I do not understand why this product is so popular... it Beats me. :D
I honestly don't either. I remember prior to them being announced I literally said, "I wish Apple would just come out with wireless versions of their Earpods." I had in mind a "neckbud" style with a cord between, so when they announced them I thought, "OMG, they just released exactly what I wanted. It's perfect."

I thought I was the only oddball that wanted these. I was shocked that they were in such high demand.
I was even skeptical when I got them, that I wouldn't like them as much as I hoped, but they did, in fact, love them. The only thing I wish was different is that they had higher sound quality. They aren't great performers of the high end otherwise pretty good.

Some kind of on-device volume control would be nice, but I don't really miss it. Tap to pause/play is enough.

If you don’t mind losing Siri on them you can have one AirPod control volume up and the other AirPod control volume down on tap.

If I had to find one, my only gripe with AirPods is I find that tap gesture relatively hard to trigger. Generally end up drilling an AirPod into my ear cavity somewhat. It’s not a huge issue for me as I usually Hey Siri off the Watch nowadays, but I would love to see these updated with something more like a capacitive touch back panel to trigger that tap more gently, which would also enable a slide gesture that you mentioned.

I bet the issue in testing this would be that a slide up or down gesture on the AirPod would loosen them from the users ear.

Try a triple tap. Works more consistently for me.

my best buy got a random shipment of 15. Happened to walk in and be there. Right time right place so I bought a pair.

Same thing to us, for my wife's pair. Guy said it was the first time he'd seen them in the store.
Was told they had been getting random one or two over the last few months but that this was the first time a huge shipment came in.

A year after they were supposed to debut they still cannot ship them immediately? I don't know what is happening at Apple lately. As for updating the Airpods. They're great unless you want to listen to them somewhere other than in total silence. If there is other noise, they're useless and simply are not loud enough. $99 would make them a so-so deal if they could be shipped same day. As usual, Apple figures out a good deal price, doubles it, and sells the product for that price instead.
The product you are asking for doesn't exist in the market now. Truely wireless headphones with noise canceling capability and they should be in ear head phones.
AirPods are the cheapest wireless headphones, compare price to Dash & Samsung.
Airpods were supposed to be wireless in ear headphones with decent battery life. They didn't want to compete with Bose when they designed these headphones.

The Apple Store at Infinite Loop has plenty there on the shelves. I know that's not "around the corner" for many people but thought it's worth mentioning for those that might be in the neighborhood. Also, here in Australia, JB Hi-Fi (kind of like Best Buy) has them in stock on store shelves. Walk in, give money, walk out with AirPods.

I'm curious about the problems with switching. What do you have to do to make it work?
Problem is disconnecting from ATV & connecting them back to phone. I had to impair them from ATV, when I am home sometimes they connect to ATV instead of the phone.

I decided to check my nearby store around 10:00am this morning ET (before this story was posted), and was very pleasantly surprised to find they had AirPods in stock! So I now, finally have a pair.

After a run-through of Pink Floyd's The Endless River, I'm of the opinion that they are every bit worth the hype as well as the money.

Is this all evidence that they have been stockpiling the AirPods for a bundle package of some sort with the new iPhones? Has there ever been a product that Apple has produced that has had zero improvement in shipping in almost a year? One would expect a slow ramp up of production, but the AirPods shipping time never improved from the outset until the past month. It is only recently that the shipping times improved. I can't recall any product like that, especially one in such high demand. The fact that they are only now becoming available in a reasonable time would correspond with Apple having reached the necessary millions stockpiled to offer as a bundle, perhaps in an additional color.

We will soon find out.

It's an interesting thought but there's a much stronger explanation: their margins are minimal to nothing on this product, so why would they rush to sell more when they make no profit? Another issue, once we have anchored to this price point, it's hard to raise the price for future models.

Hahahaha...absolutely not.

Have you even looked around, apart from at Apple? You can pick them up at a lot of big retailers here in the UK. I dunno where you are, but John Lewis have had stock for months now. They only seem to be sold out at Apple. I think you'll find if you look at big chain tech stores, you'll find somewhere that's got plenty of stock.

People keep talking about AirPods Series 2 but honestly what would they add? The product doesn't need updating. Can't see Apple touching these again for a couple of years. It's just not that kind of product.
- Slightly battery life with our new W2 Chip (like 10 minutes more of runtime)
- Auto low power mode
- Smart Noise Reduction
- New Gestures
- New colours

Don’t underestimate what us magicians at Apple can do!

For the past couple months since I got mine from Best Buy, I go in there and they always have stock. Today I was there and counted 10 of them in stock.

Yesterday, I walked into an AT&T store and purchased Apple AirPods. They had two in stock. For some reason AT&T has them in stock. If you go online they shipping in 1 to 2 days.

I walked into the Apple Store in Providence, RI and walked out with a pair tonight. They work great!

good news. Airpods are the most magical product apple has released in years and its good to know I can get new ones rather quickly if my current ones get lost.

They won't release new colours, 10 minutes extra battery life isn't worth it, new gestures aren't necessary. 'Low power mode' and smart noise reduction don't seem like a good reason to update them when so many people have only just managed to get their hands on them.

Apple won't update AirPods for at least a couple years.

Jet Black AirPods Series 2 next week please.

I think they ought to make some more colors, but I don't think it is necessary to make a new version of the AirPods with a W2 chip.
The first gen in jet black and maybe red to match their iPhone would be ok. I'm not fond of white EarPods, having a pair matching your iPhone color would be great and wouldn't cost them much to make.

Honestly, I don't like the strategy entering market with products that are actually not ready to market - meaning being heavily restricted due to production shortages. Ear Pod success might have been a surprise, but I doubt. To me it just seems to be the overall strategy, best seen with the new iPhones presented every year.

I only bought my AirPods the week before last, and I have to say, I too have fallen in love with them. Its hard to describe why people who own them, love them so much. For me, I attend conference calls many times a day in my job (and also work from home) so I can freely walk around my house, sometimes doing other things, whilst still listening and participating to the call. The range is superb, I can leave my phone in the front bedroom and the signal only begins to break up once I'm in the back garden.

Then in the evenings they become my music companion when I take a walk down to the beach, phone tucked away in a pocket. Or lying on the sofa, no wires to untangle, no phone to hold on to, and no matter what angle I'm at they never fall out or even move out of place.

Connection is instant, the tiny case securely holds them in with magnets, battery life is excellent. One of my fave Apple products!

Apple Store app shows them as available now at my local store. Maybe your local Apple Store has them too!
