The 8 is fundamentally different in numerous ways. You aren't keeping up with rumors if you think they are similar.

Yeah, my bad... Just saw the thread from earlier. I used to be much more on the ball with my rumor updates; I'll go back to a read only member for another few years! :D:p

Such bullcrap! Every forward-thinking tech user wants USB-C all around. Not Lightning. Not USB-A. And we want USB-C headphones or Airpods in box. Enough with this anti-consumerism, Apple! My goodness.
Maybe I'm not forward-thinking. But I'm certainly a tech guy. And no way I don't want Apple to abandon USB-A. It has way much importance at this time. (And my new Surface Book doesn't have a USB-C slot).

Also LOL if you think Apple will get rid of Lightning. Apple needs that extra $$$.

Air Pods in the box? You’ve got to be joking. Headphones aren’t required to operate the device. Makes no sense to put expensive headphones in the box. Especially when people who care about good headphones would probably use something else instead.

Wow, today's iPhone news just gets worse and worse. The wireless adapter being separate is expected...but why include the crappy 5w charger when we have fast charging...

That's weird tho because just a while ago we heard that the iPhone 8 would have fast charging and come with a USB-C adapter for fast charging

Wouldn't the removal of Touch ID immediately impact all Apple Pay apps and services?

All those apps that have incorporated Touch ID for logging in and registering?

Not buying this prediction.

Exactly, also how would facial recognition work in the dark?? If that was the only way, other than a password.

Great, so now I can't look at it at night.

You can. You'll just have a flash go off in your face. You'll have to set up facial unlock with your wtf face or as apple will call it ... I have nothing damn.

inb4 "Who is this Ming guy? he's wrong? MacRumors needs to tell us how often he has actually been right, that's more important!"

So, again, he is the most reliable Apple analyst in the industry, a fact of which has been written in many articles so Google it if you're really so confused.

Also, according to this article, Bloomberg is backing up the report that touchID is going absent. I like the speed of the sensor in the iPhone 7, but I don't mind new technology so if the facial recognition is on point then great, less for me to do.

The Bloomberg article absolutely does not say that iPhone 8 won't have Touch ID. It just mentions that this facial recognition tech is meant to replace Touch ID. It doesn't specify when.

I truly cannot picture these new iPhones not having Touch ID.

The thing is, whatever iPhones are coming out this year have already been finalized. It's way too close to September for Apple to be deciding on features...

I wish we knew for sure. I think their iris/facial recognition will be superb though.

Yeah, can't see it either. Even with great facial recognition. How the heck are you supposed to use Apple Pay? Put your face over your upturned iPhone at the POS reader? Come on.

If the new iPhone does not bring us real wireless and charging and instead brings Qi charging this will be a huge disappointment, that means Apple is several years behind without any kind of improvements and there were no reason at all to not provide Qi charging for the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 7.
What phone has, what you call, real wireless charging (I'm assuming you mean charge at a distance charging)?
You know if people wish for things that don't exist they're going to be disappointed.

Death of ApplePay? You could only use it in good lighting? My experience of facial recognition is it takes too long and often won't work! My biometric passport never works at Heathrow - although works in other countries. No fingerprint censor - no custom from me! Very disappointing...
And how would you work it? Tap the pdq terminal and then bring the phone up to your face? Bet the queues in shops and buses would love that! It can't be as fast as paying as we do now!

Prediction:

Apple working with Energous.

All 2017 iPhones include Energous-Dialog power management + RF-based wireless charging antenna receiver.

Apple sells 2 different types of RF-based chargers in 2017:

A contact-based charger which is $29
And HomePod which charges at 3-5ft for $349

All iPhones are hardware ready for contact to long range charging with the single chip.

One issue with the 'faceID' (as opposed to touchID) is that if the phone is in a mount or otherwise not in your hand, you have to then have it actually facing you or however it needs to 'capture your image'. A finger is much more maneuverable that your face, especially if driving, etc., or even as a passenger. I really can't see such a quick transition to ONLY 'faceID'. An option, maybe. Only? Color me still suspicious.

Riding a bike with the phone mounted on my handlebars, I can unlock it with a thumb, without having to take my eyes off the road. With facial recognition, I'd have to stop the bike, remove my helmet, remove my sun glasses, remove the phone from the mount, hold the phone up to my face (say cheese) unlock the phone, place the phone back into the mount, don the glasses and helmet, get on the bike again and realise that the phone has locked itself again.

Apple will not be so stupid to drop a feature like touchID, because this feature will drive people away from securing their phone, or drive away from iPhone. I've also not seen anything from Apple that warrants even updating from the iPhone 6.

One small correction "Wow, today's iPhone rumors (not news) just gets . .. "

Yikes today's rumors/predictions are depressing and sound so unlikely. Fewer colors. No Touch ID. Mr. Kuo has become such a killjoy.

Let's make things more fun. Anybody any good with Tarot cards? Is Jackie Stallone still a psychic?

If the rumors are true and Touch ID is gone, I wonder what spin word Phil will have for this particular move. "Courage" is so last year. If he wants to keep with a Wizard of Oz theme I suppose he can say "Heart".

That's a really good idea, especially if you have one in every room

I'm convinced at this point that Ming-Chi Kuo is intentionally saying stuff just to piss off users and more importantly, shareholders, in order to manipulate Apple's stock.

I fully believe Touch ID will remain, however, facial recognition would work in absolutely 0 lumens. Facial recognition will be mapping the face by shooting infrared light and receiving that light after it bounces back off of any objects it encounters. It creates a map by time-delay in the light coming back to the sensors.

Infrared light is invisible to human eyesight. It's electromagnetic radiation just as visible light is. It won't be seen, but the light is in the room, and it works without you seeing it.

Since the 'Siri device' was rumored and Apple was rumored to be working with Energous, I've thought that the Siri device was specifically conceptualized to be the wireless distance charging transmitter. Immediately I thought that a device like the Amazon Echo which you sit in a central location like a coffee table would be the optimal device for transmission of the RF power. To me making a rather large device, as it needs to be to transmit power over distance, needs to have multiple functionality, and not just sit there all hideous with it's only purpose being wireless charging. So, optimally it's in a device that's not just wireless charging, it's also a voice assistant, home automation hub, and a great speaker (HomePod).
