AirPods Pro 2 Said to Feature Upgraded H1 Chip, Find My, Heart Rate Detection, USB-C and More

"the LC3 codec for AirPods Max through its beta firmware. For those unfamiliar, the LC3 codec is Bluetooth’s future low-power and high-quality codec that will come soon to headphones.

The Low Complexity Communication Codec – LC3 for short – will be able to transmit at much lower bitrates without dropping the audio quality we currently see with Bluetooth’s standard."
Bottom line is we can say that the audio experience on the AirPods Pro 2 will improve a lot.
Hope a similar tech will come to third party headphones too.
A bit frustrating if all headphones will remain on AAC on iPhone in the future, with the HQ streamimg only available on the airpods pro.
I don't mind giving apple money, but I strongly prefer the sound signature of other earbuds, specifically the technics eah-az60 I'm using these days.

maybe apple finally would make them able to be usable for phone calls .. OG Airpods pro mics like background noise too much

In regards to "hearing aid function" I think if I ask my my health insurance to assist it the cost, they will say, "What? I can't hear you." :p:p

All these improvements sounds great, but top of the list, no contest, is the Find My integration and the speaker on the case (if true). Headphones that I can find are 800% more useful than headphones I can't find. Anyone who's triggered to reply "I've never misplaced my airpods," talk to me after you have kids and 67% of your braincells are inactive at any given time.

I hope they keep the stems. I think they’re iconic. I’m a big fan, can’t wait to buy these 2nd gen AirPods Pro.

Edit: typo
Agree, I prefer the look with the stems, I don't like the look where it's just a bud in your ear. I think being able to squeeze the stems for switching between transparency/noise-cancelling mode and play/pause is preferable too, and like it over the "tap" on the regular Airpods and presumably what would have to happen if they went stem-less.

I've had the AirPod Pros since they came out, and battery life / charging case battery capacity has definitely taken a hit. So this will good timing to upgrade once they drop.

The bits about the charging case possibly supporting Find My would be equivalent to embedding an AirTag in the case, which is no big deal and a nice addition. Sometimes people lose an AirPod (or two), sometimes all three bits, sometimes they just lose the case.

However, adding microphones to the charging case for potential "hearing aid" use seem more dubious. As of now the charging cases do not have their own Bluetooth connection. Adding a third item to successfully pair would increase complexity substantially.

This sounds like the "Live Listen" feature for Made for iPhone hearing aids https://support.apple.com/HT203990 - it uses the microphone in the paired iPhone, which can be positioned closer to the sound source than the microphones in the hearing aids. In a noisy restaurant, for example, this can be a big help - put your iPhone near your dinner companion to get much clearer sound.

I could see adding "Live Listen" via iPhone to the range of AirPods capabilities - that can be done entirely via software. However, this is really hearing assistance rather than a true hearing aid, as hearing aids are tailored to compensate for the user's specific hearing loss.

In terms of the Bill of Materials I find a speaker in the charging case (in conjunction with AirTags capabilities) to be a reasonable addition - that would have utility for all users. I think adding a microphone and full Bluetooth audio capabilities to the charging case to be far less likely - relatively few users would be positively impacted (again, using the iPhone's microphone for Live Listen would handle the job for most users).

When they say it'll have improved drivers from AirPods 3... What? those same drivers the AirPods 3 use from the AirPods Pro? taking these rumours with a pinch of nope

If the speaker in the case is good enough rather than just chime maybe itll be able to double as a bluetooth speaker on its own

…can always dream

you can't call it pro , unless they made mag safe cables to each ear pod for lossless audio playback
I am out , not even now the old M1 chip...

Going to be a very expensive fall for me. I plan on upgrading to the AirPods Pro 2, a new M2 12.9 inch iPad Pro, a new stainless steel Apple Watch series 8 (and one for my wife), and a new iPhone 14 Pro Max (from a 12 Pro). Last fall I bought the 14 inch MacBook Pro, so I will be pretty much caught up.

Next the new mixed reality headset in 2023, the AR glasses in 2024, and the Apple car in 2025. And of course, by that time new rounds of phones, etc.

I wonder, would they really make them USB-C when the most commonly used device hasn't yet switched over?
