I mean how did people ever live life without all these trackers and constant information bombardment.
It’s legitimately stupid, potentially evil, and subjects the whole world to becoming an A.I. tracking map. I feel like we should have convened a federal privacy panel before this was even allowed to be just because of the pervasiveness of iPhone. I mean, the potentials for a secret nefarious use cases is more likely than not. WTF is law enforcement planning on doing with this was my first thought.

My biggest question is… what happens when you step on a train and there are 42 AirTags around? Does your phone blow up with notifications? I just hate, hate, hate this because it isn’t just YOU who owns an AirTag, it’s a form of community property that will become toxic garbage for generations. The world did not need an AirTag.

How do these fit into their so-called environmental initiatives?

I just got a text from DPD saying that my package will arrive tomorrow (30th) and offering me to book my 1 hour slot?

Anyone else had this? Nothing else has updated. Weird as I’ve never had this from DPD before, they usually just give you a 1 hour slot?

There are already several 3D printing plans for AirTag holders on Thingiverse, if anybody with a 3D printer is interested.

Just had a DPD email for tomorrow, my favourite courier for time slots :)

I would suggest looking into how they work a bit closer.

1. Randoms won't receive notifications if the AirTag owner is currently with the AirTag.
2. In the event an AirTag is separated from it's owner in public (e.g. someone leaves their bag on a train), it still doesn't notify random people on the train. The anti-stalking feature that alerts someone of an unwanted airtag only alerts them when they arrive at a place of interest (like their home) as defined in their iPhone settings with the airtag in tow.

Weird! I didn’t get an email. Just that text asking me to pick a time slot? Literally never had that before. Is it normal? Always wary or clicking on text links…

Never had an option like that with DPD, I always get notified the day before and they auto select a time slot on the day of delivery.

What do you mean they are "not supported" for car use? What does that even mean? A car is an item that can be tracked. Does Apple have a list of "supported" things you can attach them to?
Yes they do. When you first connect the AirTag to your iPhone, the setup process has you choose what item the AirTag is gonna be attached to. From a pre-determined list.

My engraved set of 4 changed to shipped status yesterday evening and are arriving here in the south of Japan May 3rd. Seems like they ship them straight from Shanghai, China to this region.

Speaking as a professional Hitman, these are the perfect size and shape for tossing into a corner to draw the attention of a patrolling guard right before I… umm, give him a deep tissue neck massage. Plus, if I miss my opportunity, I can just track them until I get it back!

I’ll never have to lose another ICA Outstanding Performance Coin ever again.

I’m now an old fart and sometimes I lose my car in parking lots. I’d put one in my glove box.
Yes, I might do the same.
The iPhone Map application can tell you where you parked your car. No need for Airtag.

No Bluetooth in our car.

I wish the emoji engraving was a little more open - say the key, backpack and car emojis would’ve been nice to indicate where it’s for. Not sure the usefulness of putting a cow or a heart on a tracking tag.
Yeah cos you're meant to use an Apple Watch to track your cow.

Apple put out a statement that they are not supporting the use of the Airtags to prevent car theft. That means you can't blame or sue them if the thief disables the Airtag once they hear the beeping.
Who mentioned theft? They don't support tracking a stolen anything. They would still be perfectly capable of helping you find a lost car though.

That said, someone else said Maps' built in car locating feature only works if your phone's connected to the over bluetooth. Is this true? I thought they used motion data to work out when you were driving and stored the place you stopped? Might be thinking of something else though.

Because it's silly to complain about a keychain loop not being built in if other companies offer it and are better, right?
Wrong.

Product A has some pros and some cons. Product B has some pros and some cons. It's not silly to complain about the cons in either product, even if it's your preferred product on the whole. Especially when it's a really stupid con like this, which is either a very cynical money-grubbing move or the epitome of style-over-substance.

They have replaceable batteries, they're not disposable.

I've no idea what sort of dystopia you're envisaging here but I don't think it's plausible. Can you give us some examples of nefarious use-cases? I really don't see what use this is to dodgy law enforcement agencies, and no, when you step on a train that doesn't happen apparently if the owner is with the item.

Will be cutting circles out of the millions of unused iPhone 4/5/6plus/7plus/8plus/blah blah film screen protectors I have and using them to cover the SS on my tags

Same.

They've always been reliable for me, almost always arriving 5 minutes before the upper limit.
