Very interested in an amazon phone. I'm getting sucked into amazon services more and more. Their ecosystem is becoming addicting.

I hope the 3d can be turned off or toned down like the 3ds' s 3d is.

"appear" is the word here...

Its not true 3-D, just looks like it because of the four-cameras...

Nice try, and attempt, but bring out something when you really have something to show off.

Amazon may in this lead, but any company could have done this, and call it 3-D..... nothing special.

However, Apple always plays "the waiting game" and also allot of things are delayed, this could be a good since Apple likes to do the best, and do it right (hopefully), so I'm just waiting and see what they have up their sleeves.

However, its not bad

I promise you this is going to be Amazon's demise. To suddenly compete in an area you have no clue in, with global financial markets on the brink, only the big ones will survive, and this category will only drag Amazon down to the gutter.

I promise you. Such a bummer. I love to shop on Amazon, and thats it! Shop! Nother more, no Kindle crap, no Streaming crap, just shopping for what its made for.

Be smart Amazon, stay focused on what u do best. Invest in faster shipping times instead.

1up if u agree.
:apple:

People and analyst said the same thing about Apple. I believe amazon is going surprise everyone and come out on top. I think apple and samsung should keep an eye on them.

I'm interested anyway

In the late '90s, Apple decided to consolidate operations to those that it could do best. Apple stopped making PDAs, printers, cameras, and everything but computers, monitors, and some software.

Then rumors came out about Apple making an MP3 player and most everybody belittled the concept. Why would Apple go back into the same non-essential businesses that cost Apple so much money and reputation before? The rest is history.

So with Amazon turning Prime into a streaming business, they compete with Apple in the "digital content delivery" market. Apple complements its market with devices such as iPhones and iPads. Right now Amazon has tablets covered, but is missing a cellphone. Right now Kindles and iPads serve separate markets anyway. If you want a new, $400+ tablet, you get an iPad. If you want a new, $200- tablet, you get a Kindle. The Amazon cellphone, likewise, will probably be priced 1/2 the iPhone 5C, and serve a market the 5C does not serve.

Nonetheless, so many people here attack Amazon, even though a new cellphone is so much more related to Amazon's core business than an iPod ever was for Apple 12 years ago. In fact, I would even wager, as a share of profit, Amazon's new cellphone and tablet ecosystem in 2014 will be greater than Apple's entire computer ecosystem is to Apple's profit.

Yea never been into 3D stuff any ways.. But the idea of amazon launhing a phone is exciting .. but I think when " project ara" hits the map every bodys going to forget about every thing.. That ***** gonna be CRAY CRAY

Everyone needs 3D phones; if my phone was only two dimensional, I can imagine it would be pretty trick to grab hold of.

Don't get comfy yet. With the way they keep redesigning the iPhone soon it will only exist in two-dimensions. With battery life that poor people will use up the charge cycles on the Li-Ion very fast, so folks will have to buy new iPhones more often. Apple will begin selling them in decks like playing cards so you can just hook up your new iPhone when your old one wears out, sync all your contents back on in iTunes, and carry on for another month or so.

I though 3D was abandoned after the HTC Evo 3D because it just doesn't matter in a smartphone.

I thought fingerprint sensors were abandonned after that Android phone (Motorola i think?) because it just doesn't matter in a smartphone.

Lol. All the people here snubbing a product that hasn't even been released yet. Because there is simply no way 2014 3D can be any different or better than 2009 3D.

Hmmm..... Having played with a Fire HD, I suspect it will be Apple level usable. But, if you think Apple is a closed ecosystem, wait 'til you see Amazon.

U can load play store apps onto the kindle fire alongside the amazon store stuff... Not exactly Apple level of closed in eh?..

I don't understand Amazon's business plan.

Luckily Jeff bezoz, the multi billionaire CEO does...

----------

Take a breather my friend, it's all just irrelevant.

Yup. At least Microsoft made THEIR OWN OS, are focused on the UX and are making an effort; Windows Mobile, Windows Desktop - very much like Apple, in that respect, and (apart from app lack) very smooth and appealing, so I hear. I may not like WinMo or Windows 8.1, but their work, although a tad misguided and late to the party, is good and solid.

Android... the "whore" of operating systems; available to vendors for free, dressed up in gaudy clothes and sold as "iPhone killaaaa", whilst it's code base veers further and further off target (if they even have one).

Riiiight...

Every gadget vendor sees Android as "that free OS we can use, and hide it so people think it's our OS" - a bit like Desktop Linux, (only Desktop Linux is actually okay, and very useful).

