I called Apple a few days ago and tried to change my order from shipping to store pickup as I wasn't expecting a 2-3 week timeframe (orders were 5-7 days then) when I placed my order, which ran right into my July 4th vacation.

After a long hold, the Apple rep came back and informed me once an order was set for shipping, it could not be changed for store pickup. So I had the address changed to a family member that would be present for delivery.

After we did all that, she apologized for the inconvenience and being unable to change my order to store pickup. I told her I understood and explained that it was more on me, than Apple. That is when she told me that for my "troubles", she would refund the $79.99 for the additional charger and $9.99 for the adapter.

I didn't know what to say......Apple did not have to do anything for me. But they did. I thanked the rep and said that was not necessary. She didn't back down.....and then offered me 50% off if there was an accessory I was eyeballing. From reading this thread, it seemed she implied the superdrive, but I wasn't even thinking about that as I had no interested.

So I was like......tell me more about the Time Capsule. I now have a 3TB TC on the way.

I was sort of in shock after the phone call. I just wanted to change shipping, for an oversight that was on me really, and got a lot more in return.

I just got off the phone with Apple UK. Basically it's a no go. I checked for an update on my delivery, asked if it could be sped up, they said no. Said I was interested in a Superdrive, I asked if it would work with Bootcamp, I was put on hold for ages, he said yes (i knew this already). He didn't even try to sell me one. I then broached the topic of my 'friend' getting one free. The words were 'That's something we don't do. That's something we never do'.

So I guess that as usual, here in the UK, our customer service is not on par with theirs over the pond.

Apple UK, you didn't need to go any further, Apple dont need to do anything in these cases, however when they do it absolutely cements brand loyalty and you will always find Apple US in the lead.
 
Just got the superdrive as well :D

First asked for update on shipping, nothing.
Then asked for refund on expedited shipping, check, still no mention of a superdrive.
Then I said I heard afew people got a superdrive I was wondering if there is any chance..... The guy said he hasn't heard of this but he would check... After checking he gave me one. Great service.
 
Why don't yall ask for the thunderbolt adapters? Say you want te ethernet and firewire ones.
 
Who is everyone talking to? I got straight up ignored when I called to check the status of my order and said no one was getting super drives

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't envious of all of you managing to get these great freebies from the US sales support teams! I think I'll have to call the UK store again and ask if their policies are intentionally different to those of their US counterparts. Makes me wonder if this is a company initiative or one for country-specific sales teams...
 
I asked at the UK Birmingham bullring store and they told me no.

I even showed them this thread and they said that a rumors website..lolz.. and they cant validate it...

I got jack **** from this ungrateful company. 2-4 weeks estimated shipping time. I ordered it on the 11th, 3 hours after the store went online and I still don't have it. Although they did ship it yesterday.

I got zilch and they didn't even offer me anything. I am so pissed off right now

Why....? They told you 2-4 weeks. You got it shipped and will have it within that 2-4 weeks? No reason to be mad. You're getting what you paid for. So some people got lucky and got a free thing, so what? It sounds like most people here were asking for free stuff anyway, not being offered it.

Actually, I didn't ask for it or call with that intention. The sales rep simply asked, seeming out of the blue, if there was any Apple item I wanted.

My suspicion is that the most likely qualifying criteria include the cost of the original order and the order date - like I stated before, my computer was the 2.7/16/512 model with warranty package.

You ordered a computer and they said it would ship in 2-4 weeks. They shipped you a computer within 2-4 weeks.

I don't see where your complaint is here.

I called the UK Apple Store - my estimated shipping date pushes into August.

I received an update on my order and suggestions that my BTO rMBP might ship sooner than the expected delivery date but nothing more. I asked about any gestures of goodwill as I had heard that people were receiving them but the advisor I spoke to hadn't heard of anything being offered for free.

Then I called the US Apple Store. After having a similar conversation the advisor was prepared to offer me a SuperDrive since my estimated shipping date was pushing into August but, since I purchased through the UK Apple Store there was nothing she could do other than advise me to call the UK Apple Customer Support.

Fair enough.

haha i really hope this is sarcasm.

I'm gonna give apple a call in alittle while and see if they give me anyting.
 
hey guys, to those who had obtained something, what did you ask the apple rep?
did you guys just ask about the delivery status and ask if there were any way to speed up the process? and start asking about the accessories??
