You can actually spend a lot more than that on really good headphones. It remains to be seen how these fare against really good headphones.

That's not quite a fair comparison though... these really need to perform well in their class, which is against other wireless headphones, and based on how the Airpods Pro perform, I think they will do well.

There are huge advantages to being wireless... well, wireless for starters w/ DAC/amp built-in, noise cancellation, being able to use them in calls/meetings, having DSP to correct for frequency response beyond the physical limitations of the drivers themselves, and being able to do experimental things like spatial audio. For the price I do expect them to be at the top of this class though.

In fairness, my attorney bro makes $180,000/year and even he was like "wait, wtf... no way."

I'm in a similar earning bracket as your friend and this was a no-brainer for me, but I've been an audiophile for some 20 years now (ie. the cost is cheap compared to most things I own) and can appreciate a good consumer-fi product. If your friend doesn't value audio products much that just means that's not where he spends his money, no harm there.

Errrrr…… But, you're wrong:

When did the Amana Radar Range come out?
1967

The convenient, time-saving microwave oven was becoming a practical necessity for a fast-paced world. People had less time to devote to cooking. Amana's Radarange, introduced in 1967, was the first compact microwave oven made for home use.
Doh! I stand corrected!

Apple could literally launch a turd and all these kids would complain all over the forum how ugly the turd is but then rush to buy it to show unboxing videos and brag about it.

These headphones are overpriced and force you to use bluetooth to stream your compressed audio.

who is buying those? everyone on MR was saying they are expensive :)

M1 MacBook Air 2020

, iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Radeon Pro 580 8GB) , Mac Mini 2012 Quad Core, iPhone Xs Max, Apple watch series 4, iPad 6, iPad 7, iPhone 6Plus

------

By the looks of your signature, YOU would be buying these.

I wonder how many of the people bagging this product would drop more $$$ on a television that will achieve obsolescence far more rapidly.

Audio is arguably the most important part of any viewing experience and these look like being the audio equivalent of Apple’s HDR Monitor. I’m in.

Actually no, you can use an audio jack adapter as well.

Damn, I dithered a little too long. When I first started shopping the silver were shipping next week, and by the time I talked myself into buying them an hour later the ship estimate was 12/31. Lesson learned: order first, cancel later if you really have to :)

A sucker is born every second
You realize that's exactly the kind of thing people say about people who spend $1K on an iPhone, right? I mean, you could have just bought an Android phone. Does that make you a sucker, or just someone who wants a nice phone?

I bought a pair. I’ve had two sets of Bose headphones and use AirPods regularly.

I spend enormous amounts of time at my workstation though, so I do not really hold back. It’s a part of my life that I allow some level of luxury and it can really pay off in utility such as with the XDR.

My delivery date for the blue is March 5-19 though.

Should be plenty of time to read reviews and think about it as the evaluation approaches.

I have no problem returning apple products that don’t meet the mark. I.e the 2015 MacBook Pro and the clear plastic case for the iPhone 12.

Lol mate I can afford these in every color if I want
I’m not going through the thread I only commented on a couple and replied who ever quoted my comments like you did
Are you one of those people that feel bad when someone questions your purchases?
I don’t give too flying cohoonas if someone questions my purchase. However it’s tiresome reading comment after comment here from people who are uninformed about the value of Apple technology and commerce, yet speak as though they are.

Resellers were all over these. Zero risk. Order a bunch and if there was no demand just return them all. Looking like these will sell well before Christmas though. Probably could bundle them with a PS5 for $2K and find buyers with $ to burn.

You do realize the stock might have been like 500 pieces and them "selling out" is all marketing, right?
I will never understand this argument how is it marketing if a product is sold out and you can't buy it...

Indeed.

It's the same story over and over again, lately – with the exception, maybe, for the HomePod, maybe...

It's ugly, pricy, Apple is doomed, terrible, LOL, what are smoking at Apple, etc. ... and yet it's selling like hot cakes. :)
It's almost as if Apple does marketing research...

Ehh I’ll wait and see, my guess is on the 15th you can open the Apple Store app and order a pair from your local store. That is exactly what I did with the M1 Air, it was 2 months out on delivery, and I picked it up on launch day with no issues...

Of course, YMMV, maybe they won’t have stock in the stores, but I highly doubt it.

$549 for what is sounding like a very compromised product to get it out the door that no one has heard or reviewed yet.

But hey, the Apple HiFi had a rush until it didn't too...

Oh...so Apple is not holding back production, but instead storing manufactured units in warehouses. Because successful companies like Apple love to hold inventory!

When I saw the blue AirPods Max this morning I was ready to order. But...seeing delivery is now 3-4 months out I decided to wait until March of next year. Hopefully I'll still be interested in ordering then, especially after reading some reviews.

Looks like your "guerrilla marketing" is working pretty well for Apple keeping those blue AirPods Max in inventory - and my money in my wallet!
No, they simply announced the product before they've had a chance to ramp up production. There are no warehouses full of them that Apple is sitting on. That's the marketing part of it. They wanted to get the word out before Christmas, even though they knew they wouldn't be able to fulfill demand. They took a problem - not having a product ready in time for the holidays - and turned it into a marketing campaign to give the appearance of high demand.
