Only in an Apple forum do fanboys take things so seriously, get so bent out of shape, and hurl the word troll around.

It's only a news item folks... :)

You've obviously never been to Engadget. Every positive Apple/iPhone comment even something as little as "The iPhone 4 is cool" gets down ranked to oblivion by all the Fandroids.

And iOS smartphones vs Android smartphones = Android more sales. This whole news story is about how Android based smartphones have now surpassed iOS based smartphones. Is that really so difficult to grasp?

It's not difficult to grasp but it is difficult to understand how this could be spun as Apple losing anything. They choose to control which hardware their OS is available on, in the interest of offering a better experience than other hardware and software companies.

Even if Android reaches 80% marketshare in smart phones, Apple is still just fine. Just as with Macs and PCs, it's not only about overall marketshare in the end.

I view Engadget daily along with many other sites, for a quick read. I never linger long enough to read comments as I simply don't care.

Why are you on an iPhone forum when you're clearly bias towards Android? Go talk about your mark share victory on the Android forums. Here, you have the coolest and most popular phone because your market share is bigger. Happy?

Unfortunately, you've exposed your true colours here. You don't like the facts that have been stated (and that I have reitterated), so you try to belittle and discredit me. Sadly, it's not going to work, because I don't own a single Android device; I am in fact an iPhone 4 owner. However, unlike some, I am an iPhone 4 owner who is perfectly capable of accepting that Android based smartphones now outsell iOS based smartphones. There's absolutely no point trying to deny it, or fiddle the figures so that it says something else, because that's just the cold, hard reality of it.

I couldn't care less what Android's market share looks like. As I've said many times now, when comparing the iPhone to any other phone it clearly wins. I understand how market share works and why it's iOS smartphones vs Android smartphones, I just don't think it paints a clear picture when you're comparing 30 phones to 1 (even though it's OS vs OS blah, blah, blah). And my true colors? Get off your high horse. Oops, was that my true colors again.

This is a great analogy. Very accurate too.

iPhone has become the "Ford of Smartphones".

iPhones are now a dime a dozen, seen everywhere, they've lost their exclusivity and are approaching a commodity item. WalMarts sell them, and every Joe Blow has one.

No its not.. cause apple shoulda made it so apple has all the android features.. but no.. they wanna be dumb

How can Android outsell something? It's free. That's like saying "walking outsells bicycles".

You're entitled to your opinion, but if the purpose of the study is to find out how many smartphones there are with each different type of OS, then grouping 30 devices together that all have the same OS is how you do this. The picture would not be clear if all you showed where iPhone and Droid X numbers; what about all of the other Android smartphones that equally count towards the market share figure? Like I said, if you want to compare the iPhone to any one particular device, do so in a seperate thread; this thread is about smartphone OS market share.

well said.... and don't forget iphones are full of problems now to, they can't even get a freaking signal sensor right. faulty screens, etc etc etc. junk

Also, how can you say Android is outselling iPhone when many of these Android phones have been given away via 2-for-1? That's GIVING it away. If you have to give something away in order for it to be popular, but people aren't willing to pay for it, well then my friend we have a problem. If you have such a great product, why do you essentially have to pay someone (give away a product) to use it? Sounds a little sad and desperate to me.

No one is giving away anything. Giving away means free, and if you think you got a "free" phone then you just got suckered by the marketing.

This is something that you created. Don't go to a Yankees sports bar to cheer for the Red Sox.

To top it off, you and your story are both wrong. Read what everyone is trying to tell you. It's like saying:

Toyota (a car maker with many models) outsells Honda Accord (a specific car model).

If you don't like the car analogy, here's another one:

Windows 7 (an OS sold by many manufacturers) outsells the 27" iMac (one hardware model by one manufacturer).

It's stupid and makes no sense. If you don't understand by now, I don't know what else to say.

I honestly don't care who sells more, but seeing ridiculous comparisons tends to make me react.

Personally, I don't see myself owning any Android model at the moment. There's a huge difference in quality versus the iPhone. A friend of mine was showing me his Droid X and as soon as I held it in my hand I had to give it back to him. It felt so cheap. The only valid argument to me is the iPhone being on at&t only.

Anyone who says that Android wasn't greatly influenced by iOS has their head buried in the sand.

Seriously, who cares that there are more Android phones then iPhones? The real question is which of those phones comes even close to competing with iPhone 4. None.

Android must be really popular in the US because I have only ever seen around 25 androids in public in the UK

So how would you show smartphone OS market share then?

So how would you show smartphone OS market share then?

It fine to show marketshare that way, but it doesn't mean as much as people think. Profits are far more important in the long run for any of the companies involved. I'd imagine that if you showed the profits made on each smartphone, you'd see something completely different. Android gaining more marketshare than iOS is just not that exciting when you factor in everything beyond units sold. The business models are not closely aligned, and really not comparable.

Agreed, it doesn't really show much. All it does show is that Android based smartphones are more popular than iPhones, for a whole multitude of reasons.

wow 3 post for some one to make that argument.

Before Android took off it was screamed by people like you how iOS was out selling Android and how it was better blah blah blah.

Now you have to start scratching for a reason. What this proves is clearly Android is popular and clearly that even with iPhone on all carriers in most of the world Android still out sells it.

LMAO. Android carriers do buy one get one free thousands of times a day. Lets check their cash reserves.
Totally meaningless numbers. ;)

kia outsells bentleys but that doesn't mean crap

android is on what 3 or 4 different carriers...if they didn't out sell apple then something would be wrong

Well the whole point of data is to see what is more popular.

This data does not signify androids are more popular or better reviewed. iPhone is.

So in conclusion, iPhone is still on top and these figures don't change that nor anything.

There's only 2 groups, people who enjoy the iPhones beauty and people who make anti-iPhone choices as statements. Their very position is one of counterculture which is ironic. But it's all iPhones world. They are just side effects of it's popularity.

The contempt for Apple is parralel to the contempt haters have for society, themselves, and the confusion bred in their minds.

The very comparison of the iOS vs it's cheap clone is an indicator of who is on top.

So why even try to act like this sales figure which doesn't take into count the new ip4 release matters?
