my phone!
Quick question, why? It's like saying McDonalds is suing Burger King for not selling the Big Mac.
