The truth is I was kind of disappointed with the game. The graphics are great and all, although not THAT much better than COD4 for example. Apart from that though it was hard for me to get used to the the weighted feel of the controls. The story of the game was a let down I think, way to linear and the same stuff repeating itself over and over again.
I enjoyed the story of COD4 a lot more in retrospect. That is not to say that KZ2 is a bad game, far from it. But I think it is behind COD4 in single and multiplayer.
Multiplayer in KZ2 has so many annoyances I put it down after 10 hours and I don't feel like putting it in again, which is the total contrast to COD4, which I couldn't put down and always went back to when finishing another game like Fallout3 or Metal Gear Solid 4.

Just my 2 cents though, your mileage may vary.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I will say that KZ2 looks a lot better than COD4. But again, that's my personal opinion.

And as for the control issue, I'm glad you didn't freak out about it. It seems on other sites that people spend more time talking about games than actually playing them. I will only back something up if the community is worth coming back to. And around 2007 the Killzone community was very welcoming.

I made a slight change to your post, as well i highlighted a pretty good point. I find it especially amusing when people complain about control or the game yet they don't own it. Of course they played it at their cousins, friends, <insert name here>'s house but they don't actually own the game nor have they spent much time with it.

Having played COD4 and KZ2 I can say the game play is better with KZ2 and the graphics are just night and day different, KZ2 blows away COD when it comes to visuals as well as audio. I will suggest the other poster check the calibration on their TV, saying COD looks better than KZ2 is either inciting a flame fest or they are just playing it on a lackluster media setup. the difference is highly noticeable.

The controls weren't that bad, they needed some adjusting and in multi-player I really prefer the COD4 controls as I think they blow everything out of the water especially in layout but that's just me. But they definitely didn't break the game.
I enjoyed the game don't get me wrong but there were parts I wished that were better like the story and the linear feel of the levels for example.

Maybe I'll try multi-player again some time but for me the biggest problem in KZ2 is that I can't turn games. If my team sucks I'll lose. In COD4 at least I could pull everyone with me and win the game alone if needed.

I have a 1080p 42" Sharp Aquos, which really does a good job and I never said that COD4 had better graphics, I just think the difference isn't as huge as people make it out to be but again that's just my opinion.
And again I think the game has certain shortcomings over COD4 that just make it less enjoyable in the long run for me.That's not to say though that I didn't enjoy it while I played it.

Well IMHO both KZ2 and COD4 are great shooters. Each did their own thing, and some people will like it, some people won't. KZ2 just so happens to be where I got my fix. :)

The last FPS I played before KZ2 was COD:4. I loved COD, completed the single-player twice and got to level 55 in multiplayer. I haven't played it in a long time and was getting antsy for a new FPS so I got KZ2. It took me a couple levels to get used to the "weight" of the controls and the overall feel, but now I really like it. It reminds me a ton of Gears of War (similar style of enemy patterns, has a train level, two-person team tactics, etc.). I'm very happy with it and look forward to diving into the multiplayer once I am done the campaign.

...has a train level...

Too bad the train level in Gears looks like a ps2 game compared to KZ2's. In KZ2 the wind will blow your grenades and rockets off course, there is good blur effects on the environment, the sheets covering the equipment blow int he wind like actual sheets... Its incredibly impressive, too bad you never have enough time to stand around and look at it.

All opinion of course ;)

Yes I played both Gears (1&2), COD4, and all the Killzone games, and I have to say, I like them all in certain ways. I don't understand why I am required to pick a side and defend it.

One thing I dislike about KZ2 so far is the fact that if you want to be rewarded for playing online, you have to play LOTS. I want to be able to play an hour a day and still get new guns etc. Looks like I need to put in days of work :p

Its not my opinion that grenades get blown by the wind, it actually happens. Its not my opinion that sheets look like actual sheets, its a fact.

I dont care if i step on someones toes, the train level in KZ2 is created better than the train in Gears. Granted, theres a 2 year span between the release of the games, but there is a night and day difference. Im basing this on the pc version of Gears too, which i assume is much better (graphically speaking) than the 360 version.

i've put just over three hours into the online, and I've almost unlocked the Medic (Master Sargeant), which means I have the two rifles and the shotgun unlocked. I'm finding it fun without all the guns available, as it means you don't get sniped from across the map!

Yeah, I'm a little bit away from the Medic. I put in just over 2.5 hours so far. I love playing online, I just wish I had more time to blow on it :p

It's simple: You can't be a true fanboy if you don't pick a side.

...and being a fanboy/fangirl is a requirement for posting in the Console Games forum on MacRumors. It's in the rules...go ahead and read it. You don't want to get banned, do you? ;)

Let me just say, Killzone 2 is awesome! That's simply a raw feeling that I get about the game. I can't speak about COD4 since I've never played it.

Go play COD4, Antares. Its a great shooter, though a bit annoying at times with its 'invisible checkpoints.' Its still the best shooter of '07 by far.

:D I see how it is. ;)

So be it! Killzone 2 is amazing and I will play it till the day I die! :p

I think its a fairly safe bet that won't change, unless some cunning developer manages to bend the laws of time....... :)
What i meant by that was that it has flaws, but is still the best regardless of said flaws.
:p
Im working on that time machine though...

I just beat Killzone 2!!! Man that last battle was a RUSH! So fun :D. Commentary on the ending below... (SPOILER ALERT)
Rico sucks. I can't believe he shot Visari in the end. Visari was a pretty cool villain. Would have been neat to have him in jail or something and then in KZ3, have him get broken out of jail and then have the story pick up from there. Now that being said, I thought it was a great game with a great ending. I don't think even the Call of Duty games portray that awesome sense of environmental chaos that KZ2 does. The world really feels alive.

It's funny - I wanted to get through the single player game - so I haven't even tried multiplayer! Time to try that out now

Im halfway through the last battle on the hardest setting. It took me about an hour to get to the checkpoint when they open the doors to go up on the balcony. I found that its kinda easy to use the grenade launcher to thin out the waves of soldiers and pick the rest off with the sniper rifle. It works great until someone sneaks by and runs up the steps. I never have enough time to grab an smg to take care of them.

Yeah they really make it tough by having the guys occasionally sneak up the sides. For me I felt it to be most difficult when the RPGs started hitting - they come at such a high frequency. Need to grab that sniper rifle and knock off those guys very quickly.
