Something about this seems fishy to me, at that size there might as well be a notch, plus apple never really do asymmetrical designs, and this just seems very un-apple to me.

My gut tells me this is going to be another squared off Watch scenario… where all the leakers and analysts say the same thing then it ends up completely different when it’s revealed by Apple.

It's called marketing - they already have the tech for under-screen, etc but Apple will always milk it every year with tech i.e the notch gets smaller and smaller so people carry on buying each year that new thing! so then this new pill becomes the new thing for 2 years then the under-screen camera will be introduced..

It doesn’t matter what the iPhone looks like any more, as it is obsolete. We’ll all be walking around wearing Apple® Goggles™

Under the screen will not happen for a long time. It’s a very lossy implementation.

I still can’t see how a punch hole is better than a notch. I forget the notch is there but if there’s pixels around a punch hole won’t it draw more attention to it?
I haven’t used a phone with one for any length of time so maybe I’m missing something. Still feel like the notch hate is way overblown.

Exactly... This is worse than the notch. What is the screen above this pill useful for? I think this whole thing has to be some joke Apple is playing on leakers. No way would Apple make what looks like a Samsung copy bought off of Wish ?‍♂️
Same as notch now, full screen media would be less affected than now by far

I think this is like the Series 7 watch “leaks” from last year. I don’t believe the iPhone 14 Pro it’s going to look like this.

It’s not as ugly as I initially thought, but it doesn’t look good either.

The rumors have been wild with regards to the iPhone 14. Lets reserve judgement until we can get a more clear picture with what we're dealing with here.

As is sits right now, we'll get a "pill + hole" instead of a notch and apparently flat rear cameras, round side buttons, design reminiscent of iPhone 4/5... I mean who really knows at this point.

What we do know, is that under-screen technology is not ready yet but we seem to be getting much closer. Perhaps by 2023/2024.

Honestly feel like I’d rather keep the notch. Doesn’t bother me at all, and blends in quite well when using the screen. I’m not too sure how a pill and a dot will blend in though, feel it will be distracting ?‍?

I see what you’re doing there, Apple.

It's just a way to make it visually different so the fashionistas feel compelled to buy it. Include a few incremental updates and that's another year of huge profits. They're on autopilot with this really. It's in their interest to slow improvement down. Helped by the lack of real competition.

That Oppo looked good from the other day. Held back by android though.

I never understood the notch aversion. It never bothered me. I never noticed it until people on MR started kvetching about it.

It’s like a non issue to me…

You’re right. It absolutely is a non-issue and trivial. I mean, how many people have you heard ever complain about the notch outside MacRumors? And this is coming from somebody that has ‘tech’ as a second hobby and I’ve never had that happen. I just remind myself it’s the Internet and leave it at that.

If it's asymmetrical that's ridiculous, it's cool we get the pixels above as that can help to "forget" about the notch when watching full-screen media. But this is not the way to do it, I would be a fan of a singular long pill.

Since you still would have physical area that has no pixels the few pixels above the new cutouts would be useless anyway. Full screen media would still end below the cutouts since a empty spot on the video would be less than ideal.
