Two thoughts generally gripped me during last night's episode.

First thought, Darryl is flat out stuck. There's really no out for him at this point. His group has joined Negan's ecosystem. This means that even if he were to find a way to escape that he can't return to Alexandria. So, if escape continues to be an option then his only choice is to leave his former life and friends behind. I can only see two other options available to him. Join Negan or try and kill Negan. These options both seem to likely involve bending to Negan's will, either genuinely for self preservation which is the route Dwight has chosen, or doing so in guile for the purpose of finding an opportunity to take Negan out. However, Darryl seems intent on not "kneeling" to the Negan crown at this point which really keeps things in neutral for the moment. We've seen him "blend in" with that one group in the past as a survival strategy, but Negan is pretty intent on forcing him to make a decision and that choice carries with it immediate consequences.

Second thought, I'm not sure how Negan has survived this long? I get that he's a true villain and that he rules as a dictator by fear and intimidation. That being said, he espouses a worldview of "take what you want" in life and that is going to get him a knife in back from one of his loyal disciples who want to usurp his throne. I think of all the rulers throughout history who were ultimately undone by their own philosophy as it came home to roost. What's that old saying about absolute power? It's intriguing to me that he hasn't had an "et tu Brute" moment yet. Additionally, when you use cruelty to the degree that he has you also run the risk of breaking someone to the point of vengeance or sacrificial justice. I think of the Emperor, Vader, Luke triangle in Star Wars. The Emperor's never ending cruelty and evil will brought Vader to the point that he could no longer take it and had to end the madness. Negan is also primed for this sort of undoing whether it be at the hands of Dwight or another individual that he has pushed too far. Just taking all of this in, it makes me wonder how one of these two things hasn't happened yet. I'm sure we're going to get to watch it happen as that is likely what this story arc is all about.

Daryl is hardcore, he didnt even flinch when negan waved his bat. While Dwight seems weak and just follows the heard. dwight even gave negan his wife to have "fun" Have a feeling dwight will rebel and goes to rick's crew and bring down negan with the help from morgan, carol and everybody from the ezikiel bunch.
the reason why i say this is cause notice when sherry was in the doctors room, their was a pregnancy test meaning negan is having his fun with dwights wife and dwight noticed it...its time for War baby!!!

One thing I notice is Daryl gets broken in spurts. One minutes he doesn't flinch when Negan points Lucille in his direction before being beaten by the henchman, then when Dwight brings him into Negan'a room, and waves Lucille by him or points it at him, he draws back and/or flinches. I think it symbolizes how Daryl is on the cusp of bowing down/revolting.

I think Daryl is bidding his time until the time is right, but also not going to bow down doing so..if and when he does bolt and leave, maybe he'll wind up at The Kingdom with Carol? Or The Hilltop? I would think The Kindgom. But if you think about, all of these communities are connected through their deals/contracts with The Saviors so either way, he technically wouldn't be safe within the radius of a few hundred miles, give or take the actual distance between all of these communities.

I get it, but I hope they don't spend the rest of the first half of the season making us wallow in domineering Negan style. Maybe we see a spark of rebellion in, make me a bullet, that will turn into an inferno.

I'm foggy on the comic, but I don't remember them taking all the guns from Alexandria. Could someone confirm? Thanks!

I thought they did have an arrangement and Rick decided it was a bad arrangement and told the Saviors it was over. Isn't that what started it all?

S7, E4 "Service" seems to give the impression that this is the first time Negan/Saviors have been to Alexandria? Or maybe they just restructured the contract? Not to mention Spencer's "We should have made a deal with them..." comment

Negan seemed awfully carefree and vulnerable when galavanting throughout Alexandria. Being that nonchalant seems like it may play into his downfall way down the line. Far too many instances presented themselves to attack.

Another disheartening attempt at breaking the characters.

If it's been a little under a week, there seems to be some drastic weather changes between E1 & E4.

