They're basically out of ideas and going back to the 4/4s/5/5s/SE design.
Well, all cars have four wheels, a steering wheel and the same basic shape. When a new type of product emerges, there's usually a higher rate of bigger changes, but after a while people figure out how consumers use them and what works well and what doesn't, so naturally, designs converge after a while. Innovation doesn't mean changes for the sake of change, but substantial leaps that make the product better. There are only so many of those leaps you can potentially make.

Shut up and take my money. I want that boxy iPhone 4 design!

And Qualcomm Modem!.

The design depicted in these images is consistent with other rumors that have have leaked from the supply chain regarding Apple's upcoming iPhone models, with iPad Pro-style flat edges that are a significant design departure from current models.
Can't believe it looks 5 years for Apple to change the slippery bar-of-soap rounded edge design.

They could easily design the iPhone without the notch as seen here:

"Easily"

And you'd be complaining about bezel size anyway.

If these are case molds, why would they have *anything* in the area of the notch? That doesn't make sense. My iPhone Max, with an Apple case, has nothing that would come close to the notch. Either these molds are for something else, or I can BS.

I‘m glad I bought the iPhone 11 Pro when I did, then. 5.8” is a better size for me than 6.1”. Doesn’t seem like much, but my kids have the 6.1” iPhone 11 and I find it too wide to be comfortable. I prefer the X/XS/11Pro size much more.

I have the XS right now and the rounded edges drives me nuts. If this is indeed the new iPhone 12 design with the flat edges, I'm all in. The notch looks thinner but about the same length based on the renders.
What exactly are you doing with your phone for which rounded edges drives you nuts? Are you trying to balance it on your head? Playing Jenga with it? I know you’re going to say something about holding it being inconvenient because of the rounded edges (which is utter nonsense). I think you’re just bored with the design and you put a lot of self worth into the inanimate objects you own. Just speculation on my part.

In this thread: This iPhone is ugly! I thought it was going to have *this feature*! What happened to the rumors of *this new thing*!? I'm not buying!

Release time: I'm buying!!!!
Or better yet on preorder night: Ok! Just preordered the iPhone 12 Pro Max Midnight Blue 512 gig which will be ready at my nearby Apple store for day one! So excited!!!

Not saying this is a bad thing but I feel like the Apple is just recycling enclosures at this point - first it was the rounded (3G, 3Gs) enclosure then to the flat/squared enclosure (4, 5), back to rounded (6, 7, 8, X, XS) and now we arrive back to flat/squared again (12)

What else exists apart from rounded and flat edges?

No LTPO display, engineers struggling to get 120hz working properly, same bezels as 11 pro max by the looks of it. 😔

Might keep my XS max for another year.

way too many models. I understand choice, but this is ridiculous. How much engineering talent is wasted making so many many devices. It’s not like Apple doesn’t have other things for these limited talented individuals to do.

Yeah, this one looks actually bigger for some reason. oh well...

Notch will be getting smaller according to 9to5mac.

This is why some details might not be exact with these molds. For instance, the size of the notch does not affect case designs, so case makers have not factored the potential for a smaller notch into their designs.

LOL. Half the people: “apple’s too limiting! They should license iOS to others!” Half the people: “too many choices! It hurts my head!”

Yes please. The only iPhones I have owned are the 4, 5S, and SE, which I've been rocking since 2016 (and it's still going strong on the original battery). If this comes true and I can get a flat 5.4 inch model, I will have successfully avoided the entire era of rounded iPhones, which I have never liked.

I am hyped more for the smaller iPhone 12 5.4" size than anything else.

Even if by any chance it doesn't get the flat edge design I'll still be happy because of its compact size.
