RIP Headphone jack.
[doublepost=1463940891][/doublepost]
I think it does. Cant tell if your post is sarcasm, but that does look real.

Exactly.. Look at where the camera is in comparison to the top right speaker. the camera module would get in the way of the speaker.

You probably said that when apple dropped the floppy and CD drive? Those were universally used too.
Everything is wireless now, why is the headphone jack an exception?
Floppies were dropped because the CD came about and was better. CDs are better than floppy disks in nearly every way.

CDs were dropped because the internet and USB flash drives became a thing. Both are nearly better than CDs in every way.

Wireless is not a viable alternative to the 3.5mm because the quality is terrible and you'll need to replace your headphone equipment. Lightning is not a viable solution because you'll still need Lightning headphones, or you'll have to buy an adapter and a DAC. Not comparable to simply buying new storage mediums.

Smartphones have replaced notebooks for many people. Why upgrade every year? Will enjoy the upgrades in 2017 : )

I listen to podcasts all the time around the house with the speakers
So you either live in a Tiny House or you're walking around your house all day holding your phone. No one believes you

If they ditch the 3.5mm jack then I will expect a free adapter (not £25.00) for my upgrade to iPhone 7 in September.
To be used with my 10 year old lifetime guarantee 3.5mm Koss Porta Pro's
I will also seriously worry about the hundreds of millions (billions?) of 3.5mm headphones in circulation that apple will be alienating their owners from buying an iPhone 7.
90% of smartphone users only use the cheap EarPods that were included or use Bluetooth. When has Apple ever worried about 10% of the market?

You're talking about things Apple did first that took the rest of the PC market a few years to follow. Apple can drop the headphone jack anytime they want to. No one "hears" the quality difference between Bluetooth and analog headphone jack. I've been listening to Bluetooth for podcasts and music for years - it's fine the same way 256kbps AAC files are just as good as CD.

Removing the headphone jack will just mean I would end up jumping to Android...
But at least the camera bezel is smaller

Really, Reading all the anger on the phone jack I must be the only guy with Bluetooth headphones " there are some very nice ones on the market now". Home I use a sonos system and work a Bluetooth speaker. I travel allot and every one I notice with headphones are wireless. I honestly could not care any less for the jack.

I'm due an upgrade in Sept '16 (24 months).
I'd be interested in knowing who upgradeS every year. Now the mobile network operators tend to do 24 month contracts.
Unless you go the SIMO, buy outright sell on eBay route, which can work out a LOT cheaper.

The people who complained when floppy disk drives and CD drives went away would beg to differ. They needed to convert any of their data stored on floppies or CD's to newer media, or risk losing it forever. In each case, the next stage in storage was not quite ready to make the transition easy. But it got there faster after Apple and other manufacturers helped it along by not including floppy and CD drives as standard equipment.

You can look back from the comfort of half a decade or more and say that they were just clinging to what they were comfortable with. In half a decade, we'll be able to look back on your objections the same way.

So now you have to carry an adaptor everywhere that will extend the length of your phone in your pocket? Not very innovative and a clumsy solution for something that isn't a problem.
It honestly wouldn't be a problem because when your out with a pair of headphones 95% of the time they remaine plugged in the phone. Same basic concept keep the 3.5mm headphones plugged in the adapter.

I hadn't planned on upgrading this year - because I like the smaller SE form factor and I just got one. But if there is a purple one...dammit, Apple!

Maybe it was a last minute decision by Apple to add a purple iPhone in memory of Prince. Probably not.

Maybe not now, but eventually and with Apple's assistance, eventually may come much sooner.

A logical explanation could be that this case maker has no idea where or how many speakers there will be - so they hedged their bets and created grates on all sides.

As a 9.7" iPad Pro owner, I can say the 4 speakers really sound nice and add a lot of volume when watching YouTube clips or Netflix on my desk. So I think they would help the iPhone as well. However, I'm not sure how I feel about the lack of a headphone jack. I do use mine a lot when not in my car. (And I'm one of those that use the included white ear pods most of the time and think they sound pretty good for what they are--they work fine for phone calls and pod casts. I also have a nice pair of Bose in-ear headphones but they are starting to come apart near the wire-to-headphone junctions so I am afraid to use them in any way that might pull on them too hard and kill them completely.) Though maybe Apple knows best and lightning head phones or a decent pair Bluetooth ones will be the way for me to go in the future.

I also have a MacBook with the single USB-C. That hasn't proved to be that much of an inconvenience to get used to and it seemed like just about everybody spouted no end of doom and gloom for Apple on these forums and how nobody would buy it and they'd have to go back to Windows laptops. It's fine and I think the MacBooks are selling pretty well actually. So losing the headphone jack is probably not that big a deal either.

I am a little worried about the idea of a lightning adapter or lightning headphones plugged in when the iPhone is in a pocket, though. I feel that the skinny "long" side of the adapter will be potentially easy to snap off.

Oh, and if that is an actual purple color and not just some weird photo lighting effect on a Space Gray case, I kind of like it. Not sure I'd consider owning it unless the front was black like the SG, but it's way better, to me, than the Rose Gold (pink!) one.

Could the extra speakers be to compensate for any degradation in sound quality caused by waterproofing the phone?

I believe the Galaxy S7 had such a problem with it's speaker over the S6.

A speaker directly above the camera doesn't seem like it is doable; given I am suspecting the camera module will be occupying that space.

As for the single opening for the camera... Maybe these leaked images are for the 4.7" iPhone, which is rumored to lack the dual camera feature.

Based on all the articles from here and the other place, hardware wise, it looks like the tentpole features will be camera related and HD Sound capabilities.

I'm guessing iOS 10 or X will be huge due to them skipping a year to focus on stability and reliability. 10 will probably be packed with a few great new features. Really looking forward to it.

I enjoy dropping in from time to time for a laugh. Enjoying the irony of how so many people in a tech forum are terrified by technological change. Grandpa's analogue headphone mini jack is a 60+ year old technology, and has no place on a 21st century digital device. I'd expect the inevitable included Lightning EarPods to be a vast improvement over the soon-to-be-extinct analogue ones, with USB powered noise cancellation among its many advantages. It's 2016 people. Adapt or die.

I like the 8-bit design lying on top of it. Looks like it will present some manufacturing challenges ('unbelievably difficult to make' etc) but will be very popular with retro gamers.
