No, the fact that Range Rovers are bad trucks with poor reliability makes the Kia Rio a better car.

You could have picked a better comparison, like a Honda Ridgeline or Toyota Sequoia.

Well, since there all Japanese pieces of crap, aka "Jap Crap", why don't we try an even better comparison, like a Dodge Challenger SRT8 or Viper SRT10.

also have you seen the quality, ease-of-use, fluidity, speed, eco-system, content, sleekness, support and reliability of Apple products? Oh..

My dead 2006 Imac would like to see this 'reliablity' you speak of.

Apple, like all computer manufactures these days, have all of their products built by the lowest bidder. Quality and reliability in consumer electronic devices is a thing of the past.

I think the point of the ad is that for the price, you get "more value", ie, a e-ink reader and a real tablet for multimedia needs.

This ignores the fact that the iPad can also do some limited content creation that a Kindle Fire does not, but Amazon is betting on most people not needing that.

"Value" is subjective. Price does not equal value. Value is perceived by an individual's need for a widget and how much enjoyment they intend to get from using it. Amazon is betting on the Wal-Mart mentality; a cheaper price for seemingly same thing. Unfortunately, for electronics, especially interactive devices, if they're not executed well, they don't get used.

I can understand someone wanting to buy a Kindle over a tablet for reading, but if they did want a tablet as well, a better "value" would be to just get the iPad 1 on ebay rather than buying a Kindle Fire. The iPad is much more capable and might demonstrate to users new purposes that they never thought they'd need or want from such a device.

Yeah, and I could buy like 3 Kia Rios for the price of a single Range Rover. That totally makes the Kia Rio a superior car, right you guys?

Actually you're probably looking at 4-5 Kia Rios for the price of a range rover.

Ironic being posted on an Apple-focused message board since Apple is one of many companies currently under fire for offshore employment.

iPad2 vs. Kindle Fire Ad

Here's an idea for a tv commercial for Apple...

A dude ( 1st Camper ) is trying to start a fire while camping out in the woods with his friend. Having trouble keeping a flame going, he digs into his backpack, pulls out a Kindle Fire and puts it underneath his pile of wood.

2nd Camper, "Hey, what are you doing!?"

1st Camper, "I'm having trouble keeping our fire going, so I thought I'd put some kindling on it."

2nd Camper, "But that's your Kindle Fire!"

1st Camper, "Yup. I knew I'd find some use for it eventually. Now it actually lives up to its name!"

2nd Camper, "Yes, dude, but it's your Kindle!!"

1st Camper, "Yes, I know... ( pulling an iPad 2 out of his backpack ) ...Now I can stay warm while surfing the web on my iPad2!"

2nd Camper, throwing his Kindle on the fire as well, "Here's to a nice warm Fire!"

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

If I buy an iPad as the father then that iPad is mine and allocated time on it would be strictly based on how good of a mood im in. Good tool for rewarding good behavior too. :D

LOL....

Remember the phrase: "Practice what you preach"?
It works like this:
If you believe that the iPad is better than the Kindle Fire, and that after careful review you realize the Kindle Fire is crap, why would you give it to your children? They would definitely think you are a hypocrite.

Plus, you'll need to buy apps for both platforms, and one day the Kindle Fire becomes ignored by the manufacturer, and that's the end of it.

I like that mom.

Finally somebody gets the real point of this ad.

Let's get right to the brass tacks - a product called the FIRE, a bikini clad babe all oiled up accenting the voluptuous, sexy contours of her body...in all honesty nobody watching this commercial is seriously weighing the virtues of the Kindle FIRE (as in, you know, fire down below) and the iPad.

Guess Amazon nixed taking the high road here. What this commercial is pandering to is pretty blatant and it's an obvious stark contrast to the approach taken in the iPad commercials (what we believe) which are intended to resonate on an emotional level.

Seriously, Apple would never go with this kind of schlock in it's advertising because there's no need to.

if you're laying on a beach and you want to read, chances are you have the dough to buy a kindle for the sunlight AND you already have an iPad, cause duh they rock. Kind of a pointless ad.

THIS is an ad that would help with price: a lady with a tight budget in a checkout line having to choose between the kindle fire and the iPad, with kids pulling at her leg begging for something that lets them watch movies, surf the web, play games etc.

But the bikini works, I guess.

Yeah man, I'll have to watch that advert again and listen more carefully - I was too busy looking at her diddies the first couple of times as well

So, where is the line where profit margins become obscene?

Like all 'obscenity' it's one of those things where "We know it when we see it". :)

But his point is clear, and worthy of thought. Apple makes bigger profits than just about any business anywhere. So Amazon is settling for a little less profit to give us a value choice v. Apple.

Why should you criticize Amazon for that?

BTW, if you read the full article about Amazon's operating loss, it's supposedly because they're investing heavilly on future products right now. It has nothing to do with the 'failure' of their current business model.

How many of these "can't read my tablet in the sun" commercials is Amazon going to make? And for that matter, why couldn't the guy with the iPad go read in the shade if the Kindle Fire kids were?

I have a Kindle Touch and an iPad 2, love them both, but these commercials from Amazon aren't working for me. I loved the original commercials that had the cool stop motion (is that what it's called?) storytelling going on and the catchy music. They should go back to that style.

Kindle only has one advantage which is reading in sunlight. They lost that feature with the Kindle Fire.

Two advantages, the other is weight. It's a lot easier to read one-handed with a Kindle. Other than those two advantages though, I agree the iPad is better in every way.

That said, I think the ad will be effective. Many people won't use most of the iPad's capabilities, and the ad very effectively highlights how much more an iPad costs.

Or we can throw the word out whenever we want cause no one can prove otherwise. :D

Talking about profit margins, that's obviously not true.

So Amazon is settling for a little less profit to give us a value choice v. Apple.

I didn't criticize Amazon at all. I think it's a great commercial that clearly targets the market that the Kindle Fire was designed for.

BTW, if you read the full article about Amazon's operating loss, it's supposedly because they're investing heavilly on future products right now. It has nothing to do with the 'failure' of their current business model.

Yep. I think that's pretty obvious.

terrible comparison. both get you from point a to point b. And the cost of regular maintenance on a range rover is more than the price of an ipad.

What have you been smoking??? American cars became luxury crap several years ago, even the $35K+ cars.

I had an expensive Pontiac which had leaks through the Sunroof. I took it to the dealer several times, and told me the drainage tubes were clogged. The problem continued for several years, having to take the car to have the drainage unclogged.
Then one day I decided to go online, and found out lots of people were having the same problem. Gathering information from the web, I located the drain tubes, just to find to my surprise that when the drainage tubes were installed, the idiot in charge forgot to puncture the opening of the adaptor that connected the pipe to the outside. So it was like having a tube with one end closed.
After that, I promised not to buy any more P.O.S. American car.

After being under fire, at the border of bankrupt and others going throughout bankruptcy, American Car Companies are starting to improve, but the people working there are the same lame and careless people who don't like their jobs and make stupid mistakes like the one assembling my car did.

I do have to admit that the luxury American cars are very comfortable to drive. It's like riding on a leather couch. Very comfortable... until it leaks or breaks.

great value for poor people

I had one in my hand 4 days ago. Well, i can only say, great value for poor people and grandmas.
