Good point……..but you don’t generally stare at the rear of the phone……or maybe you do.
Agreed -- but, I'd say plenty of other folks see the back with it getting held up to take photos/videos all the time.

I actually also thought about the speaker and microphone openings on the bottom which are no longer symmetrical in number and the antenna lines are also all over the place.
I still don’t think they will go for that cut-out design on the front, it’s a mess.
There is also the ProMotion feature + faster CPU + better camera system....my iPhone X is acting slower these days and I think I can use the faster CPU...
I don’t want cameras completely obscured under screen.
Why? I put cam covers (tape) over forward facing cameras on all my devices due to the Snowden disclosures (and Project Echelon before it).
Having cameras hidden would mean I would have a stupid black sticker on my screen all the time. At least with the notch, it’s basically hidden when applied (sticker is round/black).
Thinner camera bumps would be welcome, since I don't use a case. iPhone 13 Pro camera is clown sized...
Apple just throwing stuff at the wall now and seeing how ridiculous they can be.

We've had the single notch for years now. Apple customers want a distinction from older phone models without sacrificing Face ID, AR and other front facing camera features. Apple is heading towards all screen but they have no need to rush to that goal. Only their competitors need to rush but that means they will make mistakes that Apple will fix. Just like every single year of iPhone release.

What’s funny about that is that my 13 can’t even sit flat on my old wireless charger so I couldn’t even use it with my 13
This could be planted info - give this small part of the universe something to gripe about for the next 6 months. Or give us time to rationalize why pill is better than notch. Either way, it seems weird they would un-notch iPhone a cycle after adding notch to MBP. But I suppose anything is possible.
As many have stated, I think pill might prove more distracting than notch. And, this rumor holds, I would be reeeally surprised if pill weren’t centered.

How does the design affect the user experience? [I’m asking rhetorically] I don’t care if Apple adds a notch, hole punch or pill shape, does that personally take away from something that is so trivial and non-controversial? I think the less than one percenters’ on sites like this, just know how to drag something completely out of proportion. This thread is just a reminder of that.

I realize that it's an extra step...but I just pull down my Control Center whenever I feel nostalgic for it.
Isn't that so that you can do instant app switching? That wouldn't work without that bar there would it?
Remember that "hon" case? Apple design is still nice, but the little details have gone way long time ago.

The camera bump is now laughably large on the 13 Pro line. I’d be ok with a thicker iPhone if it meant a flush back camera system. As a bonus, I’d assume a thicker iPhone could mean larger battery. Win-win.
The point is to show as many pixels as possible given the size of the device, without compromising on features like the front facing camera and face recognition.
A lot of apps might draw black pixels in that area of the screen (especially during full screen video playback for example).
