The video looks flipping amazing if you ask me, also they use a black persons finger which gets two thumbs up from me!

What, like a smartphone ( iphone) that isn't capable of multi-tasking ( without hacking it ) .. thats not 5 years in the future, its five years behind!

Are you talking about a smart PHONE or a netbook? Multitasking? Why? It's a PHONE! If you have that much to do, use your computer!

Quite simple, really. Don't buy one if you don't like the terms/limitations. It's not like any of that is a secret.

I don't quite understand the sense of self-entitlement of "I want an iPhone/iPod, but I want to do all this stuff it doesn't. If it doesn't do it, I'm going to complain about it".

What's wrong with buying a different product? It's not like there's a shortage of competent devices out there.

You can always send feedback to Apple if you think the iPhone is missing any vital features.

And don't say it's a waste of time as we ended up getting Copy & Paste, MMS and video recording added in the last iPhone update.

Very true in regards to the feedback form; however on your latter point I do not believe it was a result of complaining about it on a non-Apple website. ;)

The iPhone is sexy. The iPhone OS is sexy.

Android is not sexy. Not a single hardware offering is sexy. It's quite boring really.

I've spent a lot of time with the HTC Hero and the T-Mobile G1. I was bored in under an hour. The app store isn't fun. The web browser isn't fun. Just goofing off around the phone isn't fun. Customization? Wow, I got to change what kind of clock is displayed on the main screen and got to set a different wallpaper in the background. Who cares? It's fun for awhile. You're most likely going to keep this phone for 20+ months until you're eligible for an upgrade again. That's a long time.

The Motorola Droid will be a huge opening week launch for Verizon, mark my words. If there is a phone company out there that knows how to market a phone and build hype, it's Verizon. That piece of crap Blackberry Storm sold a ridiculous amount of units in the first two weeks. But once it sets in, once people realize what the phone is really about, it'll wear off.

People will still be asking for the iPhone. Guaranteed.

Do you REALLY think Verizon is any better than AT&T?

A smartphone IS A computer! Hell, smartphones can emulate other computers / consoles! ( Even that iPhone can manage that one! C64)

I've found multi-tasking to be extremely useful.. for example, running an IM client along with some other application. So, to be able to talk to some one and doing other things as well.

Or, the ability to run a system utility in the background , i.e., for example, an app that will switch profiles at a given time, or turn Bluetooth on or off on a schedule.

To lug a computer around isn't always feasible or convenient!

"Why would you want to multi-task?" I bet your same comment was made when such functionality became possible on home computers.

AT&T isn't killing anything. First of all because it's US-only, and the rest of the world loves the iphone too. And second because iphones are still selling better than hotcakes. I'm sure they'd sell more if they were available on more networks, but claiming *anything* is "killing" the iphone is demonstrably not true.

You would think they would at least attempt to put a nice GUI in their demo videos... wow that looks god awful.

Smartphones have been multitasking for years. Why should they stop now?

Exactly so has iPhone. A lot of native program that make sense to run in the background do.

And by the time you swipe across ultra-slow WebOs Palm screen, iPhone can open an app. Both take exact same amount of time.

iPhone can multitask. Every listen to music in the iPod app while checking email or playing a game. Its just Apple picks which apps can multitask and which ones can't. I have feeling that will change in OS 4.0 at lease with the new hardware that will come out next year.

When hasn't Apple invented and innovated products?

As far as I know if not Apple, y'all still be bushing buttons on plastic RAZR phones.

LOL.

Comments like these - "if it wasn't for Apple, you still be...."

Remind me of what someone said - and I laughed then -
"If it wasn't for microsoft you wouldn't be using a computer now"...

I responded:
"Yes, I would, because if it wasn't microsoft, it would be someone else"...

I know it is, at lease in Illinois. I've had both, and Verizon's coverage is much better here, as is the call quality and reliability. Sure, some of that comes down to the phone, however having used multiple devices on both networks, it's still a pretty clear choice for me. AT&T sucks, IMO.

And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in thinking that.

Fair enough, but its still lame... Apple controls too much.

Users should be able to multi-task any app.. its either an artificial limitation imposed by Apple or OSX mobile isn't up to the job.

5 years in the past.

Perhaps you didn't notice all the smartphones that proceeded the iPhone, but they did (and do) exist.

iPhone can multitask. Ever listen to music in the iPod app while checking email or playing a game.

Yes I did, but guess what, the other day I listened to music streaming from last.fm whilst using google maps the other day in my car. Could you do that with the iPhone?

Multitiasking should be across the board.

Well on my phone I choose what I multitask, not Google, Apple or anyone else for that matter.

I suppose once this happens Multitasking will be an innovation ah?

Yup

People say here that multi-tasking sucks battery power and its not a good thing ( then why do they use 3G for just phone calls, or play games which suck even more power! )

When Apple introduce multi-tasking these same people will be praising Apple's glories.... "wow, the iPhone, the first phone that can multi-task!"

Just like the other day, some one was claiming that Apple invented the smartphone on these boards....

Of course it sucks...it's an uneventful release and an irrelevant attempt at Apple's technological leadership.

ANDROID IS DEAD. GOOGLE IS DEAD. MS IS DEAD.

You always end your initial posts with (insert product/business here) IS DEAD.

What's up with that?

I've never seen a situation where competition is a bad thing. Well, except when I'm at the bar and both me and some other dude have our eyes on the same girl. Never mind. I digress.

Android 2.0 looks like it's coming along nicely. Certainly not a reason for me to swap my iPhone for a Droid but it seems to have some nice features.

I don't think people will say that Apple was the innovator if and when it provides for multi-tasking on the iPhone. I do, however, think most 'peeps will say they do it better. *That* is what defines Apple as a company.

IMHO, I don't see multi-tasking as that important of a feature and I use my iPhone throughout the day for both work and pleasure. I'll take it a step further. I've Jailbroken (is that a word now?) my iPhone and find that I seldom if ever multi-task even though I can do so.

Is the icon they use with the section titles an eclair? Why?

Yea, I kept asking myself the same thing....what the hell is that? I see the android/robot thing, but what the check is that in front of it? Looks like an eclair to me too

*EDIT* So it was actually an eclair, but I just couldn't believe they'd use such a random, irrelevant, and bland name and object for their software and logo.
