Give Up

Give up on Apple's ability to actually release anything in a timely manner, however Amazon banned me over a dispute regarding a physical purchase and bricked 3 Kindles in the process. I have zero faith and trust in them. So I'll stick with my 2 ATVs (even though they suck).

Seriously doubt it, Apple will fall short as they do with all there product's , people still buy them, but then they bitch and moan that it should have this and they should have done that.

JMO

Because we literally "HAVE" to buy the damn thing. I have 200 digital copy movies that I can only watch on the stupid Apple TV. So I was forced to purchase 2 of them - even though I think the streaming sucks on it. If there was a way to view it through other devices I certainly would have one. And don't even get started on Airplay - it SUCKS and is USELESS for me.

The title alone shows you the mentality of this site vs. the competition. Just look at smartwatches. Every time one is released this site often compares it to the "rumored" iWatch. Comparing real product to vaporware is unrealistic and petty.
Just admit that Amazon released a better product then the hobby grade Apple TV. Stop kissing Apple's butt when the competition has better product.

Bad luck. I've ordered tons of stuff from them (from US, UK, ES and DE, after a quick price match). They cleaned up (and rightfully compensated by giving me vouchers) every time they or their shipping partners made a mistake.

And that's why the Galaxy Gear is so successful

Android wear and Motorola's watch is better but Samsung will catch up if they utilize Googles watch OS. Things change so fast in this landscape. Question is how will Apple respond.

It's actually usable if you use it for native playback. And, in my tests, it proved to be significantly better than MiraCast streaming from my Android devices.

Nevertheless, it's indeed laggy (making any kind of action / racing games unplayable) and has significantly worse image quality than anything wired (or native video playback).

Love the glossy sides and matte top. Amazon must have some really inspired and original designers on staff.

First of all, people should know that Apple doesn't do things based on what the competition does and they certainly aren't going to rush forward a product launch just to launch something before a competitor. Last year Google's streaming music service "beat Apple to the punch" yet, iTunes Radio is the 3rd most popular streaming service in the US behind Pandora and iHeart Radio.

My guess is we haven't seen a new ATV yet because Apple has been trying to get some major content deals. First we heard the rumor about a Time Warner, then Comcast. I suspect a new ATV will be announced at WWDC and then I don't think Amazon's two month lead will mean that much. I mean Amazon had a 7" tablet out at least a year before Apple did and that didn't stop the iPad mini from being a huge seller.

From the article, "While Roku already had voice control on their media streaming box, Amazon has included voice control "that just works" on its Fire TV remote control, allowing users to bypass typing for voice searches."

I owned a Roku 3 for a few months and it definitely didn't have voice search. Am I missing something??

Ok so your saying that you have 200 digital movies through apple that were bought through the apple TV I guess ? Were you having issues of any sort back when you started? and if so why did you continue? Also I am NOT arguing just asking?

TV Shows experience

Yup, the interface looks nice. Also, one thing Aple should do is change the TV Shows experience and make it look a little more like XBMC/Plex. No more navigating long lists of episodes, please.

This is easily fixed - using home sharing: in iTunes I create a folder for each show; and a smart-playlist for each season. So as episodes download, they appear automatically under the correct season.

True though, the interface is clearly not designed for someone purchasing content since 2003: for example no search. And the main list of movies or TVshows is just total rubbish. Why bury playlists in a menu (ok: on top at least) - when they should show instead(!) of the long rubbish list.

yes: great product-very satisfied.
yes: improvement is needed.

Apple is definitely just kicking back seeing their competitors release all these products, while I'm sure the competitors are just as scared for when Apple announces a keynote event and readys to impress everyone.

This Fire TV from Amazon can essentially be a software update from Apple.

Theres a reason why Apple has remained quiet in recent times concerning this space...

It's because they're preparing to strike.

Can't wait for the new Apple TV. :D

I highly doubt Amazon is scared of Apple TV. Unfortunately, PCs' outsell Macs, Androids outsell iPhones, and the Apple TV is no different. I won't buy a PC or Android but most people says they won't buy an Apple. Apple's issue is that they are stuck on "Form" and not working on "Function." They have been coasting along on the success of the iPhone and iPad. Success for them has peaked and they are declining. I certainly hope they offer innovation soon to change course.

I think if Apple added specs like that to the Apple TV they'd raise the price to $199.

I don't want a quad-core CPU and discrete graphics in a box that's always on and should be invisible on my electricity bill.

I guess they have that reputation but it isn't always true. iOS 7 is a direct result of competing with Android. And the things Apple wants to do with TV are probably impossible because the studios have all the power. So in the end it will be difficult to be a major game changer in the TV space. That is probably what is taking them so long to update Apple TV (just can't release what they want).

Having a quad core CPU doesn't mean it will use much power. How about we wait until someone tests it first? For all we know it will use less than the Roku 3 (or something similar).

That's why you don't buy digital movies and lock yourself to one ecosystem.

Nice little box. It really shows that Apple TV either has fallen behind or lacked real attention by Apple.

Hopefully Apple will have something that exceeds this thing, or Amazon's Fire TV will be at the top of the list for many, many consumers (self included). Even if Apple adds game support (with ~$40 physical button controller), voice command (no extra $200+ device required), and a subscription for unlimited streaming of a huge library of programming, that would still put it just under Amazon's device. (That unlimited streaming subscription has other benefits, like free 2-day shipping.)

I'd love to see a TV Internet box that features channels (and series?) a-la-carte. Like not just HBO Go, but also HBO itself through only the TV device. It's crazy to have to pay $50+/month for dozens of channels laden with commercials, watched rarely if ever, just to qualify to pay an extra ~$12/month for HBO (for example).

Amazon' box doesn't have AirPlay so it's a no-go for me.
