Samsung´s Galaxy line has been constant in design language for the past 5 years. The only notable difference is the edge, which is a side-step from their flagship model that essentially looks the same as 4 years ago.

Yes I am referring to the edge models. The standard S7 and S6 before that are fugly imo as too are the S5, S4 and S3.

This leaked design (if true) cannot compete with Galaxy S7/Edge design. Samsung has pulled ahead this time I am afraid.

Jonny must wake up

Samsung has pulled ahead

Just give us:
New design
Better camera
32GB minimum storage
1080p in 4.7" model
Stereo speakers

And i'll be happy!

And i'll be happy!

But, will you be happy if:

The new design is barely different
Bigger model has far superior camera
Headphone jack is gone
Bezel remains the same
It's thinner with the same battery life
The camera still bulges out
And the stereo is pointlessly on one side?

I feel like they are holding back the hardware every year. Apple has superior software with superior app support and they're taking it for granted.

What if there was a tiny adapter you could put on the end of your headphones connector to make it work, which would most likely happen? It would be no different, just plugging into a different port.

How tiny can it be, given that it would need to contain a DAC?

Well it is just the case design. Like another poster pointed out, the design lasts for a while. The 4-5s was basically the same design with the 5/5s being longer. Of course the internals in the iPhone 7 will be upgraded but I am hoping that since they are not changing the size like they did with the 4s to 5 that maybe they will upgrade the screen drastically and remove the bezels. The back is fine since most people use cases anyway and if they don't, it is a clean design. Stereo speakers, thinner, much improved screen, lack of bezel, better camera, and slightly different back will make the iPhone 7 sell easily. I love my 6S+ and can see where Apple is going with this.

People wanted revolution, not another slippery evolution. This is what the 6s should have looked like.
nonsense. a S design always uses the same case design.

further, you must be new to Apple -- iterative, evolutionary improvements is the name of the game when it comes to Apple. major revolutions in tech domt happen very often. they're unusual in that they've had so many (Apple II, Mac, iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad). each version of those major products won't be revolutionary.

WE NEED AN ENTIRELY NEW CASE, THE 6/6S' DESIGN SUCKED, PLEASE APPLE, DON'T REUSE THE SAME DESIGN AND JUST MAKE IT A MILLIMETER THIN :(
it didn't suck. while the 3G was my favorite design, I don't know why we need an entirely different form factor.

i think it looks nice. now please get rid of the absolutely huge bezels and circular home button on the front glass and the iphone will design will be just what i always wanted it to be.

the one thing bothering me is the lack of headphone jack. if the iphone 7 doesn't have it then it simply isn't an option for me. my headphones cost £130 and i'm not going out and buying a new bluetooth pair just so i can listen on iphone. forget it.

Don't worry. Apple will sell you a lightning to 3.5mm jack adapter for $39.

If they really are removing the headphone jack, I wonder if it is possible that they would add analog audio output to the Lightning port. If so that would only require a small passive adapter which could be acceptable.

Apple will lose a lot of sales if it looks just like the 6S but is 1mm thinner, as most of these rumours seem to indicate. I don't know anyone who wants it thinner but I know plenty of people who would live with it being a bit thicker if it improved battery life.

But there are plenty of possible major improvements that could still be consistent with a relatively unchanged case.

My favourite would be a drastic reduction in bezel sizes, as that would be the sort of design change worthy of a non-S model. I find the 6S Plus too big for some pockets, but love the larger screen, so a phone the size of a 4.7" 6S but with a screen closer to that of a 6S Plus would be a great upgrade. Most of Apple's competitors have much better screen/phone ratios than the iPhone, so it is about time that Apple caught up.

Global smartphone sales are going to gradually decline until somebody steps in with something revolutionary that forces a market change and drastic upgrade cycle. Right now, smartphones are all powerful, look relativity good, and have a similar set of features. Company's aren't going to go out of business by any means, but I think until some company really throws some feature out there is throws a wrench in the standard upgrade cycle, people are going hold onto their phones longer.

One wouldn't think that it would be this hard to design a phone without camera lines.

Samsung is beating Apple in the Design area now ... of course thats subjective

Glass on both the sides of a phone was a design element that Apple used a few years ago.

All the more reason they shouldn't be stripping out features. If there's no revolutionary changes, and they strip out the headphone jack, then the 6s will just be a superior phone.

That all depends on how important a headphone jack is to someone. I mainly use Bluetooth headphones, when I use them, and occasionally I plug in the free white earbuds. None of that will change with the 7, as I'll just keep using the free pair of Lightning earbuds Apple is sure to include in the box. I might pick up an adapter to use the Lightning headphones on my older iPad or other legacy equipment, or I might take the opportunity to upgrade my iPad, and MacBook (the new models will come with Lightning ports). So, nothing about having a 3.5mm jack would make the 6s superior for me, assuming similar upgrades as each successive generation has received.

Stereo speakers, thinner, much improved screen, lack of bezel, better camera, and slightly different back will make the iPhone 7 sell easily.

How are stereo speakers going to help the iPhone 7 sell? They're both rumored to be on the bottom in portrait orientation which is going to do nothing for watching videos and playing most games. Being so small and poor quality, spaced barely an inch apart is going to provide neglible spatial separation, and performance. Stereo speakers are the one addition that would turn me against the removal of the headphone jack, since it would be a horrible waste of that reclaimed space, indefensible against the competition's current offerings. J

ust out of curiosity, under what circumstances do you see stereo speakers on an iPhone making a substantial difference to someone? Has this really been on the list of must haves a majority of customers have been demanding for the past 9 years? If so, this is the first I'm hearing about it.

Why do people keep assuming that the reason headphone jack is being removed is to make iPhone thin? How about being a freaking to old type of connector and time for it to go maybe?
By the way, latest iPod touch is thinner then iPhone and still have the 3.5 mm jack.

So if it works and it's old we should just get rid of it because...it's old.

Way too early to think about another phone that's coming out 6 months from now. Apple could easily shift designs. It's not like they have one device concept from start to finish.

Of all the things in the known universe, 'leaked phone case!' headlines are unequivocally the least interesting to me.

Ergonomics? Who gives a monkeys about ergonomics? Its all about design which I agree is subjective. The iphone 6 is the reason why I rock a S6 Edge plus as my main phone. Tell me about the ergonomics of the S6 Edge plus.

All phones are fine to use ergonomically. Why does everyone want to grip their phone like a monkey holding a banana.

I hear people moaning about the sharp edges of the edge plus. What sharp edges? Yes its flatter but its not sharp and definitely not uncomfortable. The Iphone 4 and 5 were never uncomfortable.

You seem to speak for everyone here. If the brick style iPhone 4/4s is ergonomic for you, then that's fine and dandy. I tend to use my phone a lot so as you would imagine I would do that with my hands. I would not say it was uncomfortable but definitely less pleasing to use the the iPhone 6 for me. iPhone 3G/3GS also was pleasing to use.

Yes, Galaxy 7 is quite ergonomic and better design then any of the iPhone's IMO. But for me OS is just as important as the design, and because I prefer iOS I don't think I would jump a ship just yet. But it could happen if Apple contentious to be lazy.
