This game's amazing. PS3 owners are really in for a treat if they make some more games with this engine, and I think I heard someplace that's the plan.

Although, I think Uncharted was my favorite PS3 game thus far so I'm especially looking forward to the sequel...

where's the story? resistance had a GREAT story. so far theres been no narrative really
Haven't played Resistance 2 yet, but I didn't think the story in Resistance 1 was anything amazing. Aliens are trying to take over the world. I need to stop them. That was the story, in a nutshell. There weren't any twists if I remember correctly. To be fair, I'm not saying KZ2's story is that amazing, but it's basically the same thing...

Personally I think that Resistance's and Killzone's story were on the same level. I mean as far as shooters these days go, everything that happens is to be expected.

KZ2's story wasnt bad, it just wasnt very deep and thats ok as far as im concerned.

The story goes like this (no spoilers):

You are assigned to arrest Visari, leader of the Helghast.
On the way you find that the Helghast are using several large electricity-based weapons.
Side mission: Find out what powers these weapons and destroy it.
With that out of the way you march into Visari's palace and arrest him, fighting the zealous Col. Radec and his troops along the way.

End story.

Remember the last game that had a huge story? Halo had a decent story that was intricate and interesting but sadly suffered from god-awful story telling. Leave stories to RPG's and leave the action to fps's. Drakes Fortune seems to balance both incredibly well though. Naughty Dog has alwyas been a great developer.

On a small side track, what are the best PS3 exclusives? All I have is Resistance and Warhawk (Killzone 2 as well obviously). Any favs?

Little Big Planet
MGS4
Uncharted Drakes Fortune
Resistance 2
Ratchet N Clank

Back on track: I've played three stages of SP so I can't comment on it besides saying thats FREAKING HARD! but I've delve head first into multiplayer and let me just say its very addictive and a blast.

This game is very beautiful indeed, and whilst I really do admire it's technical fortitude - the actual gameplay itself in single player is just the same old same old. Takeaway the wonderful gloss and there isn't much under the covers.

Still i'm enjoying it more than F.E.A.R 2 anyway.

That's the impression I got from the demo. Technically really impressive, but really nothing new. I'm gonna pass on it. Too many other games to play right now.

Its the first FPS to have a workable cover system, the controls make Sev feel like he has weight and his gun is actually metal instead of paper, and the environment works perfectly with the gameplay. In the end there really isnt much you can change in a FPS anyway, but i think Guerilla got it right. Half-Life 2 is the only FPS to offer *good* yet different gameplay (we wont talk about timesplitters), but it is still just Gordon holding a gun with the occasional puzzle so Valve can show off their physics engine.

You think the cover system works that well? I'm still undecided. I've only had a couple hours to play, but so far I'm not super impressed. I'm not disappointed either, but it doesn't seem "great." It works well behind a ledge or something that you need to look over. But if you're at a doorway and want to take cover to the left / right, it's sometimes hard to see if my cover "sticks" if that makes sense. Like moving the trigger to lean left, I sometimes end up having my character just walk left...

Yeah, I actually didn't like the cover system. The Gears of War system is still the best and RS:Vegas is pretty good about it too. I ended up not using cover all that often because I could still be shot up by the baddies pretty good either way.

The Gears cover system is really good. I actually think GTA IV's is the best though, even better than Gear's. Uncharted's isn't too bad, but it's worse than both Gears and GTA. I'm hoping Uncharted 2 has an even better one.

Keep in mind everything I just compared KZ2's cover system to is a 3rd person game.

Cover systems in a FPS are really tricky, so i am completely impressed by how they did it.
I am not terribly impressed with the Gears cover system. It didnt feel like anything revolutionary for a 3rd person game. Sure it worked, and it worked well, but it didnt deserve the amount of praise it got. I suppose MS needed something to over-hype while they were waiting for the Halo hype-machine to be finished.

Creating a cover system is much easier in third person games than in FPS'es. I think that we should compare Killzone with other FPS and not 3rd person shooters. I believe that the cover system in Killzone 2 is really good and achieves its purpose.

I have finished the game and these are my impressions.

