Mine seem to have the worst of the battery case issues. Went to bed at 84%, woke up at 68%. The AirPods inside were at 100% the entire time.
The pods dont "stay" at 100%, they are actually draining and then being refilled from the case.

They are overpriced, all wireless headphones are. It isn't just the Apple headphones.

Most of us could probably "afford" to pay that much for headphones. That's not it, Apple realizes there are ppl gullible enough to over pay for their product accessories, just so they can flaunt it around to everyone they know. It is a status symbol to many. And yes I know some ppl are willing to pay for quality also. But I believe it is mainly for vanity purposes.

From what I understand, you're basically saying, "The suppliers and buyers are both wrong here, but I am right because I know the real price the market should be selling at, because you know...I said so. The fact that that the market exists, and continues to exist is irrelevant because the only voice that matters here is mine".

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Same here. I ended up getting the Bose Soundsports and definitely love them. I really dig the idea of a charging case like the Airpods, but there's no way they'd stay in my tiny ears.

Amused by the idea that they're massively overpriced. Ideally perhaps $10-20 less would make them competitive against other BT headsets but then again they don't have a real competitor in the market so even that is hard to claim.

I can't help but think that people are reasoning that because they're small and simple, they should be cheap...

As for the person who said they're a prototype... could have also argued that for the Apple II. The iPhone 1, come to that. On that basis, why bother innovating anything at all?

Wish I could wear in-ear speakers. I must have some sort of misshapen ears because the slightest movement, such as breathing, causes them to fall out.

It's over ear for me, I'm afraid.

Amazon has a ton of accessories available, including slip-on hooks and connecting cords. I bought a set of silicone cords but they are too short. I ended up connecting the two together for a longer cord that works its my fat head. :D

Just got mines two days ago. I test the battery for and after 24 hours I had 42 percent left, so as Apple said
I have enough for 24 hours before recharge. A lot depends on how much you use them and return them
to the case after each use for recharge.

All of the other players in the wireless earbud market cost more money and in many if not most cases sound worse than AirPods and have major connectivity issues. If you knew what you were talking about you'd be talking about brands like JayBird, Braghi and a $200-$250+ price point...but you're not so I know you don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah. They're grrrreat!!

With that bit of sarcasm over I'll carry on. The fact that you don't know any of the brands I've posted suggests you have no idea of this topic. Jaybird is a cheap consumer product.

I already suggested that if you're happy with this product, that's not my concern and I'm happy for you. You should do what makes you happy but just accept not everyone will agree.

I'll maintain they sound garbage but the technology behind them is bang on. They just need to be applied to a great set of cans.

I could be wrong, but I think you are not understand what the post is talking about.

I think the post is saying that the case battery is draining too fast. The AirPods are already charged.

What BS. Likely just part of the normal ramp up. Airpods are great but Apple dripped too few pair into the market just days before Xmas. Of course people are still looking for these. Different story if Apple had dumped millions in early Dec on time and there was still huge demand on 12/30.

As far as pricing goes the AirPods are one of the few h/w items in Apple's catalog that are in line with competitors AND they are a better product than the competition to boot. Show me a decent pair of 100% wireless buds under $150. Heck, even acceptable BT buds w/ a connecting cable start at $129 -- maybe on sale for $99 on occasion.

Plantronics backbeat. Very rugged for working out and good sound quality. Got mine for less than 75. Its with the cable connecting from behind though. I feel the Airpods are priced well though. Not sure about the sound quality as am yet to try it. Most say it's at par with the EarPods which would be a shame.

I took my AirPods back - I bought two sets together on the 19th December for my wife and I on xmas day. I noticed the battery drain on mine all day on the 25th so I googled and nothing, then a couple of days ago info started to surface with people having the same issues...

Fast forward to this morning and I changed my AirPods and refunded my wifes (They fall out of her ears). I have just charged them and I am hoping these are better. When I spoke to the Apple Rep he seemed to think the 24 hours of battery time is standby time. I said so you expect everyone to charge their AirPods every night and he said yes.. I said its 24 hours listening time not standby time yet everyone in the shop agreed with each other and made out I had got it all wrong.. Go figure! They did finally allow me to change the AirPods though. Talk about poor training!

Could you elaborate more on the falling out of ears part. This was normal walking or running? I have seen many videos but didn't see anyone actually running with it. That is my only worry.

They are definitely shipping quicker. I was in the 4-week group (Jan 12), and this AM they are preparing to ship, just the day after I was able to pick up a pair at a local Apple Store. I waited a night to figure out whether I had a clearly defective pair, and by the time I tried to cancel my online order, it was too late.

