They've had 10 years to get this right. 10 years to build enough stock. 10 years to prepare for iPhone launch day.

They get it wrong every year.
Demand for specific models and colours are HUGE in the opening week. There is no way apple can fulfil it all. They did better last year when there was a 2 week lag between pre-ordering and availability.

Further proving the idea that there won't be any iPhone 7 Plus, Jet Black in customers' hands on Friday.
Further proof that you don't understand the meaning of the word 'proof' (circumstantial evidence is not the same as 'proof', in particular if there is hard evidence to the contrary).

This is one thing I'm really surprised about. The Mac Pro's outer cylindrical enclosure is also polished aluminium and yet it seemed to hold up well to scratches. Why isn't the Jet Black as hardy? Tech Crunch's review unit looked horrible after just a few days with his pockets and keys.

I know, right? I mean, I never get scratches on my MAC PRO when I carry it around in my pocket.

And besides, who does not use a giant ventilated horse condom when taking their Mac Pro out for a spin? That's just crazy talk...

I wonder if those few in front of the New York store camping will leave or just wait until tomorrow anyway to see if this is true lol

Under-production of the devices for the headlines once again.

Lmao like clockwork. Isn't it funny? It really is amazing that every year this happens. We're basically just about to be in holiday season mode. What an interesting October/November/December this is going to be.

They couldn't just have given each store like 10 Jet Black iPhones? Then they could have just announced that there was a just constrained supply.

I say we all blame Angela. I still haven't forgiven her for the watch fiasco when there was ZERO product in store on launch day and no one received a watch in the mail either. At least in this case it looks like a few folks will have a phone in the mail tomorrow, but if there is no product in store, well, that's not good.

Phil Schiller should have said on stage that the Jet Black model would be supply constrained at launch. It's a new manufacturing process and they probably are proving more difficult to produce.

It does amaze me though that two supply chain gurus are running the company yet every launch these days is supply constrained.

Its saying all colors arent going to be there??? Not just jet black where is hard proof from apple?

Apple seems to have listened to the Internet rumors about the demand for this gen not being there because everyone is waiting for the 10th anniversary phone and scaled down production.

Looks like they should have just kept on keeping on and done what they always do. It's funny in a way and proof that the headphone jack issue is purely a very vocal minority making a big stink.

So people are proud not to be ' mainstream' norms. No Sheep ever changed the world.

"The iPhone 7 sucks" they said.

"No one will buy it" they said.

To be fair just because something sells doesn't mean it doesn't suck. Some people will buy anything.

I don't think the 7 sucks just being realistic.

You sold a 128GB iPhone for $1,580? You knowingly ripped that person off, massively. How do you sleep at night?
LoL how did he rip anyone off? The person willingly spent that money on a phone they can't get (and now won't get because OP sold something he didn't have)?

When the i4 came out I bought 4 of the highest gig I could (cant remember probably 32gig lol) sold one on ebay for $1400, one of them for $1200 and one of them for $1250. So AFTER paypal and ebay fees AND shipping I walked with a free phone for myself a something like a grand in my pocket. Supply and demand..... I had the supply and 3 other people demanded I give them a phone for a ton of cash.

I'm willing to bet that if Samsung didn't have their Note 7's exploding 2 weeks before preorder I would have had my 256 iPhone 7 Plus delivered to my home tomorrow. This is the karma we get for making fun of the Note 7 situation. We basically talked those Note 7 buyers into the Plus model.

I will be surprised if there will be any jet black models in the hands of any international consumers on Friday from what I've heard.
Yep glossy tech isn't appealing for is Brits. Especially given the scratch warnings.

But I don't see the appeal anyway as most people are going to stick the thing in a case, so I do t really get the whole colour thing anyway.

Interesting how some supply chain analysts give Apple praise for recovering so quickly from the issue that delayed the product for the Apple Watch launch.

We witnessed the calamity of the delayed shipment of the Apple Watch due to a defective taptic engine—a term Apple coined because the device simply didn’t exist before Apple created it. This innovation uses a tiny motor to move a tinier rod back and forth, producing the unique sensation of being tapped on the wrist, hence the name. It turns out that reliability testing revealed that the taptic engines produced at Apple’s China-based supplier broke down over time just as Apple was ramping up production, but thank goodness a second supplier’s taptic engines (from Japan’s Nidec Coporation) didn’t experience the same behavior. So, a little delay in delivery as Nidec ramps up and then we’re all wearing Apple Watches, right?

Well at this point, queueing outside a store is just a silly idea anyway....Queueing is futile and frankly a bit insane nowadays.
Some people have legitimate reasons for queueing. Verizon customers with an unlimited data plan have to pay full price for it in order to keep that unlimited data plan. This is the first year that I was able to pre-order online at full price for launch day delivery while keeping my unlimited data plan. Up until this year, queueing up was the only way to get one on launch day.

Wow.

Indeed, supply chain rumors hint to iPhone 7 orders being rised to 100 millions to year's end, from 72-78 millions Apple expected to sell.

Samsung's self-annihilation has a part in this, of course.

PS: if you have shorted AAPL, cover it as soon as possible, it's going to a fresh ATH.
AAPL isn't going north anytime soon. I'll take my daily theta on options thanks.

It would have been nice if they got rid of one of the female colors and either move that to more Jet Black or a green or (as rumored) blue.

And I pretty much guarantee people will be able to walk into a store on Friday and buy a 7 plus, even a jet black one.

Each year they make calculations to produce more to meet demand and each year demand is greater than expected.

I don't believe that for a minute. The shortages are intentional as it helps to pump up the hype surrounding each new model. They could manufacture enough to satisfy initial demand if they wanted to but they chose not to. Everyone wants what they can't have.
