Plantronics backbeat. ...Its with the cable connecting from behind though. I feel the Airpods are priced well though. Not sure about the sound quality as am yet to try it. Most say it's at par with the EarPods which would be a shame.

Yes, but I specifically said 100% wireless. If they have a wire it not truly comparable. I have Jaybird Freedom F5s and Airpods so I can compare between the two varieties - both BT, both great. Airpods w/o wire feel more "natural" though I realize they don't stay in all ears. Airpods sound great for BT buds and its price range. No shame at all or I know at least I would have returned them.

In 2016, Apple introduced the Next Big Thing in tech, and only a few noticed.

They're perfectly priced, too, as the very strong demand implies.

After having these for a couple of weeks now I'm actually thinking Apple has created a new category of "wearable" computing. They are so damn convenient that I don't want to take them off.

The Watch combined with AirPods is absolutely glorious... it feels like the future.

I think Apple is onto something here. These are MUCH more than "just" headphones...

I'll be honest here, the AirPods are truly the most "Apple" product released in the past 3 years. Charging is dead simple, taking them with you is easy and using them is as quick as putting them in your ear. Still missing features (volume control being the biggest one), but look at iPhone, iPad and iPod - all missing competitors features (At least in gen 1), but doing what they need to do very well.

No, they aren't the best sound quality wise in-ear, fully wireless bud, but they are definitely the most convenient. I have a pair of Jaybird X3's that haven't been used once since my AirPods came in, they are going to be heading to eBay soon. For me if I am wanting to experience music fully I don't use in ear buds, I'll use my cans or stereo system for that. Buds are for taking with you everywhere and are much more utilitarian in use for me (voice calls, podcasts, youtube, etc.)

I think they were a good product for Apple. Someone needed to simplify the pairing process, and I'm glad they were successful. It shows that Apple's engineers are still top notch, even though they have a buffoon of a CEO.

The only thing I wish is that they shipped with a USC-C connector instead of just USB. Since Apple decided to remove all USBs from there laptops, just makes sense there products start being aligned. That would have been real courage.

And sell them for a sensible price.....

It is a sensible price for a pair of earbuds comparable to others that are price a lot higher. If you own Apple stuff, you know this is not such a bad price. Would you rather they charged $299 for them like the Bragi Dash? Then you'd probably burn down Apple Headquarters for that right? o_O

It's funny how Apple MAKES you buy them by removing the connection on the iPhone. I'm happy with my Parrot Zik 2.0 and Bragi.

The connection is still there, included free adapter, but the AirPods of course have a lot of visibility because they are marketed alongside the iPhone.

They are overpriced, all wireless headphones are. It isn't just the Apple headphones.

Most of us could probably "afford" to pay that much for headphones. That's not it, Apple realizes there are ppl gullible enough to over pay for their product accessories, just so they can flaunt it around to everyone they know. It is a status symbol to many. And yes I know some ppl are willing to pay for quality also. But I believe it is mainly for vanity purposes.
Ya know, that's getting to be a REALLY tired meme.

If you had a better job, you could afford these. They are very reasonably priced.

I'd love to get a clear picture of the sales figures.

Why. What would you do with that information.

I'd return and swap them regardless. Didn't buy a prototype at that price.

My "prototype" is working just fine.

What BS. Likely just part of the normal ramp up.

So you are now the Apple production expert. How cute.

i might wait until shipping slips down to less then a week before i order. I'm still on the fence with these things.

If you are like me and use them all the time then you wont be disappointed with them at all great for answering calls with one AirPod instead putting your handset to your ear

I took my AirPods back - I bought two sets together on the 19th December for my wife and I on xmas day. I noticed the battery drain on mine all day on the 25th so I googled and nothing, then a couple of days ago info started to surface with people having the same issues...

Fast forward to this morning and I changed my AirPods and refunded my wifes (They fall out of her ears). I have just charged them and I am hoping these are better. When I spoke to the Apple Rep he seemed to think the 24 hours of battery time is standby time. I said so you expect everyone to charge their AirPods every night and he said yes.. I said its 24 hours listening time not standby time yet everyone in the shop agreed with each other and made out I had got it all wrong.. Go figure! They did finally allow me to change the AirPods though. Talk about poor training!
Everything I read clearly stated 24 hours was the charger-case's ability to recharge the AirPods without requiring charging itself. FIVE hours was the battery-life (listening) for the AirPods themselves.

This.

This is explicitly what Apple has stated, both in the keynote and on the AirPods webpage.

Why tech "journalists" are illiterate is beyond me.

Tech geeks will rush out to buy them....it's a limited market.
I ended up buying a pair of SE215's which stay firmly in my ears. I now use a cheap pair of wireless Anker earbuds. They cost me $30 and sound the same as the Apple Airpods in terms of quality.

Iv'e tried many Anker Wirless earbuds and they all sounded hideous when compared to the worst wired headphones. I have trouble (based on reviews) the Ankers sound anywhere near like the AirPods.

When did Apple say they'd be licensing the W1? I see squawking tech "journalists" all over the place saying they should, but I haven't seen anything from Apple.
Why would they?
They've got a superior ball right now, why should they give it to the other team?

I agree entirely, I don't see any reason they should, but that hasn't stopped tech "journalists" all over the place insisting that Apple should do the heavy lifting for the entire tech industry.

Yeah. They're grrrreat!!

With that bit of sarcasm over I'll carry on. The fact that you don't know any of the brands I've posted suggests you have no idea of this topic. Jaybird is a cheap consumer product.

I already suggested that if you're happy with this product, that's not my concern and I'm happy for you. You should do what makes you happy but just accept not everyone will agree.

I'll maintain they sound garbage but the technology behind them is bang on. They just need to be applied to a great set of cans.

Dude, you are willing to listen to wireless Ankers. Every pair Iv'e tried sound like a distant FM radio station at best.

I just have to wait until February to get them...

Go sign up for the local availability text alert tool this guy built and linked to in this thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/machookup-airpods-stock-alerts.2024242/

I set myself up yesterday morning, and saw availability pop up several times at stores that were just a little farther than I cared to drive to, but a couple hours in, I got an alert for my local store. Hopped on line and held them for pickup and had them by lunch time.

Please check your post again. You also compared the ones with cables at the back and their lowest prices.

I just demoed the Airpods. After a quick rundown on them by the salesperson and 30 seconds of listening, I said sold. Unfortunately, the daily allotment was gone. As the regulars here know, I am not an Apple fanboy, but if I like something, I say so.

This is a cool product, so light and easy to use. The charging case is a neat piece of tech. The function of the pods is slick. Take one out of your ear, the music pauses. Put it back in, play resumes. If these would pair with my Sony TV, I would be very happy, they would be great for late TV watching and not disturbing anyone. They are so light they were almost unnoticeable. Apple hit a home run with these.

No doubt they're not for everyone, but if you're the least bit curious, go check them out. I hope they add black in the near future.
