Huh?

Adobe, who is themselves proprietary, is going to sue Apple because they feel that Apple is too proprietary not allowing cross-platform coding ala Flash or any other garbage method? Adobe needs to just fold and go away. Flash is crap and Adobe makes garbage. Photoshop is so bloated, I would rather use GIMP.

Shakespeare was right. (Even if I'm taking it completely out of context.)

That said, I wonder if Adobe doesn't actually have a case with this.

Apple might as well be considered the MS for the media/smartphone world at this moment.

"Might as well" isn't going to cut it.

Apple has 15% worldwide smartphone share and 25% US share. In mobile overall they're barely 3%, if that.

The only "Monopoly" going on here is the board game by Parker Brothers, and Apple is winning.

Apple might as well be considered the MS for the media/smartphone world at this moment.

With a market share that puts it into 3rd place is hardly a monopoly. Plus, they are not even close to the company who is #1.

Adobe is suing because they have been "singled out" as the only vendor being excluded from development by Apple.

Just a guess mind you...

So you want Adobe to get embroiled in a difficult (if not impossible, as it seems) legal battle but ALSO lose money?

Loads of money, counting on the fact that many media businesses use Adobe products much more on a Mac than a PC, it seems like a stupid repetitive comment, but hey! It's dam true.

Man, there are some stunning comments in this thread. It seems a lot of you want the legal system gamed in order to punish or reward whoever you like. I'm certainly glad none of you are in the legal system.

Can I ask a stupid question? What is better HTML5 or Flash? Or is it not that simple? I think Apple may be too harsh but Adobe should move on, make new stuff.

The only thing MS was the monopoly on was crap. You want crap, go ahead.

Apple isn't a monopoly. They are selling relatively higher priced hardware and gadgets and they are still leading in market share. That's just good business. One could argue that they got there because of the iTunes Music and App Stores, but they just had the initiative and wherewithal that no other company would attempt.

And it payed off.

what a load of crap...adobe have absoultely nothing to sue them for whatsoever...clearly if this is a route they are even considering instead of actually improving the products to make them to apple's high standards then they deserve to lose everything they will end up losing.

as for this comment..
I'm 100% behind Adobe..

sure go ahead....not sure what your expecting to stand behind exactly?

Apple can do, say and create anything they like...and issue the rules of the game to those who want to play.
Adobe have problems because they cant meet those rules..

Its called Business....and Adobe are failing.

Haha, no way, Adobe makes amazing applications, there is no way another application can do what Adobe does... I speak as a web/graphic designer.. No other Image-editing software has filters/effects/features that are available on Photoshop.. It is by far the best application to use for Design..

I'm glad, but I'm a bit worried now.. @ Adobe.com you cannot pre-order Adobe CS5 for Mac =/ only the PC??

There better be CS5 for MAC!!!! I've said it many times before but If there isn't Apple is loosing me as a Mac User.. and I'm sure other Designers aswell..

There not going to kill 40-50% of there customer base.

I will be fascinated to see what legal leg Adobe might have to stand on. It's Apple's platform and software, and it's hard to imagine how one could argue that they don't have the right to control the user experience.

Apple never directly called out flash by itself. It is also not allowing java and other software code in either.

agreed however they are not preventing other browsers, just today Opera was granted access to the app store, coincidence perhaps or apple thinking ahead to what may be coming ???

It's not that simple because Flash (and HTML5) is used for many different things.

The consensus (From what I've seen) is that HTML5 is the future for watching videos while Flash will stick around longer for things like games.

I _REALLY_ hope Adobe does this and is at least somewhat successful. As much as I hate Flash and anything associated with it, it would be an awesome precedent and since Apple has shown no signs of coming around and opening up their platform, it's definitely time to force them to do it.

kthx :)

I'm confused... what are they suing for exactly?

Anti-competitive behaviour. Ask Microsoft how it feels to loose that battle...

Basically its about time, Apple is dominating several markets and actively preventing competition. They deserve and need a rap on the knuckles.