The good:
--Great graphics. Immersive artwork.
--Realistic gameplay. Fair, too. Enemies are as hostile to you as for friendly NPCs.
--Immersive camera movement.
--Good cover system.
--Really great multiplayer Component. deep, actually makes you want to progress even further.

The bad:
--Short single player campaign. But you are going to play it again. I am going to.
--Gameplay is too fair, sometimes. Controls are sometimes unresponsive (to make the gun feel heavy) and that could annoy some players. Zooming and shooting at the same time can be a little disorienting due to camera movement.
--Why the heck couldn't they let me change the controls to something other than the default presets?
--Multiplayer could have some minor but necessary improvements:
-----a)In the list with the available servers, I think it's necessary to have something to show you the rules of the game (round time, frag limit, lag, etc).
-----b) It is really difficult to level up.
-----c) I noticed there is a bug in the menu where you select the type of game you want to join, regarding the "Use only selected map" and "Use only selected gametype" options. But that's a minor bug. I think it will be fixed, and it hasn't annoyed me much.
-----D) Every map forces you to respawn at your base. You must run all the way to your previews location to find some action again.

Overall, I think it's a great game. The only thing I can compare it with on the PS3 is Resistance 2, which is also a great game. However, I feel that Killzone gives more attention to detail and has better sound than Resistance. I have both games, and I haven't regret buying either of them.

You know what would be cool for a cover system? An FPS and then when you cover, it pulls back into 3rd person.

How would you shoot? The game would turn into a third person shooter for a moment? haha

I argued that gears of war did this with my buddy for a few minutes one time before I realized that the entire game was actually third person (hadn't played in a while)

I'm stuck on the last level, I'm in the palace but I get shot down by the wave of MG shooting Helghasts

Yeah that was bullcrap, took me multiple times. Good thing there is an auto-save right after that wave. Grab the grenade launcher and shoot from one of the sides using the pillar for cover. if you stand in the middle, there is almost no way to avoid been blown to hell.

Are you telling a really funny joke? :p I couldn't tell. There are tons of shooters that do that.

And as for cover systems, Killzone 2's system served it's purpose. I still think Uncharted did it really well. Gears, IMHO remember, was just above a "meh" for me. I kept slapping into cover when all I wanted to do was run to where I needed to go.

That's true. I can't tell you how many times I went into cover trying to run across the map in gears lol

Half of the "bad" things i think are good, lol. I numbered them to make it easier.

1) I agree, but compared to most other games out now the campaign is average in length. Most devs are shortening the single player and claming that the multi makes up for it. They are wrong, nothing makes up for a good single player experience.

2) I love the controls. This isnt COD where you can headshot 10 guys in 5 seconds, this is more realistic. The disorienting camera movement is kinda the same thing, its meant to be disorienting, just like a real gunfight would be.

3) What other games do this? They offer a decent number of options, so they get credit for that. I dont see any other game offering completely customizable controls, though i may have missed them somewhere.

4) havent played online yet :p I do think the respawning is a good idea. They essentially punish you when you die. If you die why should you respawn in the middle of the battle field? That doesnt make sense, other games have just been doing it for so long we expect it to be universal.

All cover systems, whether it's Gears GTA or Killzone, have some issue. I think Killzone's is pretty decent. I like it, but I think not having it in multiplayer was a good idea.

Side note.... Just started playing online again now that I beat it. I unlocked the medic class :D.

A few comments. Tons of games have crazy stat requirements for leveling so it isn't that different. There aren't that many ranks too, so they had to make it a little challenging. And not every map makes you respawn at your base, in some game modes you can respawn at controlled areas on the map. One thing that does annoy me... no mute all button. Sometimes I just don't want to listen to little kids screaming, annoying music, or crazy loud tv speakers.

^Thats all...you suck just as much as sikkinixx, MRU and eStudios:p
I've unlocked the Med, Engineer, Assault & Tactician(this guy is your mobile spawn point soulstorm) and I'm doing pretty good online.

I'll have to get back into SP soon but multiplayer is what I got this game for and I'm not disappointed..I can play this game for hours on end.

Note: SK I'm playing on the hardest setting:cool::p
