It's nice to see a company pushing things forward and trying out new things. Unlike Apple that is basically resting on its laurels and cash pile these days.

Even if it's a modest number it will still drive sales.

And IMO these prices will be in line with the Moto X, which will drop to a very low amount soon - almost assuredly free on Black Friday or before holiday.

Honestly, I think they initial 'sticker shock' was to keep the phone in stock since the 4 camera design may have led to lower than expected yields.

Well then anyone who buys it right now is a sucker.

Why do people make such a huge deal about 3D images in the maps app? 3D images have no impact on turn by turn navigation at all. Sure it’s cool and all, but still trivial.

It's nice to visualize a landmark where you are suppose to turn or arrive especially in heavy traffic when you can't slow down to look. I can't tell you how many times I've missed a turn because of a confusing intersection or no street sign or slow GPS telling me to turn a nano second too late.

Also great to preview before walking an unfamiliar city to get a line on landmarks on your route.

I was wondering how bad the fan boys would trash the Amazon phone.

As a user of Apple products, but not a Fan Boy, I think Amazon on paper really pushed the ball forward with their technology and thought process.

How will the phone function in real world? Time well tell.

I'm thinking the Fan Boys should go back in the closet with their mirrors and continue their self love fest.

I prefer to do it the old fashioned way, by looking up and away from the phone. It's amazing what you can see when you do that. :D

Apple seems to have gone into hibernation when it comes to services and content tailored to consumers.

say wuh? did you watch the same WWDC as me? ios & os x are getting many new services tailored to consumers. and im digging the new iradio as well.

Have been a virtually exclusive Apple customer since the Apple//. It's really unfortunate.

yeah, everybody says theyve been customers since the Apple ][ now.

wait till Apple introduces it and calls trivial 'magical!!'

Holiday season

$299 for 32GB and $349 for 64GB off contract could have shaken up the entire market.

If it will make you want to spend more money at Amazon, then it should have been subsidized.

I was really hoping that Amazon would have a winner.:(

They priced it high to make it look like it can compete (build quality/features) with Apple, Samsung, HTC, etc... in order to slash the price at the holiday season.

Sounds like a nice step and to see what Apple does...which means Apple probably WONT start at 32gb...and WONT do unlimited Cloud Storage for Photos.

apple has already announced their limited icloud photo plan, and additional rates.

amazon's storage amount has no bearing on apple and they have no inside knowledge as to what apple is going to announce w/ their next iphone launch.

oh dear lord what rubbish. clearly you didnt watch the WWDC -- the new software initiatives and APIs are anything but resting on laurels. get real.

Nobody wants the entry level iPhone to only have 16GB anymore!

32GB minimum unless it's a low end phone.

-Kevin

I never had a big problem with 16gb.
Music. Spotify.
Videos? Ipad. Or streaming.
Photos? Iphoto or maybe the new photo cloud thing from Apple.
Apps? Never had a problem.

Of course, 32 gb is better than 16. But do I want it for the higher price? Probably not.

I have. Learned BASIC on a still warm Apple //. :)

my first games were on a ][ as well. but im seeing a new complaint pattern: "I've owned every single Apple product since the II, but APPLE IS DOOOMED!!!!" (because of missing feature/spec XXX). if these life-long fans had all those products then theyd understand by now apple doesnt play the specs-alone game. UX and TCO and total value is a big part of what their products have always represented over the decades.

seriously.

Not bad as a first effort, but not really on the same level as iPhone. It's camera is better, but then, whose isn't?

Fire has/is:
-no biometric scanner
-no built in office suite
-nothing like Facetime or iMessage
-no 'Find my Fire' equivalent that I could see
-thicker and heavier than iPhone
-not 64 bit
-no dedicated motion coprocessor
-fewer ppi

Fire does have:
-an integrated 'Buy it Now' button, which is really just the camera button (I wonder if it always sends your personal data back to its servers when you snap a photo, or only when you ask it to)
-crappy Android-based OS (I bought my wife a Kindle Fire a few years back, she absolutely hated the user interface; I finally bought her a iPad Mini)

Where Fire really loses is on price. When they released the Kindle Fire to compete with iPad, it was $300 cheaper. This is the same price, but they're stuck on one cell network, which really limits their customer base.

My last point might be subjective, but I hate the 'dynamic perspective'. I really hate that the phone will change what I'm looking at depending on the angle of my head. I could see that really getting annoying very fast.

It will be interesting to see how sales go, but if I had to guess, it will have limited success, stealing more customers from other Android phones than iPhone.

exactly......haven't seen any specs yet, but all those cameras and video processing have to eat battery
Absolute genius!

Of course here comes the flood of comments saying how this feature is dumb and the phone sucks..... Of course if apple implements some of these features they will be awesome and revolutionary. For the guy saying it looks familiar.....
If Apple didn't invent it or duplicate it, it sucks! ;)

Waits for the quintessential APPLE is not being innovative post....despite there being no reason to want an FireFly phone over an Andorid or an iPhone.

Or you could just go to a site that is not Apple focused?
