Apple are never, ever, going to release a product called "iTV" because there's a huge media producing company already called that, who have already legally mandated Apple not to use that name. So any source that uses the name "iTV" is immediately suspect, and their 'leaks' taken with extreme caution.

In corporate terms this is sometimes known as leak or curved ball marketing ploy to distract your competitors. So worth publishing none the less.

If I could work at Apple I think I'd have a lot of fun sitting down and inventing wacky product "rumors" which I could intentionally allow to leak to analysts and shady employees. It would help track down exactly who in the organization the leaks are coming from, and divide the attention of competitors as they scramble to announce product plans to match.

Samsung: "We are pleased to announce a new ring-controlled TV! We will be first to market this revolutionary new device!"
Apple: "Haha, April Fools! Just kidding guys! A ring is a stupid idea!"
Samsung: "Uhh.... we knew that! Haha! We think it's a stupid idea too! Only joking!" (dang, we just wasted millions of dollars of engineering resources...)

Didn't Samsung have smart phones too, prior to Apple's 2007 introduction to the smartphone market?

You assert Samsung isn't copying Apple... Who's living the dream again?!

Are you just reading my comments? Or the silly ones I've responded to?

I never said Samsung isn't copying Apple. I was stating that Samsung already has something similar.

And since this TV is fictitious - they can't be copying anything anyway. I live my life in the real world. Not some fantasy one that doesn't exist yet. But that's my choice.

Clearly you can't be bothered to read the entire thread and/or a few posts above yours.

Well, that makes me mostly an original poster. Anyway, I did read your reply for the Samsung-copying debate and I disagree. Samsung started to copy Apple since Steve Job's biography and maybe Steve copied old smart tvs, trying to improve the experience, as usual.
But now Samsung knows a lot of better ideas, so everyone is copying everyone, but in the end, Samsung will be the last one to copy the best implementation.

That didn't stop Apple from using iPhone when Cisco owned the trademark. Or iOS. They later resolved licensing terms. There's always enough money to resolve these issues.

I'm not saying that the name will be iTV, but to say "never" ignores history.

60" is a bit too small for most living rooms. But it is Apple so they'll try to do a one size fits all TV, in which case 60" is a good average size.

On what planet do you live where 60" is small for most living rooms?

I think it was about this time last year that "analysts" were predicting a late-2012 Apple Television release. And the iRing sounds absurd, IMO.

But hey, now this analyst has his name plastered all over the news so mission accomplished.

Im sorry but I am not interested in an Apple TV, especially one with a iRing  I already have 3 flat screen TV's in my home, 50" 45" and 32". If I buy anything next it will be a project for a Home Theater. Apple needs to focus on their Apple TV product which can work with any TV seeing as the majority of people already have one and are unlikely to buy another just because its from Apple, the cost is so prohibitive, it would likely cost well over 3000 dollars, not sure where this analyst got a price of 1500 as a low end for a 60" tv... unless its a crap screen made by westinghouse of something.

Someone gave me a 12-core 2012 Mac Pro as a gift. I was a pragmatic ******* and returned it to wait for what I presume is around the corner.

Good move. That MacPro was released in 2010. They made an insignificant adjustment to a spec and called it 2012. But it's 3 year old tech.

Blah blah blah

After 10,000 unsubstantiated "analyst predictions" falling all over the map of relevancy, I don't even see the point in reading these anymore. ...or posting them. ...or paying attention to people who write them. ...or writing them. ...or paying people to write them. What's the point anymore?

Possible. But it will never be called iTV. Fact.

Plus there would then be an Apple TV and an iTV, which would be really confusing. And Apple doesn't make little accessories with the "i" in front of the name, so the iRing sounds unlikely. Will this work with the WiiMote for pointing?

PRO ANALYST PREDICTION Y'ALL: Apple will call it the iTheater.

Actually apple already asked ITV about using the phrase before they brought out Apple TV. ITV said no so that's why it's called Apple TV. Given ITV is a TV channel it would be even more confusing to use the name. There is no way on earth it's going to be called ITV, history proves that.

They could buy iTV, gaining both the name and a media source. But why would Apple call anything the "iTV" when the name sounds really bad and causes confusion with the Apple TV?

What about the iPhone? That is subsidised by the phone companies.

Yes, fact is its _Heavily_ subsidized as compared to other smartphones of today.

For the uniniated, the iPhone at $199 thru AT&T with all the advertising they've done for years, has gone a long ways to get people to forget about the very substantial Apple Premium pricing of the years prior.
