‘Exxy’ in Australia is slang for ‘expensive’. The ‘xc’...

So there is the iPhone Expensive and the iPhone Excess. Despite Apple’s insistence, people in the real world don’t call it the iPhone ‘ten’, they call it the iPhone ‘ex’. Trying to be clever with Roman numerals was a mistake.

This was a good opportunity for Apple to simplify he naming and drop all numbers (iPhone, iPhone Pro) and they appear to have messed it up.

The other option for the iPhone Xs (ten ess) is that people will call it the iPhone Tennis. Ugh.

Let’s hope these rumors are false. There is still a chance.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the skipping of iPhone 7s and calling it iPhone 8 was a marketing ploy to sell more to certain superstitious group of people who love that number....

I predict that they’ll surprise most everyone and drop the roman numeral entirely this year. I’m sure they had more meetings than we care to imagine talking about how iPhone XS (said the way they ‘average’ person would) was a bad idea. So, I think it will be “iPhone 10 S, 10 S Plus, and 10 C” this year.

A photo of an alleged slide from an internal Chinese mobile carrier presentation appeared on Weibo today that potentially reveals the naming convention for Apple's imminent iPhone lineup as well as possible pricing details.

Alleged slide from China Mobile internal company meeting

First spotted by Japanese tech blog MacOtakara, the China Mobile slide refers to the larger 6.5-inch OLED iPhone as "iPhone XS Plus", casting doubt on earlier claims that the larger OLED iPhone will take the moniker "iPhone XS Max". Meanwhile, the lower-spec 6.1-inch LCD iPhone is referred to as "iPhone XC".

The last time Apple used "C" nomenclature in its smartphones was for 2013's iPhone 5c, which was priced below the flagship iPhone 5 series and featured a plastic rear case available in blue, green, yellow, white, and pink colors.

Respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the 6.1-inch iPhone to be available in red, blue, orange, gray, and white, while the 5.8 and 6.5-inch iPhone models will be available in just three colors - presumably silver, space gray, and gold.

As for the slide's pricing, which includes 17 percent Chinese sales tax, the "iPhone XS" is 7388 yuan ($1079), the "iPhone XS Plus" is 8388 yuan ($1225), and the lower-spec "iPhone XC" is 5888 yuan ($860). Minus tax, the "iPhone XS", "iPhone XS Plus", and "iPhone XC" prices approximately convert to $900, $1015, and $700, respectively.

Those figures roughly line up with Kuo's expectation that the 6.5-inch OLED device will be priced at $900 to $1,000, while the 5.8-inch OLED second-generation iPhone X will be $800 to $900, and the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will be $600 to $700.

Lastly, the slide mentions that a dual-sim version of the "iPhone XS" and "iPhone XS Plus" will be available, but at a later date than the standard models.

Similar leaks allegedly sourced from China Mobile have been accurate in the past, but at present it's impossible to verify that this one is legitimate. Suffice to say we'll know for sure on Wednesday, September 12, when Apple's "Gather Round" media event takes place. Aside from new iPhones, redesigned iPad Pro and Apple Watch models are also expected to be announced. Stay tuned to MacRumors for all the coverage.

It's already so difficult to make everything compatible with Apple's different screen sizes. I just released an app for IOS, this is going to make it more difficult =(.

3 more days, till then I'll wait to see what its called, the prices and what's new in each phone. If nothing gives me a reason to upgrade, I'll wait until new year to see what's new.

When the 5C was out, almost everyone that I knew that had one said they bought it because of the price. When I had a 6+ and they still had a 5C, many of them said that they wished they could have a big phone like I did, and pay the lower price. I think on Wednesday, Apple will make that dream come true for them.

It’s sick that we’re at a point where $700 is a “cheap” phone. $650 was the starting price for the flagship iPhone as recently as the 5s.

just as count dooku predicted

:D

I told you guys
iPhone X S Plus

Tim is so predictable
just a few minor changes and an iOS update from 11 to 12
another 1000 dollars

I'm running my 5s until it runs out of updates
maybe the last will be iOS 12
but at least I got an extra year even if is the last one
then I will consider my options

There was a great article in the WSJ today that said by making the screens bigger, Apple can justify charging a higher premium which offsets that less people are buying new smartphones as their current phone probably works great!

However, if you don’t need Face ID and wireless charging (and come on, no one does really) then the 7 or 8 are probably going to be lots cheaper in a few days time and both are still very powerful phones!

Yep, much more believable than “XS Max”.

My guess is that the XC will be the budget/economy model— a “X” in a new body and with colorful options.

XS, XS Plus and XC... this actually makes perfect sense, if you remove your own preferences from the equation. Also might hint that the 6.1-inch phone will have iPhone X internals, like the 5C which was essentially a 5 in a new (plastic) body. If color is the selling point, I'm anxious to see how the aluminum bodies look. There will probably be some similarities to colored aluminum iPods from the past.

Due to inflation and tariffs plus the dynamics of scale and Apples illusion for value people believe there are receiving value for your iPhone hardware.

Apple could technically sell a 4” or a 4.7” screen phone, however the market cannot justify the higher cost compared to its competitors. Solution discontinue the smaller size screen and increase the physical size to justify to the customer that their are receiving value by getting more screen for a little bit more cost.

It is a psychological effect, human by nature believe that something big has a higher value as you are receiving more. In actuality you are not. In this effort Apple artificially keeps the price of the iPhone higher where people believe it is a better product due to the higher cost.

So it’s the iPhone X Color like the 5c. Yeah it’s all about the XS and XS Plus imo. 6.1” would be the perfect size but not without the dual lens. That is a dealbreaker imo.

I agree. I have the X and it’s just too big

Too big? It’s about the same footprint as an iPhone 6 just a little taller. The Plus phones are huge! They’re the absolute limit for my front pocket. Hopefully the XS Plus will give me the real estate but with a slightly smaller package.

whats the c stand for? cheap:rolleyes:

Color! Duh!

I’m surprised you don’t realize that when the number 9 and the number 11 are put together, it brings up horrible memories for all of us.

I didn't think of that. But if they had announced it on Tuesday, ouch!

I think Phil Schiller should announce it as the iPhone S and iPhone S Plus. Just explain that it’s an S model year and they thought it would be strange to have an iPhone XS or XS Plus
