Apple should copy chromecast and release a smaller device that's similar to the chomecast. It's very efficient. Why do we need a remote when we have a smartphone with us 24/7 that's full of apps we can stream to the TV? It's much better. Having another remote around and another set of apps to update and organize is overkill. Google got the idea right with the chomecast. Apple should copy and improve the idea.

Better solution: Amazon should release a Prime Video app for the new Apple TV.

This only means Apple users will buy their devices elsewhere and be less likely to subscribe to Amazon Prime.
Yup. For the first time since I got my Prime membership, I'm considering cancelling it. I'll be buying an Apple TV, and that leaves no room for my Roku 3. I was holding on to the hope that they would put out their own app, but it doesn't look good.

I don't follow your logic. There are tons of other streaming apps on the current generation Apple TV. If Apple wanted Prime, they would have Prime. It may be closed as in there is no app store, but it's not like Apple couldn't load it like they do all the others.

And I was actually referring to the new Apple TV. In every video/screen shot I've seen, including searching across services, I have never seen Prime show up. If it shows up soon after launch, great. But as of right now it just feels like Apple is still being exclusionary. I would be happy to be wrong.

Well, they're not going to give their competitor an out of box place, but they aren't going to stop them from submitting an app like any other developer. It's just kind of good business. Yeah it's a slight jab but they aren't prohibiting anyone.

Some serious extremists here...

I buy a lot from Amazon but all this means is that some other retailer will get my money for an Apple TV.

Wasn't Bose suing Beats as well? Probably had something to do with it. That said, it's not a good example. Apple Stores sell Apple products and some accessories for those products. Amazon is just an online mall. It's like Walmart removing Frosted Flakes because it competes with their store brand flakes.
Do you really think Walmart doesn't choose what they sell? It IS a good example because Apple dropped someone that became a competitor. Stop defending Apple just because they are Apple.

I don't understand why Apple acts so threatened by Amazon Prime. They're cool with Netflix, HBO, Hulu, but Amazon has a paltry selection of a few streaming movies on their Prime subscription and Apple blocks it from Apple TV? I don't get it. I know for a fact that many of my friends have gone for Roku or XBox and skipped out on Apple TV altogether because of its lacking of Amazon Prime. Honestly I find the selection of movies on Prime to be pitiful, but some of my friends are huge fans of Transparent and I will definitely be using Prime when the new Woody Allen series debuts.

Do any of the streaming services you mention make you pay for some content after you're already a streaming subscriber? No. Amazon Video does.

It's probably not so much about Prime subscriptions, but about the fact that Amazon also sells and rents individual movies and TV shows just like iTunes does. They are the #2 behind iTunes in the video electronic sell-through market. Note that other players in this market (like Vudu and Flixster) are also not on the Apple TV.

Please show us a list of when Apple has done this exact same thing and got a pass? I distinctly remember when Apple was pulling Bose out of their stores because of their acquisition of Beats. This forum and a few others on the internet went into an uproar against Apple attempting this. But go ahead, I'm waiting for you to show me where Apple has gotten passes for their adverse antics against their competitors.

The main page thread was mostly 'good, bose sucks anyway' comments... or shall we dispense with the bull and call them what they were, "excuses" for it. I saw nothing that could be remotely classified as uproar here. It was much more the opposite. Same with fitbit...

There are still plenty of songs not available through Apple Music that you have to purchase if you want them.

Walmart sells a lot more in their online store. Why? Because shelf space is limited and valuable. Exact same thing Apple has done with Bose. Replace Bose with Apple's branch, what company wouldn't, and move Bose to their online store.

They do carry Bose in their online store. If you had limited shelf space, would you carry your own product or a competitors. Of course yours, there's no question about it BUT apple still carries Bose online. All Amazon has is online and they just decide to wipe it out. I don't get why you don't understand that. Apple STILL CARRIES BOSE!!! Since you clearly have some type of disbelief, here is the link to the online Apple Store with Bose products. http://www.apple.com/us/search/Bose?src=serp
Stop it, they did not take Bose out of the stores for shelf space, they did it because of beats. Jesus h christ.

After my tv broke, for a while, I connected my laptop to my large monitor and used my phone as a remote. I hated having to turn on my phone to every time I wanted to push a button.

Blam bla, rah, rah, sis boom ba. Wave them. Adios for good.

I wish Amazon Prime videos were on the Apple TV, why can't anyone make an agnostic device so I don't need 3 different products to accommodate my style of watching.

I hear ya. Actually, there is an agnostic device: Roku. Unfortunately, its UI looks like hot garbage. But on the plus side, it offers a ton of apps and has had universal search across some of the most popular apps for awhile now. It's still missing HBO Now but that's coming soon. When it arrives, it will be the only set-top platform to offer Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, Showtime, Crackle, CBS All Access, Sling TV, Google Play plus UltraViolet-affiliated services like Vudu and CinemaNow.

My SMART TV (which many people have nowadays) has Amazon video. I don't prefer to use it, but it's there so I have no issue buying an TV without Amazon's video streaming app. Most of the set top boxes people buy have some form of apps on them. My PS4 and my Blu-Ray also have Amazon video. I hardly think most people are going to have an issue being able to use Amazon's streaming service if they buy an TV.

Logic doesn't apply in this thread.

I know I'm really late to this comment party, but why doesn't Amazon just make an app for the new Apple TV? They've already got the codebase for iOS. They just need to adapt the interface. I was actually kind of looking forward to them doing that as they have a pretty extensive selection of children's content.

Support Amazon completely. Love my apple products, but they would go before I cease using Amazon Prime. I am sure Apple is blocking Amazon video because they want a cut and Amazon balked. Really irrelevant since both Fire and Apple TV can't compete with Roku.

I would strongly wager apple is not doing any blocking here. Amazon does not support chromecast or other android based tv devices for instant video either. This is amazons choice alone.

That's not what I said. I said Walmart doesn't remove products that directly compete with their own brands, because it's in their best interest to have people shop at their store no matter what they're buying (which is the case of Amazon as well).

Also, Bose has always been a competitor to Apple. Apple sells their own sound products, EarPods, those Earbuds they have, HiFi, etc. So they didn't drop Bose just because of that, and they sell Bose now.

I'm also not really defending Apple. I'm not sure where you got that from. I'm stating that this is an odd move on Amazon's part. The excuse of customer confusion is a ******** one, and that this isn't going to win anyone over. People will just buy Apple Tvs and Chromecasts from their respective manufacturers, and have less incentive to subscribe to Amazon Prime. To me, it's a stupid decision on Amazon's part.

I don't think they want to, same reason they wont support chromecast or android tv boxes.
