I do. I now prefer it over google maps on my iPhone. On desktop I still use google maps.Who outside of San Francisco uses Apple Maps?
And it works outside the USA and Canada. Apple Maps is virtually useless anywhere else in the world.Google Maps is a far superior mapping system and it also has ads. No reason to stick with Apple Maps, especially since Google Maps got updated with immersive navigation so Apple doesn’t even look better anymore.
This is just the start of it though. Pretty soon they'll be doing like Lyft and force you to watch a video ad before you can even start navigating (it was real fun the first time that Lyft did that to me and I was using an MVNO with throttled video, yay for a stuttering DirecTV ad that had to finish playing before it even ordered my ride). The thing with ******tification is that it's progressive. It starts out with one company doing it then the next company starts and the first company gets more aggressive then the next company catches up, etc. These companies keep going until consumers say no loudly enough for them to hear it.I mean who cares. As long as it's not intrusive I'm ok with it.
Would people rather pay a subscription? I wouldn't. And Apple isn't a charity where they give away software and map services for free. As a software developer, I hate it when people think all software should be free and it's an abomination when it's not. These ads help make it free (not having to pay directly for it).
Plenty of issues with Google Maps, it is in no way superior.
Yup, no need to try to use something just because it has an Apple logo on it.Oh, wow. I was just thinking this week I should give Apple Maps another try, see whether it's improved since the last time... but if I'm gonna see ads anyway, I might as well stick with Google / Waze.
And, as those sponsors have deep pockets, they have a grip on the machinery of governments worldwide. So, you either provide those interests with the access they want on your terms (blocking deep tracking), or be forced by the government to open the entire platform to third party advertisers. No, but how do you think they stay in business, with hopes and dreams from sales? It’s freaking hilarious when people think that ads will go away, it’s not greed, but sponsors rule the world.
Yup, and free just like Apple Maps. This is what I have my portable car Garmin GPS for. No ads and live traffic updates available.
I see. I couldn’t get any to pop up while searching. There are ads but hidden, somewhat.
The most common is... when you stop, say at a set of lights, the ad will pop up.
Objectively incorrect. I used Apple Maps extensive in a recent trip to Switzerland and France and it was fine. And it works outside the USA and Canada. Apple Maps is virtually useless anywhere else in the world.
It’s not even “let’s see”. We already know how they’ll look. There are folks vehemently against that particular color blue with the white AD text on it. Or maybe it’s the font it’s in. Or, maybe, it’s because they haven’t liked anything Apple has done since they stopped hosting websites with iWeb or the myriad other projects Apple has ended/changes they’ve made over the years that make folks dream about Apple going out of business.People are freaking out. Let’s see how much intrusive these ads are. If they are just search results in highlight ok no big worries.
Also, if you see a company’s logo (and not a generic pin) that’s also a paid advertisement.I see. I couldn’t get any to pop up while searching.
And, MapKit is free (without exposing the dev’s customers to third-party tracking) for any native app.I mean who cares. As long as it's not intrusive I'm ok with it.

But what is their incentive to remove ads?Probably not it will probably be prebaked based on your area, only solution is to mass quit apple maps in hope Apple goes back to without ads
There are transit systems that have multiple entrances that each only go to one platform. So when you're walking to the intersection, you don't see the railings and signage over the stairs to train/subway, and you refer to a map to figure that out? And that makes one app superior?
OK then. I don't know how I used to get everywhere using Chicago mass transit without a map.
It ABSOLUTELY does."At Google, you are the product."
Apparently that applies to Apple, too.
Or just make these the last Apple products you buy? That’s d)My options:
a) Stay on iOS 26.4 until Apple realized they shot themselves in the foot.
b) Give in and get the newer iOS but remove Apple Maps immediately.
c) Boycott ANY business that dares to place an ad there.
hm... 🧐
