Got mine but they’re going back. Sound just isn’t rich/full enough. I have a pair of Beats X that sound better to me. I’m going to try the Powerbeats Pro. Maybe those will be closer to my Beats X sound. Shame though because I loved everything else about them. 😕

Clearly the people using and loving AirPods like all the other things about them and don’t care as much about sound quality. I know it’s a subjective thing but to my ears the sound wasn’t good enough for the price.

I have the Powerbeats Pro. They have an excellent soundstage, especially when used with an EQ app to raise the bass levels. Prior to getting them, I used the Powerbeats 3, which are definitely tuned for more bass output than the Pro, but lack the sound separation.

but do they suction in the way in-ear ones usually do, or do they just "stay in better"? cause i have no issues with the current airpods as far as staying in, so that won't be a selling point at all)

thank you, i do! that and purell! :)

I'm not sure if they suction in although there are two vent-like thingies on each one so maybe that has something to do with it.

I will say this after listening to some post-rock for awhile on them now: the sound quality is superb. I was hesitant in buying them but now I'm very glad I did. The sound is well-balanced and prominent. Well done Apple.

Pure ear wax? LOL!!!!

Oh? The new AirPod pros have swappable tips but anything before now did not. So how can they swap out something that wasn't swappable until now?

One question. How do you control music when wearing a hoodie? With Airpods gen 1 I just tap over hoodie.

I was in my first line in years at an Apple Store today. At my suburban store there were about ten of us waiting. The one in the city had a line around the block, I hear.

They sound great, for semi-closed buds. The noise cancellation is pretty incredible. Went to a noisy Whole Foods and shopped while experimenting. The squeeze to toggle between noise cancelation and "transparency" works really well. At the cashier, I clicked once to cut off Music, then squeezed to hear her.

The controls are different. I have tapped a couple of times, but I will get used to it. I'll be keeping my standard pair for using around home, but taking my Pros out on the street and to the gym.

How do you squeeze while outside in the cold weather wearing hoodie or hat?

Would like to hear them first before dropping $250 they are so small most stores won't have them out on display.

that's good, because the old apple in-ear headphones drove me crazy 'cause they would pop out almost instantly. these tips look about the same, so i was skeptical, but if they just kind of sit there, i will probably be ok with that. regardless, my gen1 are almost completely dead and i would really like new ones, and really don't want to get gen2 at this point... if they came out with regular-shaped gen3 alongside of these - i'd get them, but hey...

The old ones which you refer to drove me bat-sh** crazy for the same reason you cited: constantly popping out. I've tried everything I can think of to dislodge these new Pros and was not able to do so. Again, the sound quality is superb for in-ear wireless buds.

No other functionality issues?
I ask as someone who is also on 12.4

Negative. The only missing items I can confirm is Airpod controls (transparency or noise cancellation) via control center directly on the phone, the ear tip sound test (tells you if you have a good seal or need to change your tips), and the connection animation.

Because you can control the air pod mode via the stem, you're not missing any of the sound functionality.

Edit: also "hey siri" works.

that's great to know! i did just read a comment here though that made me really sad - they taps will no longer work. if you look at the old vs. new airpod customization - the pros are much more limited than the amateur ones :( this is weird... i'm so used to the clumsy taps

Good to hear… Even makes me wonder if some of that might come via jailbreak tweak to 12.4 users

Do you find like me the AirPods 2nd gen are louder and more punchy the new ones are good but side by side I like the sound in the old ones, the new ones are cleaner sounding but not as loud

I have the 1st Gen, so I don't know how gen 2 sounds like. I like the Pros much more then 1st Gen

been reading up on reviews.
cancelled my order. i think the airpods gen2 work well for what i need. i guess i'm not about that PRO life.

One, I know the options. Two, whining? Really? You interpret "I'm underwhelmed" as whining? (I'll assume the troll mention refers to yourself.)

yes I’m the troll, but you really don’t see this as whining? Self reflection is key. I’ve done it. When will you?

How's the sound quality?

PS: I wasn't going to buy them but I did anyway. (I know, hypocrite!). The old AirPods would never stay in my ears no matter what. I can affirm that no matter what I try to do with these new ones, they won't eject themselves from my ears. Great fit.
I think the sound quality is pretty good. Certainly as good as the AirPods, but with the noise cancellation on I think it’s better simply because there is less to distract you.

How is the fit? More secure than the regular Airpods?
Oh yes the fit is much better. They just do not move at all. I’ve never had a problem with my AirPods, but could easily shake them out of my ears if I wanted to. I can’t do that at all with these. Gym people, runners etc will love them.
