Wow, some good misinformation in this thread.

Not all Amex are charge cards, many Amex cards are in fact credit cards.

Yes, but the card in question was a regular Platinum card, which is not a credit card (even though it has credit features). I don't think anyone here has said AMEX doesn't offer traditional credit cards.

Received my credit today

AMEX Platinum Business Card

Filed my claim (by phone) Friday, September 7. The customer service rep read me the standard disclaimer language, but I asked her to file the claim anyhow.

No request for back-up documentation (Purchased from Apple Store on June 30)

Received claim "credit letter" by email today (Sept 17).

Credit letter included the following comments:

"Thank you for choosing to use your American Express Card for your purchases. Your recent claim with American Express does not fall within the normal terms and provisions of the Purchase Protection Plan. However, as we very much value and appreciate your Card membership with American Express, we have approved your claim as an exception to the program guidelines"

Did your online claim status say "Not received" under "Document(s) Last Received? I just noticed that column now. I guess I was always looking at Status column only. I was never asked to submit any documentation. I put in my claim on Sept 6th and it's still "pending".

Got my $200 credit tonight!

Hi everyone,

I had called AmEx to file a claim for the $200 credit under the Purchase Protection Plan on the day the credit was announced and hadn't heard anything in a while about it. On the claim website, the last activity was on 9/11 and it still shows the claim as "pending". FYI, I'm a Platinum cardmember.

I just logged in tonight to pay my bill, and I saw a $200 courtesy credit on my recent activity -- I didn't get the $210 as I hoped, but I'll take the $200! Anyone else get their credit recently?

-BOG

i filed the claim the first day and im a gold card member and it still says pending.

Just and FYI: I filed a claim early on the 8th. You can read my post in this thread about my experience. I just looked at my AMEX online statement and looks like I got a $214 credit yesterday. The credit is listed as "Goodwill CREDIT." I did not receive a phone call or email notice like some, so watch your online acct. This was for a standard personal Plat. ($450/year kind).

I have to give giant KUDOs to AMEX. I really did not expect this since they discontinued their price protection program last year (boo hoo). They stepped up when they didn't have to. Of course when they are charging $200+ for the privilege of just holding the card I guess they can afford it. I strongly believe that you get what you pay for and have never had any qualms about paying the AMEX annual fee b/c they always have your back. I've had dealings with Bank branded Visa cards that were pure hell. Ironically my annual fee comes up in Dec so AMEX will be getting it's $214 right back. Life is ironic.

My online status always said "not received" under documents. It also still said "pending" even after I received the email confirming the credit. Today the online status report shows the credit was given.

FWIW, I received $214: $200 price differential plus 7% sales tax.

Have any non-Platinum/Gold cardholders received their credit yet? In other words, have any AMEX credit card holders received a credit yet?

Mine is still pending...

Yes. I have a Starwood Preferred Guest card, and got my credit days ago.

Although, it may be worth mentioning that I run thousands through my AmEx cards each month, and pay in full.

I just received an email from Amex stating that I'm getting a $100 credit. I guess I can't complain but I wonder why some are getting $200 + tax.

Edit: I guess it's pretty obvious. Amex realized that Apple was giving $100 in store credit to early purchasers.

Larry, it really is being handled on a case-by-case basis. I called in my claim for two phones the day after the announced price cut and got a rep in the states who was well prepared to handle this. I'm a long-time Platinum member in excellent standing who has never used the lost, stolen or damage protection (or the price protection when it was available). I was told I would get the refund within 48 hours and I did, confirmed by email.

However, I got a phone message yesterday confirming that one of my credits went through. Since it didn't mention the other one, I phoned the price protection number. The first gal I got said something about how the Apple rebate was $100 so maybe that was why I received credit for $200 plus tx instead of $400 plus tax. I said I didn't want the Apple credit, I wanted what I was told I was getting, full $200 credit for each phone. She switched me to someone who knew more and he confirmed I had the credit on both phones. But what the first girl said made me think that AE was either rethinking this or that some customers were getting this kind of credit.

If you think about it, AE was smart to give the $200 back. Because they have the lost or stolen protection for 90 days, they did not want to have a lot of "lost" Iphones reported because of Apples huge and sudden price cut. Still, this cost them money and I appreciate that they did this. It did generate goodwill for both AE and Apple.:D

I called same day or maybe day after this info was posted and mine is still pending... I have the blue card...

Just checked my claim and I got $100 back. Not bad, Thanks AMEX. I have a AMEX Gold Card.

Anyway, I already spent the $100 dollar apple credit and $100 amex credit at apple and some. Picked up a gigabyte extreme base station and a refurbished apple tv.

I just received an e-mail from American Express with a letter attached indicating that I'll be getting a $100.00 credit. I think this is quite fair considering:

1. AMEX does not have a price protection program anymore.
2. Apple gave early iPhone purchasers a $100 store credit.

Just received a letter from AMEX stating that I'll be receiving $100 credit. I have Costco TrueEarnings card with no fees. I spend about 8000-10000/yr on the card and have been a AMEX card holder for 10+ years. I'm very happy and thankful for their generosity.

p.s. Don't leave home without it.

doboy: Curious as to when you submitted your claim? I also have the TE card and it's been pending since the 7th....glad to hear it went through for you though!

Just got my credit today for $107.00. Was hoping to get the full $200, but guess I can't complain, it is better then a lot of other people got.

$100 Credit here too and I have an AMEX Blue card. Honestly I was expecting the claim to get shot down since it didn't officially fall under the protection plan and I just have a Blue card instead of a fancy Gold or Plantinum card. AMEX Gets some high marks for this in any event.

I got a gold card and i called and it said i got 107$ but online still says pending. I also got store credit from apple. Im mad happy.