I think that the sound is fine in a quiet location, and, yes, I know what good headphones sound like. As for the charging issue, I don't have a case that goes down 40% in a few hours, but over 12-18 hours, they can go down 15-20% if you keep opening and closing the case to check. My guess is that they go into some sort of standby mode when the case is opened (which connects them to my phone), and even if you leave the Airpods in the case, they get slowly discharged, and then recharged, by the case, which obviously impacts the charge of the case. At least that's what I observed. One hour, one Airpod was done 5%; the next hour, it was back to 100% and the other Airpod was down 5%, and now they are both back to 100%. That's the price of no on-off switch.

Apple has historically always under promoted water resistance, because they don't want to warranty it, but their devices are far more water resistant than they actually tout.

OK, but you've practically spun them as waterproof in your post by getting after the guy worried about sweat... implying that since there's proof of them being submerged in water and going through the wash, why should anyone worry about a little sweat.

I think the guy's worry is valid. Water- which includes sweat- is an enemy of non-waterproof electronics. A video that involves them working right after being pulled out of water but with no followup after the water gets a chance to generate some rust doesn't resolve that worry. It just deceives fellow consumers who might be gullible enough to read such a post or watch such a video and decide that this product is waterproof or water resistant... even if Apple themselves make no such claims.

If you work for Apple and your job is to mitigate any objections with marketing spin, good job. But if you are not employed by them, you just deceive your fellow consumers by implying benefits that are not actually there.

I went to my local Apple store and tried them on yesterday - apparently, their sanitizing procedures are quite thorough - but it's what I was afraid of: they fall out. I think they'll be fine for most people, but MOST earbuds fall out of my ears. That's just the way it is. And that's my only complaint, the "one size fits all" aspect of the earpods/airpods. They may be fine for most people, but some of us have differently shaped ear canals. I wish there were some kind of rubber ring or something I could affix to them, but I don't think they would fit in the carrying case then. I was really hoping they would fit me, but they don't. It's a little like the shininess of the iPhones, which I would never carry around without a case or a bumper, they are just too slippery. If the AirPods had a rubbery or rougher surface, they might stay in better.

that should really help with those quality control issues :)

how about much better audio quality, much better battery life and sweat proof for the same price? I actually prefer the cable

A few points
1) Audio quality is very subjective. I'm 30% deaf due to drumming in a Rock band in the late 1960's/early 1970's. I also hate too much Bass as you get in most modern stuff.
2) Apple isn't forcing you to buy them. Neither is Bragi or any other device maker.
3) If In ear devices don't work for you then fine. That is just your ears being the wrong shape for them.
4) I hate in ear devices wired or not, but I don't rant on sites like this about it. YMMV exists for a reason.

That said, I think these devices are different from just about anything else on the market (shows how little I know then). They shout 'Apple' all over. Some other things that Apple have released in recent years do not do that.

I know the brands you mentioned. However, they've never been major players in the wireless earbuds market. You cherry picked the worst Jaybirds well actually all of them are terrible even the ones I bought which cost me upwards of $150US. Either way you still missed the point. The point is I said comparable wireless earbuds are priced at around $200-$250+. AirPods are fairly priced for what you get. I know I've owned the gamut. You just brought up Senheiser and other non players like it means something when they aren't major players in the wireless earbuds market.

I hate to be "that guy", but didn't Apple see the buzz for these things? They were always going to be enormous. I wanted to get a pair for my wife for her birthday, got delayed. Wanted to get it for her for Christmas, but I didn't order them within the first 15 minutes of availability so that was done. Now I am hoping for Valentine's Day. Thanks Tim.
No, they didn't see the buzz. They always planned to release them just a week before Christmas and in only very limited quantities.

They didn't fit my wife's ears well and they seemed loose. They are fine in my ears, they don't move at all. Can't even feel they are there. I workout in the gym and run without issue.

My wife is the only one who struggled with them out of everyone in my family.

This sounds like me. I am partially deaf in both ears and have tinnitus from my military days.

Voice speaking frequencies are the worse for me, so I have to turn up the volume for these purposes. When I do, the bass is too much for my ears, and it is hard to fine a balance.

I do not own the AirPods, but I was considering them at one point. I really like the EarPods, because they fit my ears really well, and mostly because they sound really good. I can understand phone calls, and music sounds almost perfect with my disability.

Many other headphone/headsets I have tried have too much bass to me. It is sometimes painful on my once perforated eardrums.

So, like you said, audio quality is very subjective. I have not had a chance to try the AirPods audio quality, but if it is anything like EarPods, I would probably like it.

It's funny how Apple MAKES you buy them by removing the connection on the iPhone. I'm happy with my Parrot Zik 2.0 and Bragi.

People are seriously buying these things?

I'd buy them if they were $20, I might even go as high as $50, but there's no way I'd pay what they're asking.

For reference, I paid $15 for my current Plantronics bluetooth headset, and for what I need it's very much good enough - and it's got a clip that goes over my ear to keep it in place.

If I'm making a phone call, I really only need one ear. If I'm listening to music, I want something better than earbuds.
