Just picked mine up after they were delivered to a shop for me. First impressions are very favourable indeed from a sound quality perspective. I tried the normal AirPods and disliked them greatly but these seem to be perfect.

Can an owner of these perform a test for me? Go into a quiet room. Connect them and turn noise cancellation on. Don’t play any sound. Wait five minutes. Do you hear any buzz or mild thump sound?

Some noise cancellation headsets have issues with prolonged silence. Hard to find reviews that do this test.

I was stunned when I put them in my ears. ANC is amazing for the size of the product. I have Sony over-ears and the noise cancellation between AirPods Pro and the XM1002's are very similar. Quite impressive. Size reduction is nice, feel in the ear is nice. Very pleased

Just got mine...and I'm in love! ANC is really impressive and they feel more comfortable than the usual airpods (which I also liked a lot). The only thing that I think got worse is that right now you have to squeeze the Airpod to skip tracks or play/pause. It doesn't work every time for me; I guess I have to get used to squeeze it in the right place. It was easier with the previous generation just to tap anywhere on the airpod to skip/play/pause tracks.

Again, no word on audio quality. Same with Gruber's review this morning. It's like there's some sort of conspiracy...

I was in my first line in years at an Apple Store today. At my suburban store there were about ten of us waiting. The one in the city had a line around the block, I hear.

They sound great, for semi-closed buds. The noise cancellation is pretty incredible. Went to a noisy Whole Foods and shopped while experimenting. The squeeze to toggle between noise cancelation and "transparency" works really well. At the cashier, I clicked once to cut off Music, then squeezed to hear her.

The controls are different. I have tapped a couple of times, but I will get used to it. I'll be keeping my standard pair for using around home, but taking my Pros out on the street and to the gym.
Do they get as loud as the regular Airpods?

Got mine but they’re going back. Sound just isn’t rich/full enough. I have a pair of Beats X that sound better to me. I’m going to try the Powerbeats Pro. Maybe those will be closer to my Beats X sound. Shame though because I loved everything else about them. 😕

Clearly the people using and loving AirPods like all the other things about them and don’t care as much about sound quality. I know it’s a subjective thing but to my ears the sound wasn’t good enough for the price.

Have to say, I'm a little ... underwhelmed that they're now available to walk in and get, while mine, ordered on launch day, have not yet shipped.

I don’t like to speak on audio quality because there are people that know WAY more than I do. Audio quality isn’t my number one point of reference for headphones as I can’t tell a different in a lot of things. For me it’s about noise cancelling and comfort. As long as they sound good to me, I’m happy, but my opinion on audio quality is pretty useless if I’m honest. To me they sound good, so take that as you will.

That's part of it. The sound isn't as good as other devices, but I love that I can go on a run with them and my watch. No phone required. I like that I can use just one also.

2 options:
Either cancel the order and go into the store or...
Be quicker to order on preorder day.

Neither of those options include whining about why you don't have them yet.

It sounds a little better than the 2nd gen AirPods to me (which I literally just lost yesterday). I've only listened to the AirPod Pro's for about 45 min but I can definitely hear the bass a bit more. I don't think the audio quality is leagues better than the AirPods but I would say maybe 15-20% better?

Do they get as loud as the regular Airpods?

I think they get 90-95% as loud, BUT with the NC on, I feel the 90-95% is louder than the 2nd gen airpods at 100% since it blocks a lot of the outside noise.

PS: I wasn't going to buy them but I did anyway. (I know, hypocrite!). The old AirPods would never stay in my ears no matter what. I can affirm that no matter what I try to do with these new ones, they won't eject themselves from my ears. Great fit.

but do they suction in the way in-ear ones usually do, or do they just "stay in better"? cause i have no issues with the current airpods as far as staying in, so that won't be a selling point at all)

Try ons? You have bal*s! Think: gobs of others' ear wax.

thank you, i do! that and purell! :)

Mine just arrived and I really like them. The ANC is impressive. They definitely fit better than AP1. No worries about them just falling out. I also did a pillow test since I go to sleep most nights listening to podcasts. These are more comfortable. I mostly listen to podcasts with buds so to test them I played a couple songs. My 60 year old ears didn't notice any quality difference compared to the first generation.

Honestly, that's always been the case (I'm an AP1 user and I love them)..
It's much more about the complete package and usability and convenience, etc.

Federico Viticci thinks they sound great.

Which is fine - we all have opinions..

But please remember that Federico is even further up the Apple tree than Rene Ritchie
(which would seem impossible, but it's true)

Gotta pay that apple tax.
They sound a lot like some Bose noise cancelling I’ve tried. Listening to them again it’s probably just me who prefers a bit more bassy sound. Which is probably why I prefer the sound of my Beats X.

I’ve never thought that though maybe he’s changed since he got to interview Craig Federighi. As far as I know Rene Ritchie has never gotten an interview with an Apple SVP.

I’ve been listening to the AirPods Pro more, especially podcasts and the sound is very good. And everything else is so slick. The minute you pop one in the ear they’re connected. No button pressing. The minute you pop them out whatever else you had connected reconnects. I think I’m going to keep them. When I’m really in a music listening mode I‘m usually at home and then I’ll just put on my Audio Technica over the ear cans.

I picked mine up about 40 minutes ago. I paired them with my SE as soon as I left the Apple store. There was a line of people picking up and buying the new AirPods Pro. I was told it has been selling well all day.

First impressions

Pairing was quick. All I had to do was open the lid. And in a matter of seconds, I was good to go. I used to stock tips that were already on the pods while walking out of the Mall to my car. The first was very comfortable in the ears; a lot more than my AirPods 2. Noise cancellation is excellent. I will have to test some of the other tips to see which ones fit best for cancellation. While it didn't cancel every single sound, it was well about 95%. Turning the ANC on. and off was as easy as lightly holding the pressing the bottom part of the pod until you hear a chime.

The sound is much better than the AirPods 2, in regards to clarity of individual sounds and tones. Much better than the Powerbeats Pro I returned (when I first got them).

Announce with Siri did not come up during the setup. However, the option toggle was there in Messages, whereas it never would show with the AirPods 2.

I am charging them in the case at the moment.

Thus far, I am very happy.

Picked up mine today during lunch. It's raining here so the mall was pretty dead. The Apple Store more dead. They even have a stack of Airpod Pros sitting on an end table letting you know that there's plenty available. Apple seemed prepared this time.

Okay, I'll be getting them at Best Buy. Any chance they're discounted on Black Friday? If not I'll order now.
You are only a month from Black Friday so why not wait unless you need it now. You may be able to do a search and see if there is a BF preview in the coming weeks.

I pickup mine in store this morning. First impression is the noise cancellation is really good and impressive. Blocked out most if not all of the general mall noise and going to the other transparent mode is almost shocking. Sound quality good but I'm admittedly not an audiophile. Good fit with the pre-installed ear tips so no need to change. And for those select few that care about such things, almost full functionality on 12.4. Only thing missing is the popup graphic.
