So, now it's becoming pretty clear: do no buy anything that has a lightning port. Apple is removing them one by one.

Please let USB-C be true
Even if it wasn’t, It’s not like lightning isn’t viable. I get the whole method of ‘uniformity’, but I would be totally fine with lightning, as I have so many lightning enabled devices and cables in my house.

Not only that, I wouldn’t even have to charge the AirPods with a cord at all, I could use wireless charging if I wanted to. That likely will be the real future of the AirPods eventually.

The only thing that would interest me is if they are capable of not amplifying every single sound in my surrounding when on a call. People sitting 5 meters away from me are as audible as I am myself on a teams call (or any other call, for that matter).

Even if I am typing while on the phone, my counterpart will ask if I can stop using my airpods and use the phone instead. It’s a serious issue which renders them practically useless for communication. I mean, hands free calling allows you to actually do something with your hands, but not with airpods. And for just a headset, you can buy much better for that money.

I would just like them not to hiss and crackle after a few months.

I would think rather than just an AirPod with this ability to use the case as a sound booster in noisy environments, Apple actually entered the hearing aid market. That is a wide open market set for disruption if ever there was one. I can’t believe how much money my parents fork out for those things. And they aren’t that good.

Now that the Boomers are getting to that certain age, they will demand improvement. And at current prices, for governments to pay for it. Which means the price will never fall. Make Hearing Aids better, and cheaper. And the oldies and otherwise hearing impaired will beat a path to your door, Apple.

I’ve been saying for years that Apple should make hearing aids, it’s a very high margin market that Apple would do so well in, they would be disruptive.

$300 airPods versus $3000 hearing aids… I wonder how it will work out.

I use the current AirPod Pro model as a substitute hearing aid. When I set them up I put picture of my audiogram in and the software read it and programmed them. I find the noise cancellation works much much better for my condition than the very expensive top of the line hearing aids I got form an audiologist. The major drawback is the battery life and the volume is not always loud enough for my borderline severe loss. They can work quite well for those with mild to moderate loss.
