Didn't expect such an aggressive move by Amazon. Great ad, hits the spot for what they want to do.

Then again, who cares if your iPad can't be read in sunlight when you've got women as lovely as that to ogle :D

Love to know what percentage of iPad users do outdoor use like this? Also, if I was there with a hot girl like that, I wouldn't be reading.

this is just begging for parody.

like him watching a movie and she asks if she can watch with him

him checking the weather getting up and her sitting there with rain falling down

her saying she'd tired of reading and he agree's and switches to a game

:D

Then he turns the brightness back up on the iPad, and you see that he could have been reading a book the whole time.

So clearly, the point is this: Buy an iPad and hot, booksmart*, bikini-clad women will talk to you. Right?

*Assuming she's reading something intellegent and not Twilight for the Nth time.

I don't understand all the Apple haters. Apple is not for everyone. Just like a Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes is not for everyone. If you want the better car you buy it. If not, then you don't buy it. No need to nit pick with all the Apple fans pointing out the only flaw of the iPad is not being able to read it in direct sunlight and no Flash. I am glad Flash is not on the iPad. Plus many big/small businesses and hospitals are incorporating the iPad into their work flow. I am sure they could care less about the sun's glare on their screen or why buggy Flash is not installed on their new business device.

He probably didn't want to read in the first place, he just brought out the iPad as an ice breaker.

BUT...

Each day in the U.S., people spend 4 hours watching TV, 3 hours listening to the radio and 14 minutes reading magazines.

Thats not a positive

Thats not a positive

Why didn't these investment bankers take a poll as to how much time people read newspaper and magazine articles on a computer – or some other electronic device?

When I watch a TV program such as NCIS and Rizzoli & Isles, I expect to spend an hour in the story. When I pick up my sudoku puzzles, I can work a few minutes here and there, and I can come back to them. Once I am engrossed in a book, I will want to read until I finish the story. That was Brothers Karamazov. Fifty years ago! But don't take this to mean that was the last book I read because that was prior to college.

You got lost.

Look at my post, follow my quote back to your post, and you will see that it was me you were responding to.

Follow it all the way to the beginning and you'll see my original response was to the fellow named Gnasher. You somehow felt involved and replied. Why should I assume your position is different than his ? My responses were in the context that the original argument was that audiobooks were a superior form of books and that reading is not as good as listening to some narrator.

I don’t read in the sun much, but if I did, that’s a niche the Kindle is great for! And your Kindle books will work on your iPad too—so you can have the best of both worlds.

If I were only buying one, of course, I’d take the million-function iPad.

Are you sure you don't want to spend $139 for the single task device? :D

Buy an invisible shield. $29.99 and you'll not only protect your screen you'll take care of that glare as well.

Also notice in the shots of him looking at the screen that the brightness was about minimum, the autobrightness on the ipad would've cranked it up full.

Nevertheless, well played Amazon.

The iPad has one feature that Kindle does not-books in color. The '80's called Amazon-they want their black and white screen back!

All Apple has to do is release an add showing a guy reading in complete darkness while his wife is sleeping on the other side of the bed...

Such a silly thing to nit-pick.

Pro gay commercial...

Sorry, but the reality in life is that:

1. NO HUMAN BEIGN NEVER takes computers to the beach or to the pool. That thing of "you can edit video or do work even from the beach/pool" is such cheesy and unrealistic statement.

2. Who in their senses is going to be using an iPad having such hot girl in bikini besides him? Unless he is gay or has deep inferiority complex.

So, the scene described in the video is totally unrealistic. I understand Amazon wants to make a point, but even I am Apple's devils advocate, I do not see the Kindle being superior on anything compared to the iPad.
