better than a notch. still not perfect 'cuz it's ugly, but the notch is BEYOND ugly... ?

best solution would've been to keep a small shrivel of a bezel up top, to accommodate whatever components need to be up there. the notch should've never been implemented - having an edge-to-edge screen all the way to the very top isn't worth it if it ruins the way the screen looks.

Probably just me, but I think Prosser has lost credibility with how many things he’s gotten wrong in the past few years.

At this point, Apple should just connect the pill and the circular cut-out hole and combine them together. Make it a single pill shape. This will have more of a classy look.
Nah. The current 2-hole design is better for marketing. I can see them having the word “iPhone” in a commercial and the “i” turns into the the 2 holes and then it turns sideways and the phone is revelaled.

Would make for a decent commercial or reveal.

This may make me upgrade....from an iPhone X. The notch is getting quite tiresome...we shall see...only 6 months left...
So you would upgrade based solely on the removal of the notch? I’m all for design changes that add some benefit, but the notch doesn’t really affect anything, really. Having no notch and a pill or pill and hole punch might look a bit cooler I guess, but no real benefit. And I don’t think Apple would add an asymmetric pill/hole combo like that, but who knows these days.

Pill, notch… who cares. Until the tech is there for them to put everything under the display effectively, I am cool with whatever Apple comes up with. Such a non issue.

Not really. iPhone 4 and iPhone X were really exciting updates. Also iPhone 6 was pretty interesting.

After 4 years in a row of incremental updates (XS/XR, 11, 12, 13) I was hoping for a bolder change.
The 4 and X were just as iterative as XS/SR, 11, 12, and 13. There is no leap forward that can overcome that when you are discussing a product as mature as a phone. Even if the iPhone 14 added holographic AR projection it would still be iterative.

What was their last new product? AirPods? From 2016? I love Apple products, or at least I want to love them, but it has been six years since we got anything that might not be iterative, and seven if you consider the AirPods just more refined wired headphone.

Does not bother me, I wont be upgrading this year my 13 Pro is more than good enough. I really dont like the new look and also if the cameras are not being shrunk possibly to the deterrent of the camera, that is one thick phone. Also odd that Apple did all that work to make the face ID components smaller to then change design yet again in one year with the extra pixels above being totally useless. I bet the 14 looks the same as its the last run of this design if we go buy Apples 3 year cycle I think Apple are making their phones internals cheaper to keep profit as manufacturing costs rise. Also though if this is the last year of Apple using Qualcomm modems, maybe I should update. I dont want Apple/Intel modems which will take a few years to mature in my iPhone.

Unlike the CPU's modems are a lot harder to make (see intel and 5G modems) especially with Qualcomm holding a massive amount of patents and their modems are built really well but Apple pay a high cost for the best in class. Not fun for the phone being easier to repair either by anyone else but Apple either if its full of Apple only silicon. I think my days of iPhones may sadly be over once they have control of all of their phones to that extent. I would happily forgo the marketing 'premium' bs and get a Fairphone and put Graphene on it.

Also I remember how much round buttons rattled on the iPhone 4 and 4S I hope they don't use the old design or people will go barmy shaking their phones and asking "do your buttons feels loose" on the forums. I also wonder if image stabilisation using the sensor will be dropped in favour of the lens to make things smaller again, just a thought as the bean counters will be trying to maximise profit in a year with sky rocketing power costs and a war in Europe will even hit Apple, maybe not a good year to update after all. Especially in the UK with a 54% rise in energy prices in April and another 20% in October. My bills may be more important than a new shiny consumer badge from Apple anyway.
I didn't read your post but gave it a like for being so long.

Honestly who cares. I never notice the notch. I don't care if it becomes this. The iPhone has become such a bore and will continue to be so for years to come...
Microwaves are boring too as are most tvs, etc etc. iPhones are an appliance now and won’t ever be exciting as the first view years of any product. And no don’t even start with that folding phone BS

At this size...why not keep the notch?!

I agree, but I’m guessing marketing.
Let’s face it, the 12 and 13 were very similar looking phones and Apple probably knew it was essentially an ‘S’ year.

The 14 likely will be more than an incremental upgrade. Having a new face on the phone might be an easier sell to 12/13 owners too.

This is gross, in what way is this better than a (more elegant) notch? There's no use for that space anyway and will just make it look busier. Yuck.

My personal preference is to shrink the notch until it disappears. I've never liked the aesthetic of the "hole punch". One of the reasons I've never owned a white iPhone is because I didn't like the black camera hole in the middle of the white forehead present on the older models.

I'm actually wondering if their reason behind the visual change with the front of the iPhone 14 is because they plan to include Touch ID along with Face ID and this visual change will make it easy for everyone to be able to identify the iPhone models that support both unlock methods. If you see a notch, it's only Face ID. If you see a home button, it is only Touch ID. If you see the pill/camera cut-outs, it supports both Face ID and Touch ID.

Guys, you seem to think that folks are putting out innovative products every year. If a company can put out an innovative product once a century they are lucky. Look at any industry and tell me what innovation has dropped recently? Automotive? Airlines? Now let's look at some other top companies like Microsoft, Google, Oracle. Please tell me what innovative products they have dropped in the past 20 years? You can't because it's all iterative.