If the logo doesn't put you off Android, Android will put you off Android:

Image

Bleh - let them destroy each other, and even if they don't, the quality control of these Android device vendors is so laughable, that iOS is standing, insulated, calmly laughing, no matter the outcome (it always was - it existed before Android was even a pipe dream) :D

Does that feel better now fella, now that you've got it off your chest.... I can see it's been brewing up a while...

It kind of sucks that there is pretty much nothing these companies can do to get me to switch away from my iPhone.

I've had everyone iPhone since the first one on launch day and there is nothing enticing out there, except the next iPhone.

That says so much more about you dude than the quality/lack of quality of the iPhone/it's competitors....

Interactive 3D

If Hologram images projecting out of the screen and allows interaction without touching the screen, there are many applications it can be used. Even keyboard tactile touches, projecting keyboard size according to ones comfortable size in a plane. It all depends on how it is implemented like first gen iPhone created revolution in touch screen phones.

3D... AGAIN? If Nintendo & every TV company in the business blew it, why do Amazon think they're gonna make it work?

Tablets... AGAIN? If Microsoft, IBM & companies in the business blew it, why do Apple think they're gonna make it work? Well now we know how it went...

I doubt Amazon's product will be revolutionary, but you don't know until it's out and if they actually do make it work it would be very interesting.

I smell a gimmick.

3D? Oh God. Didn't 3D fail in the HDTV market already and now they want to make fools of themselves in the smartphone arena? Freakin' idiots.

And people think Amazon stock is worth their overvaluation?

Message to Amazon: stick to your core competencies. Smartphones isn't one of them.

----------

The more competition the better!

This won't be competition. At least not for Apple. The only thing this thing is going to compete for is how fast it fails. So far, HP has the award for the quickest product pulled from the market with that Palm tablet that was pulled off the market after a week. I think the Zune is a runner up being pulled after a couple of years. I'm trying to think of other examples of failures in the high tech gadget industry.

This WILL be another one.

I'm surprised they are still selling Kindle. I haven't heard much discussion on their market share numbers, but I'm sure they aren't that great anymore. I still don't see many people using them in public places.

The Kindle is great but the OS and UI suck. Stick to what you're good at, Amazon, and that's dodging taxes and customer service.

Amazon has as much business making a phone as Dell does making music production software.

Stick to what you know.

As much as I also don't expect much of an Amazon smartphone (at least not in comparison to my iPhone working together with the Apple ecosystem I have chosen) - by this logic, Apple should never have tried themselves on a smartphone, too ... (And please don't come with an argument attempt like "computers are already nearer to a smartphone than selling books" - Amazon already has its Kindles etc., they are playing in the same game now - with a differently weighted business model, though, when it comes to how to make money with the hardware/content ...)

I don't think it's that, but rather the fact Amazon believes 3D would be an impetus to buy its phone vs another w/o 3D. Manufactured 3D effects is not a new concept and not on any consumers' feature "wish list" for really any product. It doesn't matter what year it is, they always flop. Not because they don't work as advertised but because it's annoying once the novelty wears off.

LOL. Gotta laugh seeing "Amazon" and "profit" in the same sentence since Amazon rarely has a profit. Sort of like Mr. Softy's gaming products--lose money on every sale, and make it up in volume.:p

Do you really believe that Amazon don't make a profit at the end of the year because they really "don't make any profit".. Wow. So naive...

Just what the world needs...another cheap phone. Why do tech companies these days all think they need to play in each other's space?

Nope. Fingerprint sensor=security. 3D=gimmick.

Why don't you take one of your eyes out if you think 3D is a gimmic?

What a dumb thing to say!

3D is what we want and what we will have.
It's just that tech needs to grow to a point when it's actually possible to offer 3D in a manner we will enjoy.

So, if someone built a real working Star Trek Holodeck, you'd say pah, gimmic, and dismiss it as junk huh?

Same with films and all else.
If the technology was there to just sit there and see characters coming out or into the screen (like looking out a real window) then we'd all want it.

Perhaps even in time we shall have an interactive character walking around the room with us.

3D and such things are not junk, it just needs time to get there, and, as with all things we are doing the best we can, and trying the best we can with what we have.

I guess you would of been standing next to your horse, looking at the 1st cars to be made and said, pah junk, no one wants one.

Just have to give it time.

What's so special about Amazon? They're not the only company with infrastructure and R&D costs. But it seems like they're one of the few for-profit companies that can get away with little to no profit, on the promise of future profits.

Looks like it's time to upgrade from my FaceBook phone....

Ask any kid who owns a Ninetnedo 3DS...they turn the 3D off. Look at the sales of 3D TVs....they can't convince the purchasers to pony up another $200 for the 3D version. Now, it certainly is a gimmick. If they came out the holodeck technology, that would be different, but they are not even close.
