I can agree with your critique and I believe the show has more leeway to do this.

I've complained about it before, but I think that the constraints of basic cable and TV as a whole don't allow for the governor to be presented in the same light as he was in the comic book.

For me, what he did to Michonne in the comic book more than justified what she ultimately did to him in return. In the TV show it seemed much less justified.

I wonder if they ever will leave the prison and meet The Hunters on the road to DC. I'm not sure that story line will translate well to the TV medium either.

I actually think we are going to see a version of the hunters in the next few episodes. That is what I kinda saw in the previews for next week. The camp ground and from the looks of it, that is what we are seeing.

Re: Governor, I completely agree. What happens in the comics is pretty darn disturbing!!!!

The TiVo cut off half the preview for me. So, if you're right, yay! Maybe the Hunters will be the ones to get them out of the prison if the ebola-like sickness wasn't enough.

My guess is they'll water it down a bit still.

I believe this is one of those tv compromises. Traveling and coming up with new sets, such as going to DC and settling in Alexandra seems like that could be a challenge of sorts. But they can't stay in the prison for ever, can they? ;)

He does terrible things to her, she responds in triplicate. For those who have not read the comic, it's not all laid out there in graphic detail, but even as it is, the encounter between Michonne and the Governor is some of the most graphic violence I've seen depicted. But note, I've not seen Hostel or any of those type of torture horror films.

Even though it is just a comic book and it is not live action. To me the violence is much more real in the comic book. The fact it is in black and white makes it that much more intense.

I smiled inside when I saw the tank at Martinez's camp. Though it doesn't seem like the Governor will lose an arm before his assault.

mid-season! Still a lot more to come in Feb!

B

Correct, dang it, this mid-season stuff kills me lol..........

However I hope they tie up the governor in this last episode and start fresh for the next half of the season!!!! Well fresh as in, they are on the run and we are introduced to new characters and baddies! Such as the "hunters" etc and or maybe a glimpse of the "saviors".

I can see them pulling a Negan at the end of the season as the wrap up the hunters and/or the internal strife/threat that is (I agree) hinted at in the preview.

I am actually hoping they tie the Governor's story line up within the first few episodes. Be done with it. Time to bring on some new threats not re-hash his.

October can't get here soon enough!

Issue 116 is due shortly. This story arc is called "All Out War".

The events of issue 100 had me picking my jaw up off the floor.

B

I just reached Issue 100 and damn, now I know what "pulling a Negan" (very bad character) means. :( Without spoiling anything, other than referencing conflict, I can only wonder how the screw will turn.

I preferred the comic book version, but this was probably better TV.

B

I agree, but I was still yelling at the TV with joy when a few of the bad characters bit the dust. Between the governor, the girl with the machine gun and the tank guy! I was a happy camper.

I also liked the way they showed the baby is no more (possibly of course). I hope they stick to that!!

All in all I am very happy with the way this played out. Even if one of my favorite characters bit the dust. Loved the smile on his face prior to, was very fitting.

Pretty intense "mid season finale" tonight. The governor's self destructive path is finally at an end.

Heck yeah it was!!!! I am glad to see they finally ended the governor's story arch.

I'll watch the mid season finale tonight. My impression is this split season choice is to keep people watching over a longer calendar period despite having lesser number of episodes.

Regarding the comic, I've just about caught up to the current issue and will purchase future episodes at comixology.com.

I'd like anyone who is familiar with digital comics/Walking Dead digial comic to weigh in...
I've decided to purchase new issues of Walking Dead in electronic form on the comixology.com web site, versus through their Comics app or their Walking Dead app because I am under the impression that if I download the file from their web site, I'll be able to keep it as an electronic .cbr file and can store it on disk. However, if I purchase it through the app, my impression is that although it will download to my ipad, I'll have no ability to store it as a stand alone file, correct?

For example, when I download books through iBooks, they reside on my iPad, but I have no ability to save them to a separate location. When I hook up my iPad to my Mac and look at it via iTunes, there are no documents showing for iBook that could be transferred to my Mac. I assume this will also be true with the Comic App. Thanks!

I haven't tried downloading, but I did just check that all of my purchases made on the iPad are visible from the website too. I've also read comics bought on the iPad on my Kindle Fire.

Note that individual issues of Walking Dead are $1 off ($1.99) about three weeks after they first come out.

Does this mean with your account you could download a .cbr file from the website to your Mac for saving? Also is the $1.99 three weeks later a normal deal? If so I'll probably just wait the 3 weeks for the savings. :)

I wonder how many copies of this series sell each month? A quick online search did not reveal the answer. It is by far the best comic series I've read.

I'm Mac-less at the airport right now, but I will check that out if I can get on the Airport Wifi on my PC with any bandwidth.

EDIT: I get a "Read Comic" link on the website, not a download link. I suspect this has to do with the guided reading features of the comics that go beyond a simple cbr/cbz format.

I think that is one big issue, unless they have updated this, is that you can't back up your files. They are on their servers.

I may start buying from image directly now. They same to do the same $1.99 after a few weeks deal Comixology does.

I suspect that the DRM will go the way of iTunes DRM some day...

B

We can hope. I still buy a majority of my comics from the local comic book store, but I love having them on my iPad also! But if I can't "own" the comic, that turns me off.

Man I was bummed to see Hershel go, we should of gotten a few more episodes out of him!

I was pleased with the finale, it wasn't not as big as the comic book, but I was still liked it!

You are right, not as epic as in the comic. ;) Not that they are holding a standard with the comic, but Hersel died in the comic prison shootout. I realize you know that. :) I'll be curious, now that they are back on the road, how long it will take them to find D.C. (if they find D.C. in the show).
