Although its not much more screen real estate, I think the pill/dot camera cut out is a better look. Also as someone said this will give more reason to upgrade from previous models. I would also prefer thinner bezels but not a deal breaker (yes, i've seen the thread about the bezels. Thinner bezels for me any day of the week).

If it's asymmetrical that's ridiculous, it's cool we get the pixels above as that can help to "forget" about the notch when watching full-screen media. But this is not the way to do it, I would be a fan of a singular long pill.
I suspect the gap or bridge in-between the holes will be blackened out and only show an indicator dot for when the camera or mic are on or recently active. The screen space above will indicate if it was the mic, camera or both. This space can also be used to indicate screen sharing and other pieces of information.

Chances are it will look like a pill with the gap blackened. Looking forward to it.

I'm more curious with what they do to the back of the phone. My iPhone 13 Pro is a great phone, but my least favorite feature is the excessive camera bump. It looks funny, like it was glued on -- and it makes the whole device look and feel top heavy. If Apple can really pull off a smooth looking camera array, flush with the back of the phone, I'd love it. I like the round vol. buttons too.

Totally agree. However look at the bump arrangement as “design without compromised performance”, which seems to be the new Apple mantra.😏
Personally a prefer round edges like X, although it makes it more slippery it’s better for holding and sliding into pocket. Would love Apple to work out magnetic charging without glass back.

Personally it looks worse than a notch. As some Andriod phone already have under-display camera, it would not be difficult technically for faceID to work under display, right? For the front camera itself, I get it. it is much more challenging to make it hidden under the display without losing the image quality.

I don't really get the point especially if they are planning on removing it next year. Which makes me think that they aren't.

If there are two asymmetrical holes a notch would be better.
I would rather keep the notch too. It might be a marketing brand change for the 5th gen after the first notch. This gives Apple more time to develop under the screen technology.

1. Notch (X to 13)
2. Larger pill and hole (2023)
3. Smaller pill and hole (2025?)
4. One pill or one hole (2027?)
5. Everything under the screen (2030?)

Don’t see any reason to upgrade iPhone 12 max. Maybe iPhone 15 will be the one. Lol. Honestly I’ve lost interest. The MacBook Pro was cool though.

Battery life would be the major reason if the current one is not "enough" yet. I would imagine the 14 Pro Max would be even longer with the additional improvements from A16 on TSMC 4nm. Apple will even farther demolish the battery life record if they increase to 5000 mAh.

I don't want to freak-out too many people but it looks more like this...

Once these phones come out this Fall, Samsung will be releasing the next galaxy series early 2023 and no hole punch will be on those devices. It will be using something similar to the Fold for the front camera to cover the punch hole but that technology will be even better for early next year. So this design by Apple, once again will be considered archaic before you know it.

And they really do need to change iOS, MacOS and ipadOS, its a bore and android 12 with one ui, chrome os, and even windows 11 has me barely using my apple mobile devices due to those OS's being so intuitive with a clean smooth interface and smart new features and updates that actally show something new or different.

Guys, you seem to think that folks are putting out innovative products every year. If a company can put out an innovative product once a century they are lucky. Look at any industry and tell me what innovation has dropped recently? Automotive? Airlines? Now let's look at some other top companies like Microsoft, Google, Oracle. Please tell me what innovative products they have dropped in the past 20 years? You can't because it's all iterative.
This is not political, but just a response. I think the vaccines for COVID are are innovative. While not perfect, to come up with something that can easily prevent hospitalization and bring back some sense of normalcy in such a short space of time amazing in regards to science and technology.

As for phones and operating systems, we are at peak now. I do see where VR headsets could replace a lot client PCs.

Yeah and love it or hate it, but the notch is iconic for Apple right now. Even if it shrunk in half, people would see it and know 'that's an iPhone'. Why disrupt that sort of brand identification. It's like when movies used to put stickers over the iBook but everyone still knew it was a Mac because (excluding fruit flavors) every Apple laptop looked about the same for a decade.

That would look absolutely ridiculous at that size. I'm having a hard time believing this is legitimate.

I don’t mind the notch so I’m guessing I won’t mind this either.
Every extra pixel is a win in my book, I don’t really care for those ghastly under screen cameras so this is the best way to go for me

No real complaints but I was hoping for something more exciting. Looks like it's going to be another iterative update.
Smartphones already are perfect, you will never see anything truly exciting.
Unless you are really considering the closing of a small hole in the screen as exciting.

Samsung‘s hole punch is the best current design, although the notch does not bother me. I am not a fan of the asymmetrical design. Can they not just keep the notch, make even smaller, until they are able to integrate all but the main camera under the display?
