Marketing 101: sex sells.

She is certainly not bad looking. Oh yeah, she was holding a Kindle too.

oh yeah, I ****ing HATE sitting in a swim suit by the pool next to attractive women. ****ing HATE it.

Yes Ben,

Because there is ALWAYS women especially hot women sitting at every pool. Here we go, marketing working beautifully; your subconscious has made the perception that this exist everywhere

I can't remember a time I was at a pool without at least one hot woman sitting nearby.

If you spent $150 on glasses and $190 on a Kindle 3G, you still need to spend another $160 to get to the cheapest iPad model ($500).

Outdoors? In sunlight? Well, I am a vampire, so I can relate to that last one.

Did you skip math? ;)

Ok, Peter....

Since the point of this topic is to calculate "ruff" numbers.

Taking the add literal, let's say they were $189 and the kindle was $190 (still cheaper technically...add tax and we are very close now.....you've missed the issue. That's the most worthless argument for amazon to use.
I know, one could get two things for the price of one

Hahahahaha

Oh, ok

Well, it's kind of like expecting to see an elephant at the zoo, right? It's a place for hot chicks to go. Society basically shames non-hot, overweight women from even going to pools by berating them for wearing swimwear in public.

All upside for men!

Wow. Can't wait to go poolside with my iPad and start conversations with beautiful women reading on a Kindle. The guy in the add dropped the ball.

Amazon CAN"T compete against the iPad. iPad has so many uses beyond e-book reading that they are trying to hang their hat on the one little wart the iPad has: That is doesn't work well in direct sunlight. BFD!

Apple could counter that Amazon should give sunscreen with every Kindle to prevent skin cancer, since it obviously only works in direct sun.

I think the term is "grasping for straws."

Another iTard who fails to grasp with eReaders are about.

Kindles are becoming so inexpensive now that it's no biggie to buy one just for outdoor reading. Most iPad owner's spend nearly as much on accessories. I see the Kindle as a complementary device to the iPad rather than a competing one.

I figure he was to busy being frustrated by the little blue icon on millions of websites that you can't view on the ifad.

Isn't the woman in this ad just as smug and smarmy as Justin Long was accused of being in the I'm a Mac ads?

I think it's overlooked because she's a... woman!

Despite the merits of the ad, the kindle ads over here (in the UK) are pretty much in the same vein as the apple ads. They're obviously targeting the same consumers.

Personally, I'll stick to anti-glare paper.

No, I did not jump to conclusions, the poster I was replying to was pretending audiobooks were superior to an ereader...It's you that's jumping to conclusions.

You got lost.

Look at my post, follow my quote back to your post, and you will see that it was me you were responding to.

Maybe that was unintentional, but that is the way it happened.

It is handy the way all the quotes are linked together.

And you are happy telling me this why ? I was not replying to you, why do you feel the need to justify yourself ?

Here is what you told me:

Maybe you should set aside time to have the full experience of actually reading the book...

Now you understand why I said I read 15-20 books a week? How would you respond? Maybe you didn't intend to tell ME that instead of the other guy, but that is the way it happened.

I would agree with your comment if it was aimed at the original poster who would rather listen then read, but there is a place for both.

An hour later the woman turns around and ask the guy reading a paperback book.

"How are you still reading the book. My Kindle ran out of juice cause I forgot to charge it."

Guy response:

"Silly b*tch. This book is printed on paper, and doesn't requires power. Maybe you should save the money you spent on the sunglasses and Kindle and buy a clue."

Sure, but this one comes with boobs.
If over 10 hours isn't enough battery life(probably a lot more if strictly reading)I'd love to know why.
The over-all selling point of the Kindle (and other such devices) isn't strictly the no-glare e-ink display, it's the e-ink, the size/weight, and the long battery life, all of which add up to one thing: it is as close to picking up a book and reading as you're going to get on such a device. You don't have to worry about battery life on a book, and you rarely have to worry about it with a Kindle (especially when compared with every other device you have to keep charged).
The battery life basically means that it's always charged. There's rarely that surprise, "Oh have I been using it so much today that I have to recharge it already?" Rather, "Oh I've got about a quarter charge left... maybe I should turn wireless off in case I forget to recharge in the next 3 or 4 days." I plug mine in about every week and have never had to stop reading in order to plug the thing in.

Does the Kindle work with polarized sunglasses? The radio in my truck is hard to see, also reading the gas pump screens, when wearing my sunglasses.

Probably all people posting here already know the pros and cons of the ipad and kindle and could argue both sides if they wanted. Many people don't though, and the ad is design for those people wondering what they should get.

Most pools at hotels have adjustable umbrellas, so I'm sure the guy could of found somewhere to read his ipad, but it would of been a bit farther away from Ms Kindle.

Also no monthly fee for Kindle if you want to go that way. But maybe the guy is using the hotel wifi and not buying a new Kindle every four months.

1/3 of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives.

42 percent of college graduates never read another book after college.

80 percent of U.S. families did not buy or read a book last year.

70 percent of U.S. adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years.

57 percent of new books are not read to completion.

BUT...

Each day in the U.S., people spend 4 hours watching TV, 3 hours listening to the radio and 14 minutes reading magazines.

Thats not a positive

Simple decision bro.. if you read more in the sunlight then you do in the shadow altogether with browsing the web, play games, listen to music, chating, etc then ipad is not for you.
I think this ad is joke unless you are kind of guy who always caries toilet paper with you just in case.

I figure he was to busy being frustrated by the little blue icon on millions of websites that you can't view on the ifad.

Wow. Whining about Flash in a non Flash-related thread should automatically cause the closure of said thread, just like bringing up the Nazis.

Since we're already there, go back to your burrow, run some Flash on your Kindle, then come back and bore us some more with your whining.

It's all about choice. None of this matters, people buy things because they want them and do something for them. To each their own. If all you want to do is read books or e-books... a Kindle is a nice choice. If you want to do more... go for an iPad... more? Go for a laptop.

No one is better than the other... they are all different filling different needs. Buy what you want or need and be happy. Simple. :)

Wow, Amazon just totally kicked Apple's a** right there.:)

Well, there you have it ... but no iPad owner expects to be able to view his iPad in bright sunlight.

So what is it that got kicked?

God,

It's me Rob again. I know I haven't been to confession in a long time. But I think it's time we have a talk. The iPad's screen is unbelievably glossy. Is there any way in your infinite power to have an anti-glare screen on it? It would really allow for better viewing outdoors, and it would save the world from these annoying ads. I would suggest that you might want to check with your boss, Mr. Jobs first.

Rob

Keep the glossy screen, Rob. It enables us to watch the scantily clad beauties next to us while we appear to be reading from our iPad.

great Ad stupid idea

WTF, wouldn't you be worried of those devices getting wet, who brings that stuff to a pool? No wonder why i deal with so much water damage. great execution but the kindle is just stupid, the only thing it has that the kindle app doesn't have is the ability to hold a magazine subscription on it.
