Haven't read the comic but is it ever hinted at how many colonies/survivors there are that The Saviors don't know about or is it more to with that The Saviors already have such a big army that it doesn't matter because they'll just take you out?

Thats hard to say cause rick and company started out at Atlanta but started to travel north to the Carolinas, USA is a big place there could be thousands of other colonies in every state

Without any real spoilers...

We have now met versions of all the communities known in the comic, but there are other non-settled groups (some large) we meet later.

S7,E7- Lots of psychological warfare. This episode seems like the first since the opener which is actual story movement rather than catching up with filler.

-Carl's entry into the sanctuary, was totally unrealistic. After that conversation he had with Enid, and literally blasting the guys in the truck, why would you eye Negan down/talk to him if you came that far? Just shoot him, my goodness.

-To that same extent, Negan's men seem to be tame...someone trying to attack or assassinate your fearless leader yet instead of killing the threat on site, you simply neutralize for torture purposes? I get for the sake of telling a story and the worse than death stuff but avenge your fallen my goodness.

-Dwight seems to still be teetering on the edge of rebellion against Negan, especially after walking in on that kiss.

-Spencer, did your grave now dude.

Interested to see what Spencer, Rosita and Eugene do. Surrender everything, including non inventoried items? Will Rosita use that one bullet soon?

-Interested to see how things will boil over when Rick returns. Will they surrender everything?

-The lead up to the mid season finale seems kind of timid this time around, but hopefully they can pack it with a lot of action to recoup for some of the slower moments thus far.

wait a second, mid-season finale? what does that mean? and when will it continue? this episode was kinda slow.
No new episodes until Feb. after next week.

@CaptMarvel This ep was largely from the book (#104-#106). However, in the book Carl is still a much younger kid. So it makes a lot more sense that he would not kill him. It does feel a bit more odd here, but is mostly in line with how he is treating Daryl.

Season 7 Mid-Season Finale- I actually watched this when it was broadcast and liked it!

My easy guess is the Saviors conflict will extend to next season. I presume hostilities will break out the second half of this season or lead up to hostilities by the end of the season, but no way wrapped up. Watch me be wrong. :p

S8, E8.

Overall I felt it was too many loose ends trying to be fused or tied back together BUT at least this should make for more consistency in the back half of the season.

As far as reality goes, more things that just seemed badly written or just seemed like they'd never happen...like Aaron surviving the walkers in the lake unscathed AND Rosita's bullet striking Lucille...C'MON.

The family reunion was emotionally great, like so great I was expecting something bad to happen to disrupt that moment.

The group is finally realizing it's about teamwork...rather than personal vendettas. Guess we will see how that plays out.

Chances of fate. :) Not to be disagreeable but it did not seem poorly written to me. The group was split up for a welcome change of pace and now they are coming back together. I had no issues with the pacing or different directions they went in.

By comparison with the comic book they tend to cover a little more than one issue per episode. By parallels, we're between "What Comes After" (Volume 18) and "March To War" (Volume 19/issue 109/episode 91). The real Saviors hostilities are after that and have the potential to last ALL of next season if they keep the pacing about the same.

With the additions to the story (like boat/boot man) they may actually even slow things down a bit.

Finally rick woke up, time to fight! next season will be great. glad Darryl escaped and the team is reunited. and who was that mysterious person with the black boots?

Not the whole episode per se, just those particular parts. Like how the characters narrowly escape peril in unrealistic situations, but for sake of the story they do...even when other similar events in the same show don't seem to work out for other characters, if that makes sense.

Exhibit A - On the bridge with Heath, Tara is overrun by zombies that are literally all over her and is flipped over the bridge with said zombies, yet survives unbitten or scratched.

Exhibit B - Aaron being yanked underwater in the lake with surrounding zombies pulling him under, yet he out snorkels them and makes it to the boat.

Exhibit C - Bob couldn't even wade water while scavenging the basement pantry back in season 5 without receiving a fatal flesh wound.

Meh, guess its a mixture of fate/story character arc and progression. I'm sure in the comics its not as noticeable, but on screen things like that stand out, to me at least.

As far as the split up, that recipe is quite repetitive for TWD, sometimes its good, sometimes not so good. But with the band back together, it definitely allows for everything to seem cohesive rather than getting tidbits scattered throughout and connecting the dots after time traveling around to different points in time/location.

One can only hope when Carol finds out the brutality Negan has inflicted by executing Glenn and Abe, she will become her old self. I wonder if Morgan would be swayed to change his ways by those same tragedies though...

The separated story lines have not bothered me.

My impression was that Aaron was not yanked under, but went under on his own to escape the area. The ability of zombies to detect living humans under water seems to be a gray area. ;) We know that covering yourself in zombie slime provides a disguise based on smell. Yet we see an underwater zombie trying to grasp at Nick in FTWD. I don't believe their smelling could be that good. :D

I believe some event will trigger Carol back into action. I'd hate that to be the death of Morgan with whom she seems to have the closest human connection with, although at one point, I thought she was getting close to Daryl.

True indeed on the walkers and water abilities /senses. Sometimes FTWF does blur or complicate things as it makes it seems like those characters adapt or learn things rather quickly as opposed to Rick and Company slowly adapting...taking into account that these story lines are supposed to be years apart.

About Carol, looking at the mid season finale last night, even thought Carol said she wants to be left alone and wants no one to know her whereabouts, I feel like when Jesus takes the group to meet Ezekiel, Daryl will somehow stumble upon Carol's location, by following Ezekiel or something to her house since Ezekiel seems to frequent there quite often.

I really liked last night's episode. Especially the ending, with all the smiling and hugging. It's so unusual for this show!

It will be interesting to see what happens when they approach Ezekiel and the Kingdom, and how the Morgan/Carol storylines continue to play out.

Time for war!

Unless perhaps the "boot man" (and others) play a supporting role that might hasten the confrontation(s) with the Saviors.

'the black boots' person could be:

carol (doing her homework)
heath (maybe he found another colony)
dwight (becoming a rebel and wants to unite with rick)
walter white (is done with the meth business) :D

There's also that whole you win but you lose note too that might mean more.

True. There are a few other variables that could affect things.
  1. Oceanside - we didn't know about them in the comics until later and they were rather different.
  2. Chandler Riggs - rumor has it his contract is over and thus Carl may be "departing"
  3. They didn't get the bullet factory humming before Neagn grabbed Eugene.
However, I think 8 episodes is too little to deal with the coming war. If nothing else i susp ft it will spill over into midseason next year.

I'm all for getting rid of Carl if they don't give the boy a haircut!

Actually, all my thoughts revolved around aesthetics during this last episode. I don't understand how Carol and Maggie always look like they've just been to the salon, yet Rick, Carl, and Darryl look like they haven't seen a razer or scissors since the show began.

I think he has been awake the whole time, why I think he was holding back was because they had Darryl. I don't think he will hold back anything even with them now having Eugene.

I really liked the episode. I am too am curious as to who the man in boots is. I don't remember anybody like this or who was introduced this way in the books. So he/she might be a new character.

The difference in hygiene and appearance in the post apocalyptic world between the sexes at least in some cases? Spencer Monroe looked pretty sharp until he found himself on the pointy end of sharp. ;) As I look back on colonial times, I think shaving and hair cutting might be a burden. I assume in the P-AW, that razors, and scissors could come up in short supply. I imagine in reality, many of the women would be wearing their hair longer, and their underarms and legs, would be on the bushy side but would this do for network TV? :)