Dwight just got the sympathy feels last week, now he's back to his curmudgeon self.

I hope Father Gabriel repents for his lies!

Will Father Gabriel's lie come back to haunt him?

Rick pulled Spencer's card and boy did the deck fold quick. Ha.

Liked the Shane reference.

Felt Michonne's pain/rage at her discovery.

Looks like a revolution is brewing!

Overall a good episode, but for the length, I expected a little more action than tense. Looks like traditional TWD mapping of the storyline, we have three different arcs all over the place.

Very different from the book. The episode was mostly #103 in which Rick reveals to Andrea his plan. Look scared, but plan the counterattack with his closest allies. Not clear that this will be the dynamic in the show at all.

It's the first time. They didn't know where Alexandria was yet. They learned of the Saviors from the Hilltop who did have an active deal with them.

I remember episode 103, thanks. I can only take so much of Negan's SE grin. :D

Anybody know what happened at the end when Michonne saw the wreck at the end of the episode? I wasn't paying attention and just saw a brief glimpse of it with her in shock. Nothing was really happening so was kind of surprised when I saw the look on her face.

negan burned all their mattresses. thats why she was shocked. i couldnt tell either when they showed it but they said it on 'Talking dead' that they were the mattresses.

That was an awful scene. They burnt the mattresses just for the sake of burning them, the saviors didn't need them, they took them just for the sake of letting the Alexandrians know they can and just want to spread despair.

I guess it's going to be interesting to see how Rick reacts to this and how he moves on/overcomes the fear of Negan. We've now seen two groups (The Kingdom, Alexandria) where one doesn't have fear (The Kingdom) and one is scared ******** (Alexandria) so I'm definitely intrigued to see how Rick and the rest get up to page with The Kingdom where you can live a more reasonable life yet not be totally afraid to stand up to Negan and his people.

Well I think members of The Kindgom live like they do because King Zeke shields them from The Saviors. He even shared some of that in the conversation with Carol about people being contributing members and if they feared for their safety they couldn't do that. The Hilltop is different as in all members witnessed The Saviors (Negan) kill one of their own younger teens (Lucille'd) so they fear because they have seen/know.

Someone please tell me what happened to Jesus? I can't believe I forgotten... Did they just leave him somewhere so he can pop in and help later?

And here I am thinking Jesus is the Savior, right?! But it was good to see him in the sneak peek. Interesting now that it will shift back to The Hilltop...surely Jesus' loyalty might be questioned. Gregory may try to use Maggie's unfulfilled promise against her.

Side note: I still think Gregory is a rat and think he may have played a part in Rick and Company's capture or at least tipped off Negan/The Saviors somehow that he knew who ambushed one of their bases.

S7,E5: "Honey, I'm talking to Jesus!"

karl & sasha are up to something, they could infiltrate the saviors and kill negan...i liked when maggie said: "i am maggie Rhee" which is Glenns last name

S7, E6. More corny/awkward dialogue moments in this episode as well.

More driving home just how dangerous The Saviors are....but do we really need that? I guess the writers want to really show the force or how big The Saviors are, but are they going to be an impenetrable force to never be broken? With as much time they are spending on the gloom and despair The Saviors have caused upon multiple camps/communities, etc. it seems they want the payout to be more sweet when/if The Saviors are ever defeated.

On the upside, great to always see an ember of hope for humanity (Cyndie).

When Tara reunited at the gate with Eugene...that hurt just as much as when Michonne saw the burned mattresses a few episodes back.

Maybe Oceanside will be revisited...or at least their cache of weapons

All of the women in the group now have a fire lit inside of them...and women scorned can be a force...so I've heard

That is 4 colonies, i think thats enough soldiers, time for a war :) plus they has the blueprints to make bullets and they have a tiger

Haven't read the comic but is it ever hinted at how many colonies/survivors there are that The Saviors don't know about or is it more to with that The Saviors already have such a big army that it doesn't matter because they'll just take you out?
